Quoted from KingNine:

I forgot to mention in my post that I love this theme! I'm on the very excited side of the fence.

Ditto!!!...is it wrong to ask where would be the best shot at reserving an LE? I don't give a shit about the invite ( going for Alien) but definitely interested in this one.....

#500 5 years ago
Quoted from Mr68:

I was told its a refundable deposit until we can see and find out more. I was also told the deposit will likely have a commitment date after which it becomes non-refundable.

ditto to what i was told.....and 9kish on the LE

#644 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Because Stern is trying to F everybody?
I don't think so, deposits are "refundable" and the LE buyers don't give a shit.

My distributor said the deposit WAS refundable, and I've bought from him before....I'm in....think this will be a great pin

#752 5 years ago
Quoted from QuickSilverShelby:

And how do you exactly come to that conclusion when you haven't seen anything?
Obviously you must be an optimist and ultimately it's your money so do as you please but how on God's green earth can you make this claim?

Just stated "I think"...didn't "claim" anything...have an LE coming, and "hope" it is great....how about that....

( I am a calculating optimist too, btw)

#896 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

I'm not saying its the second coming, just should be awesomely cool!
You can be the neutral boring party RD, the mediator.
I am in serious need of some ice cold beer tonight and a long weekend. Been a busy mofo last few weeks.
Throw in a little "real football" RD and we have the makings of a great weekend.

Agree on all accounts except Bourbon for me....

#1056 5 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Exactly - we've heard it so much over the years, but this notion that the next title eats sales from the previous title is naive. If is product is going out the door it doesn't matter which one it is. More choices for customers = more sales. If I want a JJP pinball I only have 2 choices at the moment, and I don't like either one. If I like Lawlor's game, or the next title, I might buy it - that's a sale they wouldn't have had otherwise.

Agreed....TBL, Alien, and BM66 are gonna show....JJP#3 just makes a huge win for consumers AND Manufacturers, imho...choice is healthy...plus, the 3 mentioned will appeal to different groups/ tastes...JJP#3 could fill yet another spot
....this could be an expensive 4th quarter in hobby land ( for me, anyway)

Quoted from thundergod76:

Colored wireforms? Wouldn't the balls scratch the paint off?

#1325 5 years ago
Quoted from DCFAN:

I also thought it was Pinchroma rather than Keefer that was saying that for the ramps.

You are correct......there's a thread somewhere, and the only debatable issue was doing ramps or not, habitrails have always been good to go...

#1349 5 years ago
Quoted from labnip:

how about a laser based batsignal from a small toy on the playfield.
set up a reflector at it's destination point.
Once the ball breaks the laser signal XX amount of times, then batman has responded to the bat-signal and is headed to take on his next mission/mode.
Could be a "start mode" activation mini-mission

That would be amazing!!!!

#1381 5 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

I would suspect at the epic Friday night event during Expo.
LTG : )

So is the meat of this show Thurs-Sat? Debating on flying in on Wednesday, but definitely leaving Sunday AM.

#1383 5 years ago
Quoted from taz:

I don't know, to be honest. Even my distributor doesn't know, and I guess that's the problem. The title could flop and be available immediately on the used market, but if it's a decent game, it might be few and far between. The fact that both LEs and Premiums require pre-orders and large deposits makes me think that this title is something different than what Stern normally issues, hence no pro models. I grew up with the Pow, Kapow, original Batman series, so this title is probably the hottest title for me since TBL. Only Scooby Doo would trump it on my remaining "grail" pins.

I'm in w the 2k refundable deposit...not a grail for me ( desirable theme) but the #'s of available LE's and the mystery of this thing actually make me hope it will rock. No way to know until expo, I suppose ( as Lloyd referenced)...maybe not even completely sure then...suspect the "point of no return" will reveal itself, and I'll be paying attention then, for sure....

#1918 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

That definitely was me in Vegas last weekend.
I managed to lose a Batman and have nothing to show for it!

Glad to know I'm not alone...usually survive Vegas, but back to back Cruises can be crushing in the casino if you get on a bad roll....tough to walk away on the ship...

#2170 5 years ago

Is it just me, or lots of batman shit everywhere lately, it seems......just saw an add for a new batman Xbox game? 3rd annual batman day? Guess I've been out of the bat loop .....sure hope this game is awesome.....

#2249 5 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

What about the whole top secret no-pictures thing ?

potentially my biggest query at this point.....doesn't seem to be a Stern trait up to this point.....

#2562 5 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:

Every single current recording artist uses it.
It does not mean they can't sing.
Autotune simply corrects pitch and works especially well on backing vocals.
Now Autotune can also be used to create an **effect** that many urban recording artists like to use.
That does not mean that those urban artists can's sing on key, it just means the effect is a popular part of today's music.
T-pain is famous for his Autotune effect use, but clearly he can sing on key without it:
» YouTube video
Back in the 1970s (before there was Autotune software), engineers used the H910 Harmonizer to correct pitch and create/thicken harmonies.
It's on all of your favorite albums, believe me.

You are correct....did my share of studio work in the 80's ( leaving names out, but many nationals, as well as regionals) and the eventide was used as an effect, as well as " smoothing " vocals on just about everything....EVERYTHING coming out now is using some sort of pitch correct ( and every vocalist I worked with it appreciated it)...even us guitar players didn't mind having it at our disposal ( certainly cut down on the freakin time)...

#2566 5 years ago

For the record ( what record?) what has been shown for the artwork so far is exactly what I would have hoped for...looking forward to my LE.....

( just finished my bottle of Buffalo Trace, however, so NOT happy w that....)...

#2698 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Sorry Robo, let's just all stop the nonsense. This pin is going to look awesome and will play great. Why?
30th anniversary and Stern doesn't want a POS. And what we know already.
Lyman is doing the coding and it has an LCD. WTF, you guys know 2+2=4. Not that hard to put it together.

