Yes, you need an acid to clean the alkaline. Vinegar was typically recommended, but Zep is more acidic and does a better job at removing it (and make sure to wear gloves when handling it).
However, in this particular case, it look like the leakage didn't go beyond the holder, so I would suggest just cutting the holder off the board with a pair of nippers and then going with one of the battery replacement options.
