I don't mean to just show up in a 1000 post thread but thought this would be the place to ask. I sold off my collection 3 years ago to fund my fledgling business. I miss them everyday. Also I live rural now so pins in the wild are few and far between. Thursday was in Chicago at Level 257. Got to play the machines I've been reading about. Hobbit and Houdini were cool, Batman was a 10! Its like it was made for me. The best sound integration I've heard. Think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy. I read all the code issues, Are there updates coming and how is existing code? Last question, are there any differences in play between the different models? Thanks!

Hello and welcome! Short answers to your questions are the code is very good right now with more updates on the way. All the code bashing was when we went 10 months or so without a single update. That has become a distant memory. It still needs to reach 1.00. Even the smallest of updates include more modes. So much to do and so much more to come! All 3 models play identical. Only differences between models are art packages and added bling to the playfield which you can add yourself. So many incredible must have mods for this pin. Buy one...you'll love it!

Quoted from docquest:

You cant see it in that pic but there is a long flat base plate that covers the whole top of the back box that's about 28" long. It needs to be that wide since there are tapped bolts holes at the ends of the backbox that the topper bolts into. The rectangular black box you see in the earlier pic is attached to the base plate.

Here’s some pics of base plate for bat signal topper without the Villians topper attached.

Wow nice collection. Love the surround lighting! Can you share what kind you used? Been thinking of going this route myself but Amazon has 10 Thousand types. lol Impressive.

this is a 1 on 1 super high res scan/copy of an original SLE translite printed on translite paper, so basically the same

How does the egghead mode work now? Do you have to complete the bat gadget target bank and then make one shot?

I played batusi multiball today and yes I can confirm seeing Batman doing the Batusi A bit hard now as you must complete the king tut for season 3 otherwise it's lost (you have to complete all of the minors otherwise). King tut sure has funny modes, with the music, being launched from his car, etc...

When Egghead mode starts I use a Gadget which displays a roving yellow arrow. Shoot that arrow and you've completed the mode.

I’ve had this machine for a week now, and it just occurred to me that I still have no idea how to use gadgets or what they’re for.

#9315 6 years ago
Quoted from TimO:

The main thing you can use them for is advancement of shots during villain modes. If your gadget button is flashing during gameplay you have at least one gadget to use.

#9316 6 years ago

Egghead is a frenzy + jackpot shot.

During the frenzy, each switch scores and builds the jackpot by 125,000. BEFORE the timer ends, you can hit the gadget button (be sure you're on the egghead channel) to light a roving shot to cash in the jackpot and complete the mode.

If you don't end the mode, you keep the points, but don't defeat egghead and get credit for season 2.

#9317 6 years ago

I can confirm that dropping the angle of BM66 from 8.4 to “only” 7.5 makes the game much more playable.

Thank you very much. I was really doubting that the usage of a gadget was a must in this mode but apparently it's the only way to end this mode.

And I should have read the readme better.. :

- Added a mode for Egghead (episodes 47/48, Egg Fight). All switches
score 250,000 and build a jackpot that can be lit on one of the shots
by using the gadget button. Once the jackpot is lit, the points from
the switches stop adding to the jackpot. The mode ends when time runs
out or when the jackpot is collected.
- EGGHEAD mode (EGG FIGHT) with jackpot shot lit via GADGET BUTTON now
allows movement of the jackpot based on standup target hits. Left targets
(GADGET, TURNTABLE) move the shot to the left. Right targets (POP BUMPER,
GORDON, TVs) move the shot to the right.

Any time you are plunging and already in a major villain mode, the super skill shot awards a gadget and that's a good way to stockpile them. My personal strategy is to save the gadgets to help finish the minor villain modes if I'm about to run out of time, drain or just can't make one of the shots.

Didn’t know that, and great to know. I think I’ll be still finding stuff in this game in 10 years time.

#9321 6 years ago

I'm also figuring out how to use the gadgets for ball locks. I have succeeded in doing this from the top saucer, but apparently you can do it from a plunge too. Supposed to do it between the right loop switch and the lock entry.

I've found this exceptionally difficult in the last two code releases. The first release with this feature I could make it happen regularly. Now, it's tough.

I found this out by accident when using the gadget button to plunge on older code, think I ended up mashing the button a little and watched the ball get fired out of the shooter lane into the turntable lock, very cool! The code is packed with little tricks and secrets it’s just getting better and more and more jam packed with cool stuff.

#9325 6 years ago

Today I discovered Steve Ritchie in an animation! (for real). But I have a hard time locking balls with the bat gadget button.

Also reached Batusi multiball (in the video below that I made of the Batusi part). It ran together with bat turn. At the end it shows 'villain escape total' but think this is a small bug in the software.

Warning spoiler alert...

Shit! Might have to put it back up to 8.4 degrees!

Quoted from TKDalumni:

You know, I have been evaluating and thinking hard about picking up a BM66 to swap out for my MMR in my 3 pin collection. One of the reasons I haven't made the move yet is that BM66 reminds me too much of LOTR when it comes to game play and game length. Both LOTR and BM66 are both pure Gomez in style, i.e. fan arrangement with only the 2 lower flippers, and epic multiple modes. Both have some uniqueness, but they still are very similar. Enough so that I'm holding off on BM66, hoping something with 3-4 flippers is coming out soon in a killer theme.

.....but damn, BM66 is so much fun to play!!

She just gives up when me and Danni get on a roll.

Talking of outlanes - the left outlane, when the ball hits those metal side rails, the ball just vacuums down the outlane. No saving those puppies! They mentioned it on the PAPA Finals stream in the weekend. The right sling has a propensity to slam the ball hard into that rail just under the lane post ... BANG! WHOOOOSH! She’s gone!

Nope. I used to have to stop playing LOTR after like 40 Mins to let the flipper coils cool down for a while. Then come back and play for another 30 minutes.

Got tedious. Out the door she went.

Wow - 124 games and no LOTR?!

Wow - 124 games and no LOTR?!

Sollllldddd!

Had a pro to start. Got offered a nice deal on an LE, so bought it. Had it for a long time - we rarely played it. Someone made me a crazy offer .... see ya later!

I bought about 5 or 6 classic 70s/80s Bally/Stern Pins in from the States for the money I got for LOTRLE - I like playing them much better.

Plus I can play a LOTR any time, they are quite common here. Actually - aside from competitions I haven’t actually chased a game on LOTR since I sold mine 2 years ago. So it’s not missed.

Joined the club, one of the best on Pinside! Already have a question. I put a playfield protector on before playing and had a turntable error after. Looks like the back of the turntable is touching the playfield. Any ideas on fixing this? I don’t recall pushing on the turntable. I assume dismantle it and make it true. Thanks for any feedback!

It looks like that turntable is jammed back into the playf ield and can't move freely. There are some adjustments under the play field that you might check.

Yup. Looks to be physically jammed.

There are two major adjustments under the PF - one that centers the turntable (what you probably need to adjust) and one for leveling the turntable PF with the main PF (height). I don't remember exactly how it's mounted, but I think there are three adjustment bolts. It looks imposing, but it becomes obvious after a few minutes. Not easy on the fingers though.

Before you play a game, run the turntable switch test and see if it rotates to the proper positions. If it doesn't rotate at all, the main solder joint may have come loose when the playfield was dropped and/or the node board may be damaged (though you should see an error on power up if true).

Very good move to install the playfield protector.