With you on this one Ice, but between this and AlienLE, I'm definitely pushing my allowance ( self imposed) ...bourbon back in the house, however, so feeling good about my decision.....now.....JJP3? ...shit....you have any thoughts?

#2701 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

This one is first for me. Period. I have been in on AlienLE pre order for a long time, depends on Expo reveal. JJP #3 and Lawlor, no F ing brainer! Any time either Keith or Lyman does the code on any pin it has the chance to be great, the rest is IFFY.
I'll say this though, my GBLE is F ing AWESOME right now!!!
And Vid throws that Clueless pic up and she is the fattest, ugliest batgirl, right? No such thing.
This might end up being a great thread with the bat girls/ladies.

I'm going to be seriously tempted w JJP3 as well.....oh well....

Bat girls and Bourbon....has a nice ring to it....more pics please...

( I'm AlienLE first, obviously, but don't see me bailing on BM66 second...sounds cooler by the day)

#2708 5 years ago
Quoted from ATLpb:

who has paid more than a deposit? i paid a 2k deposit... if anyone is paying for the whole thing already, dey cray cray

Ditto...refundable for at least a little longer

#2787 5 years ago

Maybe it's because they've had to front X dollars for the Adam West reveal thing @ expo. I'm quite sure my distro will refund the 2k for my LE if I see it and can't stand it. I will/ have bought other pins from him in the past, can't imagine he would risk future business over 2k....probably just sell it to someone else....not like they're making a ton of them.....whatever...

I'm trying not to overthink this....just beyond the point that I was on the fence for a BM anyway, this version sounds even better, and I don't buy to flip, just enjoy and play...not crazy about the price, but just can't imagine this one being a dog ( who knows).....

Expo is going to rock...I'm hoping it was just fortunate timing that this is my first visit....

#2796 5 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

From what I've heard about distributor margins you'd have to buy quite a few pins from him in the future to make up that 2k difference. Seems like a pretty cut throat business. Not saying they'd leave you high and dry, just saying, that would be a lot for them to eat to keep your business.

Could be right....just hard to believe they wouldn't refund the 2k if you just didn't want it after seeing it....a bad business ethical move, imho....I understand pinball biz not nearly big enough to do a 30 day thing or similar like autos....guess we will find out.....

#2797 5 years ago
Quoted from PW79:

Anyone who still has a mortgage
Has not fully funded their children's college education
Does not yet have a sufficient portfolio able to sustain their life without working (even when the market is at the highest its ever been)
Really should not buy this game sight unseen.

What if someone has accomplished half of these goals?........

Truth be told, this theory should apply to buying ANY pin, or luxury item, or vacation, or gamble if you want to play by the book.

Maybe the individual can make their own decision, based on their own personal criteria. I'm not rich, but have gambled far more than 2k just loaning someone money, or business deal....risk vs. reward...a personal choice....

#2805 5 years ago
Quoted from PW79:

Meh don't mind me. I'm just tired of the current pinball situation lately & prolly need a break.

All good w me ( you are right, btw)....I don't take anything on here too serious....I have more than enough drama at work

#2846 5 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

THe big collapse across the board that people have been predicting for 15 years isn't happening anytime soon, sorry.

Tend to agree...just seem to be more choices, and more home buyers.....and I've seen TRONLE's selling for 10k plus still ( with one guy from overseas commenting they didn't even know how many existed period on his side). BIBLES 10k + solid, TAF 6k+, etc., etc. fun times for pinball....

#2869 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

hysteria that is about to explode at expo

Think this could be truth....I'm stoked!!! If 90's are considered classics w some of these new ones, my " pinball portfolio" is diversified enough....

#2873 5 years ago
Quoted from CrazyLevi:

The generally accepted definition of "vintage" is 25 years. In case you haven't noticed, the 90s games are either there or getting there quickly.

Just did that math....'92 TAF, '93 TZ.....shit, they are old ( but play great!!!)....

#2875 5 years ago
Quoted from Travish:

Hey... I am vintage times 2 and change. I am EXTRA vintage.

You just had to go there.....I'm with ya...

#2881 5 years ago
Quoted from Travish:

Damn it, I am still vintage. Hope I make it to antique.

STOP!!! Antique not in my cards...

#2897 5 years ago
Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

...back away from the table, I'm a double vintage WITH a four card.

Well, I raise your 4 w my 7 ( shit)....only doing this as no relevant BM info......

#2898 5 years ago
Quoted from Banker:

LCDs on the play field , can't wait .

In fairness, this is where Heighway is living now....

#3019 5 years ago
Quoted from hawkmoon:

My Dealer hasn't asked if i wanted a Shaker motor for just a couple Hundred more yet! Maybe thats not in the mix this time??

REALLY hoping shaker is included on LE for that price.

#3055 5 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

Ahhh, a few years back I picked up a HUO Apollo 13, which had a shaker, a topper, 13 ball multiball, a rocket, a rotating moon with a magnet....$800!!!! Now that gets you a shaker and a topper lol ... Ah, the good old days.

Would have been cool to be in tune to the hobby back then....as with many things, timing is everything....I'll just be happy if this game is close to what is anticipated!!!....

#3199 5 years ago
Quoted from Aurich:

Speaking as a buyer of pinballs, Hobbit is already at least $500 more than I'm willing to spend on a game. Any game, from any manufacturer. If they tack another $500 it won't change anything for me, but I wonder where other people's personal lines are. At some point it's just too much right?

I can't really put a line in the sand on " too much" as long as I can comfortably afford it, in regards to toys. That's all these things are ...bottom line. I spent $50k on an H1 Hummer several years ago.....no way you can rationalize or justify that fiscally....was just fortunate to have the means, enjoyed it for about 6 years, and sold it for $55k. I was lucky.

