So are the SLE shipping with a topper and the LE without? The LE does come with that topper right?

#350 7 years ago
Quoted from MT45:

Added another mod to my 66SLE. Concerned about the pinstripe getting worn off near the flipper buttons. I cut some pieces of PET-G and crafted some protectors for each side. Removed 3 screws from Stern siderails, drill PET-G with 5/32" where screws hold it on. Used my punch set to pop out the flipper button holes, installed and they fit perfect!
BTW ... still very concerned about wearing the pinstripe on top of lockdown bar and red bat sticker around the lockdown bar action button. Only solutions I can think of are mylar or clear coat

Dang you are serious about your pin protection!

Quoted from trunchbull:

What'd they make that magnet out of, butter?

And a playfield made of balsa wood?

#740 7 years ago
Quoted from labnip:

Any concerns (effects) of putting Mylar on clear?

Wax the PF first or you will have a heck of a time getting the Mylar off of you ever need to.

Quoted from iceman44:

I don't know if you guys can see this or not but I dropped the motor, wasn't hard, remember it was half hanging on to begin with because of missing screws.
The wiring assembly is wrapped around the motor!
No wonder the wiring had no slack. Wtf!!!

I thought Stern play tested these things!?

#1340 7 years ago

Ice you have a superior attitude about this whole situation! I have to say if I had received that pin I would tell Stern that I'm sending the game back and I want them to fix it (and pay shipping both ways)

BM66 question, I am buying a HUO BM66 and will most likely have to have the game shipped. My question is has any one seen any cases of cabinet splitting on this game? If I have the game shipped and it goes thru STI it would have to go legs on shipped, also does BM 66 have the updated “Williams style” cabinet corner brackets?

#7424 6 years ago

Thanks guys! I am buying a used LE that is a 10+ hour drive from me, it sounds like Legs on shipping is a bad idea in this case
:-/

Quoted from thundergod76:

None of the BM66s have the Bally/Williams braces on them. I think Stern started putting those on for the Star Wars PRE/LE machines. Mine started to split very early after I got it. If the previous owner didn't put them on I would HIGHLY recommend you put them on ASAP.
http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=144

Here's the brace job I performed on my BM66 including wood glue shot into the top front joints.

What screws did you use for installing those brackets?

#7432 6 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

Personally I wouldn’t ship anything with the legs on too much movement for my liking. 10/12 hour drive, just do it!
I have done at least half a dozen 10 hour drives for pins and once and probably never again I did a 27hour drive for a pin, during the trip I was asking why the hell I had done this but once I was home it was well worth it!

Its 11 hours 1 way I guess I could stock up on 5 hour energy and go for it.

Last question on this, are you guys only reinforcing the front inside corners of the cabinet or are you installing the brackets in all 4 corners?

Ok I jumped in my truck at 12:30 am this morning and drove 450 miles to meet a fellow pinsider who hauled this Batman LE game #66 just north of Sacramento for me and shaved 9 hours off my trip. Big thanks to Joe & Dan for helping me make this happen. I did not want to let those ham fisted NAVL guys tear this game up.

I just got home 900 miles later safe and sound. Here is a pic of me with Batman LE in the truck and Mt Shasta behind me, I will post pics after I take a nap and get her unwrapped

#7491 6 years ago

Wow! I had never seen a an LE in person and I have to say this game is absolutely beautiful! When I unwrapped it I was like Daaang that looks nice! Also the game has a petG playfield protector on it and the playfield looks like piece of glass.

I see that you started to put nice mods already, it looks Amazing! Congratulations!

I can’t take credit for any of the mods, they were all done by piperpinball. The BatCopter has a motor on it and the blades spin when the turn table spins, I need to try to figure out how to fit the atomic pile mod on the game, I may have the move the BatCopter. I have no idea how The PP got the mini TV mounted at the end of the crane, must have been a real PITA!

My BM LE came with one of the new playfield protectors on it and the game plays fast as hell! I like having it on the game and I can’t see any downside to it, also I just installed a sheet of Invisa Glass on my game and between that and the smooth as Glass look the playfield protector gives it, it looks very nice!

