Quoted from PeterG:

ok, mine is also showing that behaviour. Will that eventually result in gassing out?

That is my understanding of it, yes. I planned on keeping the game and routing. But plan is most likely changing so I am selling, which means the best solution for a display is stock.

Quoted from Chalkey:

I have one from my color dmd replacement. Whatever a used one goes for -10% shipped? I have no idea what it's worth. Make me an offer I guess. Or someone under cut me at 11%.

Thanks! I’ve had some people pm me so I need to figure out what the average used price is. And then get this sorted

Hi all. Just joined the club, picked up a nice example with color dmd included!
My question to the group is what the differences are with Chad’s Code and where do I get the ROMs?

Contact Meloyelo51 at Matts Basement Arcade. He can burn the proper ROM for you... that’s where I got mine and works perfectly. I see he does international shipping as well.

Honestly, the differences are game changing, (for the good) and if your not using Chads code you're in the dark ages!!

chad's code is a must. Best $20 upgrade you can do on this pin.

Will it say 4.01 when I load it or is it best to check my Roma on the board? I don’t know if I have them but I’ll buy them for sure

It will show the code version when you boot the game.

Now that I’ve been testing my Baywatch, the skill shot for the side flipper doesn’t go all the way around to the kicker and lands in the pops. Am I safe to assume a stronger coil is needed? Any other tips here?

Have you tried reflowing the solder, cleaning/replacing the coilbushing, and make shure the position of coil and brackets is still good and tightened.

Will try this things thanks!

#3167 4 years ago

Chad's code helps keep the upper gate open longer for that skill shot. Also check your upper gate to make sure it's fully opening for skill shots, I've seen the wire get bent under the plastic more than once. Also pitch of the machine plays a big part in the success of that skill shot. May want to check both your shooter coil and mess with the pitch of your machine as well as making sure your shooter rod is hitting the ball directly in the center not off centered.

-the guy without a baywatch-

#3168 4 years ago

The alignment of the shooter coil was the biggest factor. Cleaning the wireform was also helpful. IIRC there is a bit of an up/down adjustment you can do with the exit of the wireform as well.

#3169 4 years ago

If you have a celephone with slow motion video, try capturing on video. I suspect the wire ramp is too far towRds the flippers. Lossen the locknut and push the wire ramp as far back as it can go.

#3170 4 years ago

I noticed when the ball would drop from the ramp, it would bounce, hit the gate and go back into the pops.

#3171 4 years ago

Mine isn’t making it that far. The plunger also has a bit of play inside the sleeve, is that normal for this title?

Don't get a bigger coil before you have fully rebuild the stock set up and adjusted the alignment.

This. Treat the cause not the symptom.

#3174 4 years ago

Thanks for the responses, I’ll certainly do all the adjustments upon putting back together.
Lastly, does anyone have a spare of this plastic?

So sorry to hear about that and I wish I had a solution for you. But until you find a new subway, I believe you can disable the trap door and keep playing!

Finally in the club! Why isn't this pin in the top 50 on pinside? Such fun to play.

Because of the theme...If this were something with more machismo, or comedy, it would be a top 50 for sure.

And that particular example is nice; I thought about grabbing that one, swapping the colordmd/blades/various other things into mine, then selling it with the non-blingy parts, but the 10 hour round trip sort of killed it, haha.

It really is a great game once you get it tuned/leveled perfectly.

Because it's a Sega. If it said Williams on the side pinside would be drooling all over it.

I agree. I've owned and played the hell out of a wide variety of machines and definitely love me some Baywatch. Just a lot of different shots, tons of ramps, and some pretty fun flow. I just keep coming back to it and just don't see it leaving my collection. The addition of the large ColorDMD was great! Also added the enerGI maestro board to control the flasher blinking and to eliminate the annoying clicking from the relay.

Hey all! Happy New Year!

I have a question about pins in general, but I have a Baywatch pin I'm repairing thanks to alkaline fogging my main board and display board.

If there isn't a 6802P microprocessor installed can you pretty much expect a lot of things not to work? Upon replacing the DMD and main board yesterday, I accidentally bent a pin on mine as I was installing it in my new main board and it broke off. =/ Great way to start off the New Year right? Moving on I decided to run power from CN6 vs. CN5 so I can preserve my DMD, which is not a color LCD. I prefer the original orange. Sega actually put out a service bulletin (No. 106) on this.

Anyway, I wanted to check the power on the new connector and it was good. However, the DMD isn't lighting up as well as several other lamps, etc. The only thing missing is the microprocessor. Everything else is connected as as it originally was, minus CN6 supplying power to J1 on the DMD. Which is providing a steady 5.0+ v. I even tested it connecting power via CN5 and got the same behavior.

Any wizard here that can answer my microprocessor question?

FYI for anyone thinking of adding the EnerGI it’s out of production

Quoted from sdpinballa:

Definitely.
If you are handy with a soldering iron, you could bend the pin out slightly and solder a spare pin from some dead chip onto the back. Otherwise, order a new chip.

So, I just joined the club. About to buy a rubber kit. Any consensus on whether white or black looks/plays better on this machine?

I don’t know about the consensus but I think white looks best. I just got a set from Titan.

#3194 4 years ago

I went with Titan yellow on mine

#3195 4 years ago
Quoted from allsportdvd:

I went with light blue Titans, but red would look great too. There's a kit available on the Titan database.

#3196 4 years ago

I did a standard white kit from Marco as I prefer "stock" looking games with less "bling". That said, next time around, I'll go with titans in red, blue, and yellow, as this game was an "adventure" to properly shop out, haha.

#3197 4 years ago

Pulled it out of a warehouse where it has been neglected for years, at least. Going to strip down the playfield while I'm waiting for a rubber kit(went with white from Marco). Lot of dirt, rust on the ramp flaps and the cab has some rough spots. But it plays, the dmd is working fine and I don't see any damage to the various mechanisms.

DE and BIG DMD Sega playfields tend to be very robust in my experience. They tend to clean up literally to brand new with some elbow grease and novus.

You don't really see many worn-to-wood spots on DE/SEGA games, other than typically around scoops, or well used examples where a ball is constantly kicked out in the same spot (GNR, LAH)

Based on the lack of wear at the shark hole, I'd wager this is a relatively low play machine compared to others. As an aside I would guess MOST Baywatch's PROBABLY were less played compared to their peers, as I can't really imagine walking into an arcade as a pubescent teenager when these were on location, and pumping quarters into this over a slew of other flashy, B/W titles, or more masculine themed games.

Nowadays, as a discriminating connoisseur who values play over theme, it's a GREAT game. And the theme now kind of just kind of works as a generic beach theme, or 90's nostalgic cheese, in a good way.

Congrats on the pickup!