Hard to put a price on enjoyment ( activities or toys) when you have very limited free time. I'm not paying $15k for the SLE, simply $9500.00 for the LE. I buy when I can, am a hoarder ( don't "flip" anything), and truly enjoy the hell out of the hobby. There are friends I know that drop sick money on bass boats, golf clubs, etc. ?..I don't judge them, it's their money, but I wouldn't pay $50 for a set of clubs.

When I get lost in the zone, it's the best release I have at the moment. If that changes ( fuck it) I'll sell them all and move on to something else.

I have no inside information regarding the game, but seems like a safe bet if you love the theme ( as I do), and given the high profile nature of the release, game is not going to suck. Why would they do that? Don't buy the cash grab argument, they get plenty of cash from running titles. Think they want to make a statement with this one....we'll see.

I truly believe WOZ ended up costing more to make than what it sold for ( counting development, etc.). Jack had a passion for an " ultimate" pin, and like the theme or not, it's truly a landmark machine.

Would like to think Stern also has passion in their craft ( shows more on some titles than others). No way this hype leads to a dog...period. If I lose 2k, even 3k after several years of ownership....wtf....Horray, could have spent that easy on commodity based shit that vaporizes over that time. Suspect they are circling the wagons on this one....I'm happy to be in on an LE.

#3202 5 years ago
Quoted from PinballManiac40:

Is it time for Expo yet? Damn, this thread turned into a major speculation disaster.

Agreed....very excited to have substance....

#3250 5 years ago
Quoted from rai:

One thing I'd disagree with is that this is a high profile theme etc. so they can't mess it up.

Granted, we won't know for sure for a few more weeks yet. And even then, I never REALLY know until i have the damn thing in my gameroom and play the crap out of it for awhile.

I would just like to think that Stern has been "working in the weeds" to produce something special for their 30th anniversary, and this one will be it. Certainly would be a huge PR blunder if the game sucks at this price, and would potentially hurt their future sales, above and beyond some of the obvious pricing and QC issues of past. Sure, they could probably take the hit better than a smaller company (that's why I'm confident Alien will rock), but will choose to believe Stern is taking a high road with this one.....only time will tell.....

#3257 5 years ago
Quoted from rai:

What line do you draw and say this is a prime title and this is not a prime title?

Boy, there's a question....my answer probably is just " in the eye of the beholder" ......Alien was an absolute instant trigger pull for me...I need and want a dark, sci fi theme, and can't think of a better choice.

I had mild interest in BMTDK , but BM66 hit a great "sweet spot" for me....wanted a superhero theme, hated Avengers ( played several times) and love cartoony themes ( my FGY and TSPP aren't leaving), so this one fit perfectly for ME.

My line sadly has wiggles in it...no way in hell was I going to buy 2 NIB.....now look...pathetic, I am....

#3258 5 years ago
Quoted from RobT:

Being a bit of a videophile, I can tell you that I *hate* those outlines. It reminds me of the DVD days when edge enhancement was so prevalent.

Ha...I'm with you Rob.....maybe the lines will help me define the faces.....the DVD thing was horrid, however....

#3303 5 years ago

When is the Adam West, BB66 release thing , during the Stern party Friday night? My window is shrinking...may have to come in Thursday AM, and leave Saturday AM.....JJP Thursday, Alien reveal at 4, BM66 @ Friday night? Work sucks , but is what it is....

#3305 5 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

Friday night - https://www.tilt.com/tilts/stern-pinball-epic-30th-anniversary-extravaganza
Friday 3pm to 6pm meet and greet Adam West, no games ?
LTG : )

No reveal at the meet and greet? Shit, I like Adam West and all, but was hoping to see the game at the same time..they ARE planning on showing this thing , correct? I scoured the FB page and couldn't find anymore than what has been posted here.

May have to justify me not returning after Alien reveal.....BM meet and greet ( no), machine reveal? Yes....thanks for the update Lloyd...hopefully, they post regarding this SOON....important to some of us....

#3309 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Meet and greet is between 3 - 6 pm then I think the party starts at 7 pm?
Pin is def gonna be revealed, maybe at the party?

That's my hope.....a nice 7am flight out Saturday AM available, and I can salvage my work commitment ( if I don't drink too much Friday night...)...

#3312 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

7 am flights and drinking the night before usually don't end well for me! I hate it when work gets in the way of fun
I'm still trying to figure out a plan of attack myself.

You must find a way!!!......dealing with a buffalo trace " day after" right now.....

Completely agree.....red eyes from Vegas have hampered Monday morning meetings several times for me....work has to come first........and had some eyebrows raised when I said I couldn't make a key meeting on the 13th....no way I was going to tell them why....

#3313 5 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

I ordered some of those Omaha steaks once. Never had tried them before.

Omaha Steaks rock!!!.....best Christmas gift ever....clear your list in an hour, and never leave the couch....

#3315 5 years ago
Quoted from jkashani:

Putting a deposit on a game that you have not seen or played? Can anyone think of any other instance where that would happen with any product?

The garage door for my house was almost $7k from Home Depot ....had to pay IN FULL and took over 12 weeks to get it....all I had was a color brochure to stare at....that's a " homealogy" to debate....( door was great when it finally showed up, btw)

#3316 5 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

Never too early to pre-order...

Stop it!!!.....love those things....even the hamburgers in there are good too....

#3322 5 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

The meet and greet is supposed to include include an autographed photo of you and Adam. Wouldn't it make sense to have a game there to stand next to when you get your pic taken with him?
If Stern brought a box of the LE plaques they could slap whatever number is yours on it temporarily for the pic, then you would have a pic of you and Adam with "your" game. That would be a logical reason to have people commit to buying before the meet and greet.

Too logical, but I was hoping for something similar.....

#3323 5 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

That must have been some garage door.

Wasn't that amazing, but insulated, and fit the double car size requirements.....those damn things are expensive. If you ever price one, or a good front door, prepare to be bent over....

