Starting a new thread for discussion of current code for Batman 66.

Code is essentially the same between Premium/LE/SLE models. Initial games shipped with code at .61 or lower.

As of 1/12/17, the current code level is 0.65

- Added/implemented new Joker standup target switch.
- Added Penguin crane lamp to the background lamp effect for the
penguin mode.
- Changed the priority of the background lamp effect for the fire button
so certain effects (HSTD initials, etc.) will be displayed.
- Fixed Catwoman speech; changed the Joker explosion.
- Added video/effects for major villains.
- Fixed issues with the major villain modes (one player's work
affecting another's).
- Increased replay and high score defaults.
- Fixed a bug in the Penguin mode that was causing state to be carried
over from player to player.
- Added sounds and speech.
- Fixed initialization of major villain advance.
- Added settings so it is not so difficult to restart the major villain
modes after failing to answer the Batphone.
- Disabled some background lamp effects for the turntable when the
turntable is in a different position and the shots cannot be reached.
- Disabled the Batmobile spinner switches so they do not register unless
the Batmobile spinner is facing the player.
- Improved ball handling for the turntable lock.
- Smoothed player transition animations.
- Fixed a bug where the player 4 score is highlighted at start of a new
4 player game after completion of a prior 4 player game.
- Tweaked position of 2 player scores to avoid line of background color
showing through at bottom.
- Added frame label to one player layout.
- Fixed an issue where the text bubble for the Batphone hurry-up award
was staying on the screen forever (or at least until the next batphone
hurry-up award).
- Fixed some issues with holding the ball in the kickout for super
jackpot.
- Lowered the scoring for the Batmobile spinner.
- Added villains captured display effects.
- Lane change no longer allowed for skill shot.
- Added turntable lock post test.
- Added settings for number of shots needed to light the super jackpot
for the major villains.
- Added grace period lamps for the Joker mode. Fixed an issue where a
Joker primary shot was not resetting the shot move timer, so, depending
on when the move shot was made, the next move would happen too quickly.
- Put background display effects in for minor villains and multiball.
- Added support for additional score frame backgrounds.
- Added ability to set text color in text bubbles.
- Added custom text bubble colors for each villain mode.
- Added ability to set text color in text bubbles.
- Added villain vision effects for Batphone hurry-up.
- Added lamp effect for the Batcave targets.
- Updated and refined minor villain select.
- Added Batmobile spinner lamp effect.
- Fixed the gadget button lamp background to only blink when a gadget can
be applied.
- Added some speech to skill shot.
- Added light shows for major villains.
- Mystery lit when the bottom lanes are completed.
- Fixed issues with turntable awards during the major villain modes (some
were not scoring).
- The match effect was not quieting the music and sound. This has been
corrected.
- Start button press w/ no credits effects (sounds) now allowed after
power-up.
- Reworked Batphone hurry-up scoring.
- Reworked the infrastructure for the villain vision background display
effects.
- Cleaned up Batphone hurry-up so timers will be held.
- Reorganized the Batphone hurry-up start to take less time so it doesn't
tie up the display for such a long time at end of ball or when mystery
and/or minor villain select is trying to run.
- Removed extra gadget button dispatch that was causing double gadgets
to be applied.
- Fixed extra ball so that it lights correctly.
- Playfield multiplier from atomic pile has been changed to only be
awarded if the atomic pile is lit.
- Adjusted background lamp effect priorities so the background lamp
effect for the combos runs on top of the modes.
- Combo shot was not being awarded from the Penguin VUK. This has been
corrected.
- Updated score frame for playfield multiplier status.
- Added adjustment check for major villain mode super jackpot award using
the gadget button (default=NO).

I think it's awesome! Buy a machine one day, and get an update the next. I don't have a problem with that.

My code update failed. Do you have to update anything on the SD card that is located at the top of that board? The SD card references V0.60 but I don't see any files available for download to put on this card. Any ideas?

Look forward to see what you guys with your games think of the new code, hopefully the LCD video/audio has been expanded that would be great.

Copy the .spk file to the root directory of a USB flash drive (formatted FAT32), put the drive in the USB slot on the CPU board and turn the game on to start the upgrade process.

Edit: not aware of anything else that is required. What error message did you get?

Exactly what I did. Here is what I'm getting.

Yes, I did. I have the PREM and downloaded the premium file.

Yes, downloaded the Premium file for my Premium machine. Anyone successfully updated code on a Premium? I even tried to download 2 different times on two different USB drives. Same issue. Weird.

Ok, all three of the code download links (for Premium, LE and SLE) on Stern site are linking to the same exact .spk file. Here are the links for all 3 versions. Perhaps they are all the same code base???

The 3 versions are exactly the same game. They all use the same code.

There aren't a lot of premiums out there yet so I hope they didn't make a mistake.

Wrong. The above video shows callouts exclusive to the SuperLE.