Quoted from BrewinBombers:

Got my first billion on .84 tonight. All the way through Penguin with 'to the batcave' bump added. Bat Turn once, Mr Freeze once (didn't complete) and Egghead once (didn't complete).
Such a fun game.

I thought I had the most current code but I am only running .83 is it worth updating?

#7556 6 years ago
Quoted from pauloz:

I’ll second that with a f$&@ yes!

Ok just did some reading and now it makes sense as to why I couldn’t figure how to get the channel changing mode to work, I will be updating to .84 ASAP.. thanks guys

#7565 6 years ago
Quoted from thundergod76:

Forget the Stern Bat signal and buy docquest's Bat signal mod. Better quality for a lot less!

Yep that’s what I am running, super easy install on the LE.. thanks Doc!

My cabinet corners look perfect so I figured I would be proactive and reinforce them with the upgraded brackets.

#7574 6 years ago
Quoted from jfh:

I need to do this too. Did you do all 4 or just the front 2?

At this point just the front two corners, I heard the rear corners have never been an issue.. if anyone has heard differently let me know as I will upgrade those brackets as well.

#7576 6 years ago
Quoted from kidchrisso:

Where are you guys buying the brackets from?

PBL for the main brackets and Home Depot carries the smaller brackets and the screws. I predrilled the holes to the appropriate undersize and then used some wood glue on the threads.

#7578 6 years ago
Quoted from MK6PIN:

Im going to pass on the smaller ones.....not sure they are needed (?)

They may be overkill, I saw people had been using them in another thread on the subject. If I do the rear corners I will just do the main brackets as the cab is stronger in the back to start with.

#7659 6 years ago
Quoted from thundergod76:

I emailed Chas yesterday when I received my one and only harness. Hopefully he'll respond after the Holiday. But the service bulletin on Stern's site clearly says node boards 8 AND 9. That tells me there should be 2 harnesses. One for each board. Hopefully Stern will straighten this out.

Can I Email Stern/Chas directly for my node board service bulletin parts kit or do I need to go thru my Distro?

Finally updating to .84 I just downloaded the code, do I need to unzip the file before I load the code into the game?

#7731 6 years ago
Quoted from Concretehardt:

Finally updating to .84 I just downloaded the code, do I need to unzip the file before I load the code into the game?

One last question when I unzip the .84 code file it shows 3 separate files do I drag all 3 onto the memory stick to update game code?

Quoted from Sethman:

yes put all 3 (or however many files are inside of the zip as it can vary update to update) directly onto the root of the USB drive. Making sure you only have those files on the drive. no zip or other files as they can interfere in the update.

Quoted from RetroGamerJP:

yes. make sure USB is formatted FAT32 and there are no other files on it.

Thanks guys!
Man what a huge update! 3.95 GB

#7776 6 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

Well its a little better than Avenvers since that one has no magnet at all so it is rarely centered. At least the one on Batman sometimes will center itself. Maybe his next game with a spinner will center itself all the time.
I havent looked at how the self centering works. Maybe a stronger magnet could be put in there to make it self center more often? Its probably a delicate balance to get it to self center and also spin freely when you whack it hard.

I wonder if there is a way to adjust the centering mech, mine seems to center itself every time.

#7781 6 years ago
Quoted from thundergod76:

I think the largest wood screws that will fit in the bracket holes are best. That way there will be no chance of the brackets shifting. Some are using 3/4" long screws. I played it safe and used 1/2" long screws. Didn't want to pierce the cab decals. I also used wood glue with each screw and shot some into the top corner joint under the lockdown.

I use 5/8" screws with small washers.. Pre drill the holes with undersized drill bit, I measure and wrap the drill bit with blue tape to keep from drilling the holes too deep.

On the magnet I am not getting much action either, I put Ninja chrome balls from the Ball Baron in my game from day 1 and now it has me wondering if those balls are magnet compatible?

#7804 6 years ago
Quoted from thundergod76:

Thanks for the video extendo! Here's another that shows the channel changer slightly better. An awesome feature!
» YouTube video

It’s a bit of a sensory overload with all the video and mode options for me on this game! Can someone explain exactly how to activate he channel changing feature?

PS. The “Bat turn” mode is hilarious!