#3325 5 years ago
Quoted from jkashani:

You guys are nuts. How did you play with the Omaha Steaks?

Are you saying you don't like steaks? Careful, buddy....

#3329 5 years ago
Quoted from o-din:

I wonder if they will be serving steaks at the meat and greet.

Completely logical to me.....certainly offsets my $2k

#3331 5 years ago

Thread finally getting substance to it!!!

Shit...I love Quik too!!!

#3338 5 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

I don't know. I looked at Home Depot's site and the most expensive door was 4K. I assume they installed it too which would make it closer but still unbelievable. I would travel to NC if you paid me 3K to install a garage door.
I think you're being modest and that door was probably awesome looking.

Yep, Installed, and new auto open system with it. I suppose it's nice as garage doors go, came out of their special order catalog....I was just blown away when he told me " pay in full, upfront" and took so long to get. They did the same for my front and back doors too....those have the fancy, faceted glass in them....won't tell you what they cost, but same deal.

I can safely say I will enjoy this ( or any pinball machine) far more than what I paid for those fucking doors.....

#3344 5 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

There are some subdivisions that won't allow garage doors to be seen from the street. I'm into that. A standard white insulated garage door facing away from the road. Maybe spring for arch windows.

I'm isolated on some land, so no issues....didn't do the glass arches, as I was more concerned about security. Actually have bolts installed on the inside track ( removable of course) and remote open disabled unless I'm moving pins in and out.

It's obviously one of the 2 pin rooms in the lower level....

#3346 5 years ago
Quoted from iceman44:

Cars don't go in garages, pins do

EXACTLY!!! Cars much better suited to the elements than pins...pure, common sense .....

#3350 5 years ago
Quoted from Mr68:

Just got a super new garage door myself. I had to give Home Depot a non-refundable deposit and I wasn't allow to open it until after it was installed. It doesn't operate as well as I imagined from glimpse's of artwork but it does have a certificate of low production.
Its a piece of shit and I'm gonna sell it after the 18 month contract expires. In the meantime I'm telling everyone its the greatest garage door ever.

#3351 5 years ago
Quoted from Mr68:

Happy hour posting. Leave me alone.

Just saw this....curiosity retracted....my happy hour was last night.....have a headache from hell today, so I can't join in...

#3354 5 years ago
Quoted from dmbjunky:

I enjoyed his original post. It provided a good laugh.
You said there are bolts on the track of the garage door. Is that something for security? Is it different from the normal latches that you push through the slot of the track? Is this door more heavily insulated? I imagine it's a wood look on the outside. Sorry for the questions. Just piqued my interest.

Agreed....just confirming ( and contributing) light hearted sarcasm...nothing else to do in this thread for the next couple weeks....

Back to garage door land :

This door actually has no outside opening mechanism. Can only be opened via remote from outside. Inside there is a safety latch ( of course), but I actually have (4x) security bolts that run through the track, literally making the door impossible to open from the outside. I simply enable the remote and take the bolts out when I'm moving stuff in/out. Pretty secure. Someone could drive through it, I suppose, but that would be it.

It has extra, high density insulation in the panels that really keep the outside temps from getting in. Panels are sealed on the inside. Yes, wood textured look on the outside.

Pm if you want more info......boring stuff, even on an idle BM thread.....

#3436 5 years ago

Maybe a dumb question....when IS the VIP signing? I've been told 3-6 @ the WESTIN, but that would put Alien talk in the middle? Or is it at the Stern party that night? My distro said my name would be on VIP list at event...just seeing if anyone has a better grip on this than me...thanks...mark

#3454 5 years ago
Quoted from ViolinSteve:

Anyway, I think it sucks that the meet & greet is 3-6pm at the hotel and the Alien/Heighway launch is at 4pm. The Alien launch is an Expo event, the Adam West gig is a Stern event. Poor form.

Could be even more confusion, as I believe the Alien reveal is going to happen Thursday evening at the twin Peaks party (?). Is this at the hotel as well? Think this might conflict w JJP3 reveal? Any enlightenment would be appreciated. Another thread?

This is my first Pinball show, and am not in tune to where the "parties, etc." will be. I definitely want to see all 3 titles (hopefully get a chance to flip at least a couple, as well).

#3486 5 years ago
Quoted from labnip:

Did anyone request a specific LE # ?
if (yes), did you get charged more for it?
if ((yes) && (it was a low LE #)) did you get charged even more for it?

Not sure it was an option (I didn't ask for a specific #) ...only doing the meet and greet btw, didn't get tickets to the stern party (no biggie to me, so I'll be able to see more of the JJP thing).

#3504 5 years ago
Quoted from LTG:

Call your distributor.
LTG : )

Yep....mine said I'd be on a will call list at the show.....

#3518 5 years ago
Quoted from Nighthawk128:

I upvoted that comment because it's a joke right?

umm...I hope not...that IS what he told me.....

#3519 5 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

My distributor also said that there would be a list of people instead of physical tickets for meet and greet.

Whew...makes me feel better!!!!

#3529 5 years ago
Quoted from ATLpb:

Hey Mark, Don't let the typing on the internet get to you. My dist also said it's just a list of names.

Thanks....my previous reply never got posted for some reason:

a) I reached out to my distributer today, and he reconfirmed the " will call" list
b) He also stated machine would be at the meet and greet
c) Then reminded me to contact him after I saw it, to let him know if I wanted it or not. We would either stay the course, or he would refund my deposit. I'll be happy to share my thoughts to those that care ( and can't be there) after I see ( and hopefully play) it, but it would be just my personal take from an average ( at best) player, and fan of pinball, period.
d) Said there was a waiting list for the LE's , so all is good.

Hard to believe the deposits were simply to fund the meet and greet. This machine is expensive, and maybe they wanted to verify concept ( like the Alien deposit approach).