What size are your Zip drives?
I had issues with larger drives for some reason.

Funny...exactly what I thought too! Started with a 128GB and then tried a 4GB with same results. I'm on a PC. You think the code file is the same for all 3 versions.

Don't know what the right answer is but it is possible that the code base could be the exact same and that the code itself detects the correct game version and changes behavior...all from the same set of code.

All 3 versions of the game have the same playfield features. Unless there is something specific for the topper unique to the SLE I can't see why more than one version of code exists.

Cant see why the SLE code would not work on premium.

This is the same thing with all the other games LE and Premium code. Stern puts up a link for each for some reason...but they're literally the same. The SLE has the little Bat signal on the playfield that the LE & Prem don't have...but the LE & Prem still have the connector, so you could attach one if you wanted, and it would function just like the SLE (cuz the code is the same).

Thr hobbit has the Same code for smaug and LE. But they function different in attract mode . All it takes is the initial hardware to be flashed differently, or a software identifier and the game functions differently with the same code.

I'm home but have to wait for nimble to get here. I"m going to back up the old code for sure, but I'm very skeptical that they would all use the same code and have different call outs. I'm not that familiar with the new system. I'll post back when I know for sure.

Just to be clear on the error message I'm getting, if you power the game back off, remove the USB drive from the board and power back on the game works fine using the existing code. So at least it didn't go so far as to overwrite anything.

Was going to ask the same thing...don't think you can extract the code that the game came with can you? is 0.60 available for download on Stern's site?

When I had Met you could extract the code from the machine, but this is a new system.

It's been a while since I update a game by I'm sure on SAM it was an option in the update menu to backup, from what I've seen the sub menu on the LCD system is made to look the same as SAM layout so it should be there somewhere.

Just updated my SLE and worked just fine. Instructions are posted inside back box but are intuitive.

More callouts. More video clips. Capture of villains and more. Holy code upgrades Batman! Loving it
Only issue so far is quite a few double balls in shooter lane after drain. Last 4 games was no issue but previous 6 it happened every time.

I've uploaded....went smooth.....only got one poor game in, as I was running late....I have one big word. CATWOMAN!!! She was on the big screen ( several times), and became an actual mode and instruction on how to complete....

From my short game, there were many more callouts ( heard joker and Penguin), screen interaction that matched target hits, and more screen guidance.

There were stills and some video clips...way different from original version, but like I said...only one game on it ( still at my office)....will bang it out and report tomorrow...seemed VERY promising

There are a TON of clips if you load the spike file into pinball browser. Lots of custom call outs from Adam and Burt and tons of batman and robin speech clips from the show. Hundreds og quotes from the 4 main villains as well as the 6 minor villains. Tons of o'hara, gordon, alfred, desmond doomsday (show narrator). I couldn't find any batgirl though. There is a lot of call outs for the every hour (1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock, etc), I wonder if that will be some type of mode using time.

Lots of funny pinball related quotes from batman and robin. If they use even 1/2 of these it will be fantastic. I couldn't believe how many holy's were in there from robin. Don't look below if you want to discover them yourself during actual gameplay

But oddly enough they didn't change it on the main page of each game version. I wonder if they will send you extra decals if you complained. Might be handy down the road if you ever scrapped up the head moving it and wanted replacement decals.

I just updated from .59 to .65. The upload went just fine and I was able to play a few games. The zip file size is about 3.6gb and took longer for me to download from the internet than to install in the game. Notable changes I've noticed after two games:

- Really cool graphics when you super jackpot and capture each villain. You get to see them get locked up behind bars. There are also new clips from the series of each being captured just before they enter the slammer. These are the best updates this time around.
- Cool Riddler music that I don't remember, so must be new, but still the bat signal video shows during his mode so it's the most unfinished mode remaining.
- Many cool new Catwoman mode pictures, particularly when you hit one of the ramps during her mode. One really nice one of her cracking her whip.....Meow!!!
- New Super Jackpot call outs, as explained in the read me.
- New mini television graphics of the boom, sock, biff, etc., (unless I didn't notice them previously).
- Same with the yellow light on top of the crane working now, it's easy to see Penguin in the cab now. That might have already made it to .60 but I don't recall it in my .59.
- A few more call outs are active, but not very many that I recall.
- Appears to be no change in topper activity, though I only played one game with it under the old code.
- One potential bug. When you get a minor villain and complete the major villain it was awarded against, you hear that minor villains music at the end of the major villain mode as they are captured. I heard both King Tut going over Catwoman and Bookworm over Riddler. There are no other minor villain cues that I noticed, so I think that's something unfinished at this point.
- I think mulitiball is a little harder to get now, but I'm not certain.
- Still no reward after completing all four major villains.

Anyone have an issue with the topper having 2 lights that never go out? They are on when everything else is off, as well as when the signal rotates. I installed the SLE topper after v0.65 update, so I don't know if it's a software or hardware issue. Thoughts?