#7855 6 years ago
Quoted from frolic:

The channel changing really comes in handy now, because I want to watch and listen to the new modes, so I have the ability to do that.

I am running .85 code and I still havnt figured out how to use the channel changing, how do you activate it? There is a lot going on in this game and I see how I can select a minor villain ect, but I have not been able to figure out how to activate channel changing.. I only have about 10 games on the new code. :thinking

#7857 6 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Keep the button pressed down for about a second and you'll see the grey tv screen changing channels

Ok can I do this anytime or only when I start a mode?

#7861 6 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Anytime, changing it back and forth

Ok apparently I have no channel changing ability, my action button on the lock bar works for launching the ball and using gadgets but when I hold it down nothing happens no matter if I have just started a mode or have just plunged my first ball. What am I doing wrong, is there a setting in the menu to turn channel changing on? I am running .85 code

#7864 6 years ago
Quoted from thundergod76:

You have to have at least 2 modes running simultaneously to be able to switch between them.

Ok that is what I was not understanding, I didn’t have two modes running. I just changed channels on my last game.. super cool! Thanks for the help guys!

#7868 6 years ago

I really want to add the Atomic Pyle mod but I have the batchopper sitting on my TV and it is wired so that the blades spins when the turntable spins. Not sure if the chopper will clear the AP mod, I may just have to order it and see if I can make both fit as I love the lit chopper with spinning blades but only so many places it can go.

Still have plenty of room for the new Bat phone with Shakespeare bust. New Batmobile /Batcave spinner and the Bat computers panels to cover the wiring.

My wallet is shrinking

#7879 6 years ago
Quoted from thundergod76:

@Conctretehardt I remember your machine from Piperpinball. He did a ton of modding to that machine. I wonder why he sold it?

I had been trying to get PP to let go of his BMLE for a long time! I think he had other incoming games and projects he was working on so we were finally able to work a deal.

#7880 6 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

If he's missing that, he's probably also missing the stainless diverter that goes near the bottom of the plastic that covers the GADGET area...also a free fix.

So to get the free fixes from Stern can I just email Chas? What exactly should I ask for? Thanks in advance for any help.

#7883 6 years ago
Quoted from PinMonk:

You just want the left ramp kit and the stainless deflector for the bottom of the plastic that covers the gadget targets. The deflector is pictured installed at the bottom of Batgirl's feet in the picture I've attached.
While you're at it, ask for the kits for SB 189 and SB 190 if you haven't already to update your node boards so they don't die or create phantom switch hits.

Thanks!!

Please download the free open source archive extractor. 7-Zip from this link http://www.7-zip.org/ and install before unzipping the game code ***"
Once I extracted the files using that program, the update worked fine

Good catch I didn’t see that note, I will try that.. thanks

Besides topper, you will be missing:
-web armor
-art blades
-"1 of 1" machine for LEs (episodes/gadgets)
-Batgirl imagery on LE
those things are probably the biggest differences besides the topper.
then the usual le stuff, George and Lyman's playfield signatures, Gary certificate.

I much prefer the art package on the LE vs Premium! (cabinet & Back box) for that mater I prefer the LE art package over the SLE as well... Jmho

Are there any LE or SLE owners out there that want to test the "serious profit" theory but don't want to face the price police out in full force? If so, please send me a PM and see if we can come to an agreement. Anonymity is 100% guaranteed if requested and I will donate to pinside on behalf of the seller IF a deal can be reached.

I got some very serious health news yesterday not sure what is in store for me now but I may be selling all my games soon including BMLE. My wife wants me to keep them because they make me happy but if this is worse case for me then I don’t want to leave her with pinball machines to deal with. In the mean time I could use all the prayers I can get, I’m going to see a neurosurgeon on Monday.
I am walking around in a daze thinking of my wife and young daughter, cherish every moment guys.