I'd like to think that Stern is capable of making an awesome machine, and this 30th Anniversery thing is a chance to prove it. Guess we'll see.

I do feel very comfortable with my position on this title in regards to the deposit.....fwiw....

No doubt....my excitement has been tempered w weariness on several fronts......at this point, I just want the games to come through on expectations......before I just say f**k it all, I'll just play what I have and move on.....be dropping whatever $$$ to go to this show...suspect I'll be "all in or all out" post experience.....

What if they suddenly decide to make another 240 LE's ?

If that happens, I drop my LE order in a heartbeat.....guaranteed....I will get a definitive answer from someone at the show, and call my distro immediately if the case....don't give a shit how the game plays or looks at that point.

LE's sold out, and there was a wait list, with many distributors not even able to get one. This is what I was told, read, and believed. Time to change the story is not AFTER people put 2k down......I'll just believe this is more Pinside BS, and ignore until next week.....

#3660 5 years ago
Quoted from ronaldvg:

The interview is with Gary stern and he says explicitely that there will be 80 SLE's. On the flyer is definately only 30 SLE's. That is what I think is BS and therefore I would not be surprised if they decided to also make more LE's. But that last comment comes solely from me as I think I also made clear in my original post and comes from being a little pi..ed off that they suddenly drop the fact that they are making more SLE's than announced.

I just posted on their site to see if they could provide clarity....

Stern has replied that there will only be 240LE's made....I'll choose to believe them.....

They also commented on the VIP meet and greet ( process for wristbands on a flyer posted)

Good info for us, I believe...

#3692 5 years ago

Definitely a suspect call, for sure......machine is going to have to kick ass period, or the dominos will definitely fall.

This is why I'm holding on until I see it later this week......all this weird ( non Stern type) hype has me hoping they have gone the extra mile with this one.....we will see......

#3813 5 years ago

Actually called my distro again.....he said he had no idea wtf they were doing w the SLE's (#'s or price point), but LE's were locked at 240 period.....and reassured me (again) that my deposit is completely refundable, if I didn't like the game.......reconfirmed he had a waiting list on the LE's, so this is the best I can go with.......

Then said a great thing...pinball is supposed to be fun!!!!...how true......

Quoted from Rondogg:

Stern needs to figure out a way to get into the used game market. They are missing out on the millions of dollars their games make in the secondary market. I'd bet 60,000 games change hands every year and Stern is leaving a lot of $$ on the table. A LOTR game that has changed hands half a dozen times only profits Stern for the first sale. I'm thinking they need to build is some sort of gps tracker chip that disables the game if it is moved more than 100' from your house. Call it a "Security Feature" that allows you to get your game back if stolen or lost. Then, the next owner has to pay $500 to get it updated and re-established for their own home.
Maybe install them on all games (Sega, DE, Stern) at shows and locations so they can capitalize on their back catalog of games? Maybe get the B/Wms license, they like money too, right?

Man, just walked in from work, opened Pinside , and saw this......must have hit the crack pipe before I left....am I reading this right?

Another idea: Stern "Home Route" line. Home purchased games "credit up" when you call a special "Collector's Line" and hit the number of credits using your dial pad. 10 cents a game, less for bulk purchases. They won't work otherwise. For $5 per game you can get full credits for a night in case you are having a party and don't want to be on the phone ordering credits and such. Maybe have a special "CEO Edition" where for an extra $10k you can have credits for life (unless you sell the machine then new credit charges/transfer fees apply).

What's happening here? I'm believing the sarcasm theory and will continue to drink.....

Quoted from DCFAN:

I am just referring to the money and where it should be going. The money should be going into expensive parts on the games, not all into Stern's pockets. Where is the extra $7000 going to be in this BM66 SLE they are planning. A typical LE such as Ghostbusters is around $8000 so the SLE must have $7000 more stuff in it, right?

AND THIS LE is $9500.00 so a higher bar already set (?), so in their mind, might be an extra $4500 worth of stuff....glad I'm going up there to be amazed (sarcasm I suspect, but hoping for something, anything, that will justify my optimism)....

My fear on the SLE is based on that "ultra limited" or whatever KISS pin, which only had an autographed card, and sold for crazy money (if anyone bought one).

Guess we will stay tuned to the bat channel for the next couple days.....

#3982 5 years ago
Quoted from wireframe:

Sorry forgot about the meet and greet. Yes it should be there and then at the party Friday night. Makes sense to let people see it who ostensibly already bought it. Curious though, if they made you wait a few more hours, would you really back out?

Not ostensibly, money out of my pocket in theirs. Not exactly sure who you are (just responding to be polite at this point), and have confidence that Stern and my distributor will do right by me. That being said......I'm not going to the Stern Party, so yes, I would cancel.

Ditto for me....and can tell you from standing in front of all 3, the LE is a very sweet package...definitely stands out over the premium. Believe Gomez referenced the " 120 episodes and 120 bat toys" that will distinguish the units. Also said there would be some " reference in some way" tying in voice clips or animation stuff that was unique to your model....I was still sleepy, and he was talking fast....

This really did have an LE feel to it that I liked, appearance wise.....can't wait to get more time around it at the meet and greet tomorrow...

I really appreciated the genuine positive attitude that Stern displayed through the show regarding this title. The factory tour would make GB people happy ( all hands on deck banging those out), but you could sense honest excitement from top to bottom in regards to BM66.

This will be a great machine to own, and glad I picked this as my first expo to attend..many thanks!!!

