Quoted from kpg:

That is such bullshit. Way to treat a customer who has spent thousands of dollars on your products. I was blocked last year for just asking if Ghostbusters was really coming out and if it was only a rumor. Block/banned from Facebook and Instagram for that. Who ever runs their pages is a complete asshole.

So you showed your objection to their actions by ordering a Ghostbusters LE? I think a more effective course of action would have been not buy their product and tell them why.

Quoted from flynnibus:

Sure you can... it's called a contract between individuals. You can agree to whatever you both agree to. The game isn't for public sale, so they can put whatever conditions they want on it.

So you put it on location in someone's house. The person you flipped it to. They pay you 30k with option to buy after 18 months.

Flippers suck but that contract clause is pointless.

Quoted from j_m_:

if they use this as the justification, then they must truly think their customer base is naive. off the shelf LCD displays (which are widely produced) are a lot cheaper than the custom LED display panel that they've been using for the past 6 years.

How does the cost of producing animation to show on a DMD compare to the cost of animation for an LCD? The cost of the hardware isn't the only factor.

In my uninformed opinion it seems likely LCD animations would also be cheaper due to more people being available with the required skillset and more software available. I'm interested in learning more. Is there much overlap in the skillsets? How does the time investment per minute of animation compare between the two formats? Is it significantly easier in one format to utilize existing images, perhaps using an existing clip as a starting point and turning that footage into your pinball machine animation?

Quoted from srmonte:

...lucky to break even or make very little when selling.

When your used, years old product sells for more money on the secondary market good business sense says it's priced too low.
Any business has financial incentive to price their item as high as possible and still sell all they make.

If you make money selling your used game you're telling the manufacturer they can make more money by raising prices. The typical user doesn't add value to a game just by setting it up and playing it for a few years.

Quoted from jwilson:

Comparing a Stern pinball machine, made by a tiny manufacturer in very small numbers - less than 4,000 probably - to a production bike made by one of the largest manufacturers in the world that is probably going to make 50,000-100,000 bikes isn't fair to Stern.

I think you vastly overestimate the number of motorcycles Yamaha makes.
Sales data for ALL motorcycles sold in the US in 2015 was only slightly over half a million. Yamaha was a small piece of that. Each model they produced was a small piece of their small piece. It's very possible any one model of motorcycle sold less than ten thousand units per year.

Quoted from iceman44:

Record karaoke version of ... the Bee Gees "Night Fever" remade to "Batman Fever", along with appropriate attire and dance moves.

Pac-Man Fever is a better lyrical fit but the dance moves are probably less well known.

Quoted from Whysnow:

My impression was that FullT was likely selling good overseas/UK since that is where they are from. I also got the impressionHeighway has done a good job of marketing outside of Pinside?

Motorcycle racing is a huge draw many places outside the US. The top riders are as recognizable as rock stars are over here. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Full Throttle was a great earner/seller outside the US.

Quoted from Yipykya:

Better yet you could send Stern money to unlock special features in the code.
Different music, new call outs, extra wizard modes, more ball savers...

Maybe the LCD will come standard with black and white. Color is already in the code but it costs $400 to unlock it. Why not extend the concept to additional scenes/characters? No Catwoman unless you buy the code to unlock her. Batmobile is an 80s Yugo unless you buy the code to display the original.
