Hello All. My question is pretty basic and will probably get some laughs from most of you. I have had a Jurassic Park pin for 2 years. I replaced the AA batteries last year with the game off, but that wiped my high scores and settings. To prevent that, do I replace the batteries while the game is turned on? Is that safe to do? Thanks for your wisdom.

Yep.
However--do *not* use alkaline batteries on the MPU. Those are ticking time bombs and can damage or completely destroy an MPU.
Instead, consider using NVRAM instead.

It is safe to replace batteries with the power on. Just be careful not to short anything against the PCB while taking the batteries out.
You probably want to put a FM1608 in there. $10 shipped and you never need to worry about batteries ever again.