Trying to work out the different modes available on the new rotating centre thingo. Looks like 3 separate modes/shots.
Looks like the Batphone is just a couple of stand ups. But maybe to the right there is a shot:

Then the Bat cave/Bat computer looks like a mini TOTAN lamp style rotating spinner with the bat mobile on top. (Edit:maybe wishful thinking ...might not be a spinner - the circle looks just painted). And maybe something behind it if you shoot through it? Can't quite work that out:

Then the TV "Villian Vision" is a couple of angled stand ups, with a physical lock mechanism to the left. Which is a bit weird because the lock shot inserts are on the right loop:

The whole mechanism is pretty complex.

Just seeing these pics has me stoked for my LE!!!...definitely more than a reskin....

Does it really matter? The distributors do flipping now that Stern does not make it possible for regular folks to buy and sell for profit.
I am sure there are more. I have only done a 30 second search. Also, some distributors have not listed BM 66 for sale at all yet so several of them will likely have the LEs for sale later.

hmmm.....if there are only 240LE's being made, with half going overseas, how many do you really think are really available to flip? Maybe a handful?....whatever.

I'll be ready to PLAY mine when it gets here, if I can't stand it, I'll sell it...wash, rinse repeat...120 times (US)...

Price? a little late for that now (unless there's a rebate I'm unaware of......)

That's $16.2k last year, and I've got physicals and slightly cheaper generic meds to show for it.

I would define a rich person as one who has free cash flow far beyond monthly expenses and with little or no long term debt.

I think the comparison of " rich" vs. " wealth" applies best in this case. A " rich" person could be a pro athlete, actor, etc.
A " wealthy" person is the one that writes those checks.

Completely different ( I'm neither, btw, just fortunate to live comfortably, and able to afford a hobby that I enjoy)

#5402 4 years ago

Back on topic....I WANT SOME BM66 FLIPPING VIDEO!!!!!!

#5422 4 years ago
Quoted from Pinfactory2000:

True. All fisher price toys need are 'C' batteries to operate!

Umm...a bit more than that....believe the topper is truly interactive w different effects ( bat signal that can be rotated, and whatever)....hence the need for more control

#5429 4 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

I don't think the bat signal projector is motorized for movement or focusing. I saw George adjust the projector at the show and it was manually postioned and manually focused.
Maybe one board is needed for the projector and another to drive the beacon lights?
The beacon looked like it didn't actually rotate. I think is has several LED segments that alterately light that simulate a rotating beacon.

I think the bat signal projector is potentially motorized. George spoke to " the ability of it to move" at the factory. Maybe I misunderstood.

Suppose " interactive" will be subjective until we see the thing work....I'm rooting for the best, until proven otherwise

#5431 4 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

The hard part about motorizing it would be the variety of angles it can be positioned in. George pointed out that it can be positioned to face straight up to the ceiling or straight back to the back wall or to either side or anywhere inbetween. This was smart on Sterns part because everyone has different gameroom setups. It also has a focus ring on it so you could get it to focus regardless of the distance to whatever wall or ceiling surface you were pointing at.
I tried to get a decent pic of it at expo and it looks like its attached via a u shaped piece that is similar to telescope mount. It can swivel around (is that yaw?) And tilt up or down (pitch?) Then you rotate the whole tube part to orient the image point straight up on the surface (roll). Once positioned i'd think you'd want it to stay there.
It would make sense though for the game to flash on or off at the appropriate times during game play.
I like that the signal image is true to one from the tv show. A lot of the car mod led door projector things you see on ebay are a generic batman logo or from the nolan batman films. I've never seen one that used the tv show version like thos one does.

But doesn't it appear the entire assembly is sitting on a substantial housing? I'm not suggesting it has a programmable machine code, but certainly has a potential for something inside there. I guess in the actual show it only a single position skytracker.....would be cool if it actually was triggered on and moved to a couple presets, though....

#5433 4 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

I was assuming the metal thing its bolted onto was just a spacer to get it at the right height. If its high enough you could potentially aim it out towards the front so it would project onto the wall behind the player.
All we can due is speculate until Stern gives us more details.
Its too bad the projector isnt included with the topper for the LE. George said you can buy the projector separately for LE and Prem buyers, I'm sure it wont be cheap though.

Let me dream!!! .....I'm definitely getting that and the blade art for my LE.....is what it is, I guess

#5435 4 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

You misunderstood. You can move it manually so you can aim it on the wall, the ceiling, etc....they don't know how high your ceilings are or where you're going to place the game....so, you can manually position the bat signal exactly where you want it. It won't move around on its own.

Fair enough....dream crusher....

#5438 4 years ago
Quoted from someoneelse:

It has the boards for the same reason the GB topper has these two boards. The BM66 topper is just to small to fit them inside the housing.
It astounds me how much hope you guys still put into these kind of toys. Every time a new pins comes out pinsiders dream up the most ridiculous theories of what certain toys might do, just to be completely disappointed when reality catches up with them. Every single time!

I don't think a rotating beacon is a "ridiculous theory", just speculation on my part. I enjoy my pins, never " completely disappointed "....thank you for saving " us"

#5469 4 years ago

I'm good w my LE choice ( probably in the minority when I say I like the side cab art on the LE better than the SLE....I know it's 3D foil stuff, but I'll take the character/ callout layout for this one over the batmobile any day)

You are right. I just spent a fortune to go to Desert trip in Palm Springs. It's recreational money. Just sent my deposit in. Thanks. You are the man!

Exactly!!!....if your pins fall into that category ( mine do), they are actually cheap in comparison. Ops that buy these as income making machines would rightfully have a different take.

I take the family on a cruise once a year, and sponsor ( heavily) a youth soccer club. Both cost FAR more than any pin I own, but wouldn't trade the " return on investment" for anything.

Enjoy life when you can...money just a vehicle to facilitate....

#5510 4 years ago

You couldn't pay me to own a set of golf clubs......$5k for a putter? Some guys would fight to the death over it...no justifying that....just sayin' "price to play" has gone up everywhere, pinball no exception.....pick your poison....