Thanks for the well wishes guys! You are all my Pinside family, long story short I had an episode 2 days ago and my left hand locked into a fist and my arm went numb I went to the hospital and had mri and Ct scan. It turns out that I have a have a tumor of some sort the size of a lemon on the top right side of my Brain... you can imagine my surprise, shock, terror when I saw the pictures. My wife is a battle hardened cancer survivor so I have good support. It sounds like I will be having brain surgery soon to remove the mass.. the doctors think it is operable. I am 49 years old and don’t want to be greedy but had hoped someday to dance with my daughter at her wedding (she is 16) and meet my grandkids someday.
I believe god has a plan for us all just trying to make sense of this right now.

Now you guys get back to talking about BM and I will power thru this, heck maybe Lyman will have us to 1.0 code by the time I thru my surgeries

Holy bat scar fellas.. quick update on my condition they removed my brain tumor and I woke up still thinking about pinball so I’m still me. My head hurts like hell operation was a success now the wait for pathology reports on the tumor (scary). If bad news I’m ready for a fight! If you have any extra prayers please send them my way.

Ok last health update on me here on this my favorite Pinside thread. After a successful “craniotomy” last Thursday (tumor removed) I got the call that I had been stressing about since my diagnosis.. my pathology report, It turns out my tumor which was the size of a lemon was a benign grade 1 tumor (not cancer) which was the best possible news I could have received. I was able to sit down with my Daughter and tell her that her dad didn’t have cancer which was a pretty special moment. I can’t begin to say how lucky I feel and considering that 1 week ago I was in ICU recovering from brain surgery and today I am resting at home. I am still struggling with my speech a bit as it can be difficult for me sometimes to put my thoughts into words and I am dealing with some serious headaches but all things considered I feel very very lucky!!
Fun fact I got off of my anti seizure meds 2 days ago and finally me and my Bat Dog (Noah) went and played my BM66 and I beat my all time high score! The thing is that I have never been a great pinball player and have always struggled with making consistent shots, it seems that this tumor was pushing on an area that affected my motor function because I am hitting shots and playing better and more consistently than I ever have!

Based on your other pin (Addams Family), BM66 has much deeper rules than Addams.
AFMR is more like Addams, love the simple yet challenging depth. DI is about as deep as BM66 if you like that format of game.
It is a very personal decision that only you can make.

I sold my DI to buy BM66

Quoted from iloveplywood:

Interesting, so no regrets I take it? I'd love to hear your thoughts on both machines having owned both if you ever get the chance. Anyway, I think I'll go back and play Dialed In one more time, but I'm really leaning towards Batman 66.

DI just didn’t hold my intrest, I am not saying it’s a bad game but for me BM66 is a lot more fun to play. Last note on DI, I just didn’t care for the call outs and music and the more I played it the less I cared for it.. I feel the exact opposite about the sound package and game play on BM66 (I love it!)

Fun fact about the pinsider that I bought my DILE from.. he is now a member of this club as he ended up buying a BM66 (and he is loving the game)

Quoted from Yelobird:

Fricken LOVE this game and it just keeps getting better!!! On a side note I must vent. I install Awesome Cliffy's on most of my games as habit but I must say installing them on Batman yesterday was a test of patience! Product is great but to install them especially on the Penguin hole was like destructive surgery! You have to practically take apart the entire machine to get them in!!! Add to that dialing in the rear protector on the mystery hole took an hour to dial in that switch properly..... Vent off just sayin Bravo to anyone else that installed these. So worth it in the end but last night I wanted to roll the game out and quit. One question note for anyone that did install these. I completely had no luck with the lane protector he provided? Am I to believe he wants us to yank the press fit rail to get this in? No thanks if that is the case. A simple slot at that location would have been Way easier so I skipped them and opted for a simple mylar.

I just installed a Cliffy on my BMLE shooter lane, I took a small punch and carefully tapped the rail out from the bottom of the playfield then installed the cliffy and tapped it back into place was pretty quick and easier than what I thought. I also installed a Cliffy drain hole protector, super easy to install this one.

. When you go into the $7500 ish range on a pin, you have to start looking at what other pins you can get; like AFMr-LE, DI, WOZ

I have owned all 3 of the above.. Great games, but all are long gone from my small collection. I have a BM66 LE and all I can say is that it is a very special game for many reasons, also remember if you buy a BM66 it comes with a lifetime membership to the best club thread on Pinside.