#5514 4 years ago

Here's something we can sarcastically speculate....I contacted my distributor today and told him I wanted the beacon and pin blade art installed on my LE by the factory...he said it would happen. What do you think that's going to add?

#5517 4 years ago
Quoted from PW79:

It's strange IMO to defend BM66 pricing with examples of other completely silly scenarions.
Golf clubs, license plates, luxury watches, fancy cars, crack cocaine, tulip bulbs....
How does one ridiculous price validate another ridiculous price?
When my wife says "dont eat an entire order of crab rangoon & drink 6 Blue Moons" I dont reply "Its OK some guy weighs 500 lbs in South Dakota" lol

I'm not validating or justifying anything...simple comparisons...buy what you want, but overly inflated prices are not exclusive to pinball. I tire of higher prices period, but also tire of the never ending complaints. "We'll show them by not buying" nice thought....sort of like " if we stop snorting coke, they will stop smuggling it in"....demand there, product will be supplied. If pinball outprices its market, people won't buy them. But bitching won't change anything...please Stern, release some gameplay so the bitching can shift.

#5547 4 years ago
Quoted from RobT:

Can we stop with the bashing of those Pinsider's who have made the decision to buy a BM66 SLE (or LE even)? I mean seriously, just because the price might be too high for you doesn't justify telling another Pinsider that they are "dumb" for taking the plunge on a pin that they are obviously as excited as hell about buying.
Nothing like public shaming of fellow Pinsider's who are excited about buying a new pin just because it costs more than you (or even the majority of Pinsiders) think it is worth.

Completely agree, and thanks Rob for posting it. It never ceases to amaze me on the amount of venom on every aspect of every pin that goes on here ( supposedly a site for " enthusiasts").

Entitlement mentality on this site is getting pathetic. Hell, I wouldn't even care if particular version of a pin had FEATURES that were different ( that would DEFINITELY warrant a pricing change) What is so wrong with choices, differences, and hoping a Pinsider gets what they want?

I could buy this if BM'66 wasn't a significantly repurposed BDK playfield with (probably) repurposed code, too. It was not a ground-up effort. Also, The Hobbit is not a somewhat reskinned WoZ. The R&D comparison cannot be made.

Chances are code is going to be completely new ( new OS) as that was conveyed. I've seen / played BTDK, and while playfiled is laid out the same and crane still there, I can say the machines look nothing alike from an art standpoint, definitely not even close to a reskin...this is a redo, and looks great. Makes a BIG difference.

I had the advantage ( or disadvantage) of touring the Stern factory for the first time @ expo. The enthusiasm for this title was unbelievable...BM stuff everywhere, employees wearing the shirts, Gomez seemed genuine in his passion, Adam West signing, 30th anniversary, etc.

Asking an honest question ( as I've never bought nib Stern before): Has Stern ever shown this type of unilateral fanfare for another pin in recent memory? I know everyone wanted GB, but did they go to this extent? AC/DC? I've just never experienced it firsthand, so genuinely curious....

Source: talked to the man himself in person about it at Expo. Doubt he'd mind me sharing that.

This is great news, and what I had understood was happening, as well.

Quoted from RobT:

I don't think that the majority of people who are in the market for this $15k pin really care all that much about seeing a game play video.
They are buying it as a collectors item, top of the line, 80 of a kind, with a theme that truly appeals to them. They know exactly what it looks like, and we know that the layout is based on BDK. Combine that with the fact that Lyman is doing code, I don't think seeing a game play video is going to make or break many sales on the SLE.
I'm going to get a Premium and definitely want to see game play videos first, but even then, I really doubt that it is going to have a huge impact on whether I proceed with an order.

Tend to agree... I'm in on the LE, and rather them spend the time getting the game right ( flipping , code, etc.), as opposed to promising/ promoting stuff. They're all ( supposedly) gone anyway, and I'm not bailing unless after receipt, it sucks ( which seems unlikely)

Quoted from iceman44:

If Stern blows their 30th anniversary pin, first LCD, with Lyman on the code, great theme, and based on what I've already seen......
I'll be shocked, they won't.

Just got my " Batman 66 Complete TV series set on blu ray today" Awesome with Bourbon ( currently doing Stagg, 140proof, gets the job done).....happy thanksgiving, bat bros!!!

Technically, ""Batman, complete TV series" I added the "66" part...sue me...

It's so corny but brings back great childhood memories.

That's what I'm counting on

Quoted from Meegis:

I wonder what would happen if Stern releases a 4th edition of the pin well after sales have begun to give the license another boost.
Similar to releasing premium versions of games otherwise not supposed to, or something more exclusive like a luci. Or even better yet, just a color change like jjp and their hobbit black arrow edition.
Just curious how people will feel considering all the negativity that has brewed prior to the game even existing.

Not happening..

Quoted from bushz:

Got mine at movie web for $37.00 delivered. Watched 8 episodes so far. It's so corny but brings back great childhood memories.

Had time to watch 5 weeks worth ( 10 episodes) tonight....just great memories and fun!!!. Stern naming the LE's after the episode or batgadgets was genius. Watching them climb the bat rope straight " up" the side of buildings (obviously just a camera trick) still cracks me up, big time time!!! All the stuff campy fun, but was surprised how vivid the color was ( guessing they enhanced the blue ray version)....good stuff!!!

This is going to be a fun pin!!!

Quoted from Meegis:

Just curious how people will feel considering all the negativity that has brewed prior to the game even existing.

Think all the negativity focused around the price, mainly. Game does exist, and Stern not a startup, so it's being made, with some heavy hitters driving.

I feel fine, but thanks for all your concern for " us" ( guess this means you're not getting one)?