Right flipper held in, tap left flipper. Let go. Right flipper in, tap left, let go. rinse repeat. Each time you press the right flipper in, it'll be the next major villain in the list. If you want to go back to one you already changed, you'll need to cycle through the remaining and it'll start back over again.

Ok maybe a dumb question, but once I have selected my villain do I need to hold the right flipper whil I launch the ball?

Honestly, your best bet is selling your Prem and just buying a HUO LE with the topper already on it. That will likely cost you a bit over $2k more, but it's a sure thing.

Good luck finding an LE under 10k! I looked for a while and ran wanted adds with no success for a while and that was last November when the code was showing promise but still had a ways to go. One of my buddy’s had a modded out LE and I was finally able to talk him out of it last December.

Well after looking at my Atomic Pile mod for nearly 2 months I finally felt up to installing it last night (it was much easier than I thought) I love this mod it looks amazing, thanks to Dave for making it! I left my batcopter in place for now, It lights up and the blades spin when the turn table activates. I may move it down the road but for now I’m just happy to finally have a legit Atomic Pile on my game. I am feeling a lot better these days and since getting off my siezure meds I am thinking much more clearly and have way more motivation, I am finally getting my life back!

Well, after months of procrastinating I think I am going to finally pick up a BM66.
I was just curious what peoples thoughts are on the playfield protector for BM66. Is it worth getting or not worth the trouble? Also, for those who have installed, was it very difficult (I have never installed one before, but looks a bit challenging).
Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

My LE has a PF protector and it plays fast, I really don’t notice it is on there except that the playfield looks extra glossy.

3 weeks later
#12380 5 years ago
Quoted from Thunderbird:

I debated back and forth on PF protector and decided against it after seeing two of my friends with them on their Bat66 tables. They look so bad and the installs were very good. It looks like there is a film all over the table. No matter how hard you try, air bubbles happen over time all over the PF. Looks worse than some tiny dimpling for sure. Can’t really see dimpling on my table unless you shine the light just right. It’s part of pinball and looks right. Just like a Pantene that develops on leather over time. Looks good and is normal.
The Protector causes the playfield to rise higher than it was designed to play, so the ball does funky things. My table plays circles around theirs in every way. The best playfield protector is the one that’s ripped off and thrown on the ground. Lol
LEDs are dimmer and nothing pops on the fab artwork. It’s like putting plastic seat protectors over your nice leather car seats. Remember when people did that? Was horrible! My grandparents drove their car around for ten years with miserable hot plastic all over the seats. 10 years later the car was worn and rusted out, but hey, the seats looked brand new! Lol!!

My BM66 LE has had a new style playfield protector since day 1 and it looks like a sheet of glass! It lays perfectly flat and the game plays lightning fast. I am picky about my game play and if the PF protector ever so much as slightly altered the path of the ball or was bubbling up I would cut it off in a heartbeat!

Quoted from VolunteerPin:

Serious question...why is the LE so much more expensive than premium? Any gameplay difference? There is a local LE for sale but I’m not really inclined to pay the difference.

LE has very cool interactive topper, different translite, different cabinet art (that I much prefer) metal flake powder coated bat wing armor and legs (same as SLE) Adam West signature, art blades ect.. as for if it’s worth the extra money or not, only you can decide. They only made 240 of them so they are much more limited than a standard LE. Stern just sold an Elvira SLE and it comes with different art and a piece of Elviras couch and it cost $5000 more than the LE (insane) but it sold out same day.

Quoted from Thunderbird:

Absolutely zero difference in game play. In fact the PF is the exact same as the premium. Only cabinet, translite artwork and topper are the difference. Save your money and get the premium with all the improvements over the old LE. Example: new premium cabinet is miles better than the old LE cabinet made several years ago. I had that cabinet and it felt like I could pick it up and toss it, compared to the new premium cabinet with reall plywood, corner bracing, etc. Numerous improvements on the PF as well.

I think you are overstating this, I’ve played all versions except the SLE and I didn’t notice a difference in cabinet feel, make sure your cabinet has the Williams style brackets and you will be fine with any of them.

The stern one yes it is. It does come on when you turn the game on and goes off once you start a game. During game play it comes on when the bat phone goes off. So this light connects into the backbox.