#5834 4 years ago
Quoted from Meegis:

I am not.
But you take my sentiment the wrong way. The game obviously exists in cabinet form, but so far (to our knowledge) isn't flippable. This doesn't mean it never will, I was just contrasting the negativity (more than just price) with the fact that Stern holds all the cards on this one.
People bending over backwards for something still not 100% tangible.
My opinion is mine to have, and I'm not concerned for anyone really. If the game comes out and is fantastic, than that's awesome. I was just speculating and asking how people would feel if Stern altered the lineup with more options. As it has already happened once with this game (30 sle vs 80) and has happened on other games made by them and other manufacturers.
You don't need to get your panties in a bunch because I said something you weren't fond of.

No offense taken or meant. Positive speculation can also exist. Moving from 30 to 80 isn't a " lineup change" simply Stern making more money based on demand ( and they are apparently gone anyway).

Stern always holds the cards on their games...if you don't like any aspect, don't buy, or dump it.

Your opinion is yours, mine is mine...no biggie. I just don't value my opinion as having absolute validity to anyone except....ME. But expressing it ( either way) is what makes the forum healthy.

Quoted from j_m_:

they were building harnesses back when they were giving tours during expo in october

I never saw the shark harnesses when I was there ( GB was cranking) I really like " shark" as a code name for drawings!!! "BM66" would have been just as easy....but shark just sounds deadly....this is going to be fun!!!

Quoted from jar155:

You can't expand pinball by selling fewer games and making machines that won't go on route. That will do the exact opposite.

So you're worried about the impact of " expanding pinball" ? Seems to be more titles and interest now than in recent past, and pinball itself is a very, very small segment of the home entertainment market. Value in the eye of the beholder...this has been beaten to death. I'm actually impressed that these companies have been able to identify and gain revenue from our small hobby. Business wise, it's a win, period ( believe it or not). Companies that don't sell things go out of business.

It seems your beef is with Stern in general. This is a BM66 thread...maybe start a thread about being done with Stern....oh, wait....

All good..I'm happy w my LE choice, and happy for people getting what THEY WANT, whatever that is ( this includes you, btw...life too short to bitch all the time)....

Just pics of Premium and LE from expo that I found on my phone....looks way better every time I remember seeing it in person...: ( just a refresher)

Premium or LE?
Just can't decide which art package I like better

I'm the oddball that likes the LE cab art better than the SLE. I know it's not the cool 3d foil stuff, but I'd rather have the drawn characters w sayings as opposed to the batmobile being that prominent. The LE looked GREAT in person!!!

Quoted from Banker:

Actually don't like their pricing, but want the pin , I spent considerably less on this hobby then what I used to spend
on high end sports cars. Priorities change , charities , grandchildrens needs, and selective needs of friends are most
important . What I spend on pins is no issue in the grand scheme of things.

Quoted from o-din:

I agree 100%. which is why I don't keep track.
Many are too concerned with what they do it seems. Or what it costs even if they don't. It's not like they have to buy any of it. If it worries them then maybe they shouldn't.

Man...2 of the best posts on Pinside, PERIOD....very well put..

Quoted from Mike_J:

It's amazing to me how much nicer the SLE looks as compared to the other two.
I guess you get what you pay for?

Oddly, when I saw all 3 of them in a row at the factory, the premium looked out of place. It wasn't just the topper.

The LE is a great looking machine. I'm going to have the blade art and beacon added to mine....should be perfect for me (?)

Just got notice from my distributor that LE's are shipping in the next 2 weeks!!!!!! Holy Cow, Batman!!!!

#6007 4 years ago
Quoted from Trekkie1978:

Who's your distributor?

Sorry guys....had some employees and a fellow pinsider over and just finished playing ( and drinking)...

Distributor is Mike @ Automated. He's always been a good guy to deal with for me.....email came today, right before I posted...

#6035 4 years ago
Quoted from Trekkie1978:

Is Automated the only distributor telling people 2 weeks?
Have other distributors starting asking for final payment? Have other distributors said 2 weeks?

I'd be curious of this as well, being Mike @ Automated told me when I put deposit down he hated taking money without having more details. We then talked a couple more times after, and he said not to worry about balance just yet, as it seemed it might take some time for these to get built.
This is all the more reason that I DO believe they ( LE's) are shipping in the 2 weeks when I got the email from April.
It would seem odd for them to send the letter otherwise, Automated is a major distrbutor and always been honest with me, and this pin/ release is anything but " the norm".
I'd like to think that we, on Pinside, have all the inside info. It's obviously more the exception to the rule ( although great " inside" stuff is revealed from time to time)

Just shared what was sent to me....I'll call Mike tomorrow and update after that.

I hope/ believe they are, but not the end of the world if not......

#6036 4 years ago
Quoted from Trekkie1978:

I read that LEs are first, then SLEs, then Premiums. There's only 240 LEs. Should take them no more than 2 weeks to get all the LEs shipped.

This is correct, and exactly what was unilaterally conveyed by Stern at the show ( all the Stern gang, including Gary, George, etc.)

#6098 4 years ago

Just got off the phone w Mike @ Automated ( he said he had tried calling me twice earlier after we spoke, but phone was busy)

Stern told him they are releasing gameplay video FRIDAY, and didn't want me to send my balance in until after I'd seen it ( I've still only got 2k in, and speaks volumes to Mikes credibility). Told him I was sending balance Friday or Monday, and he was way good with that. He also stated he had a long list of people wanting one of these, so he was good either way ( would still refund my 2k if I didn't want it).
Told him no way in hell was I backing out, and he laughed, assuring me my spot was good.

#6102 4 years ago
Quoted from Trekkie1978:

Did he give you a shipping date?

He said they told him they ( LE's) would be ready to ship in that 2 week window mentioned earlier. I have a feeling this one has been built and developed " behind the scenes " a bit...even though someone posted that after they went to the factory Friday, they were tempted to buy one.

Mike was super cool, and my gut tells me they show the game flipping Friday, and potentially heading out the door VERY shortly thereafter. I thanked him for sharing all this info, and he was very laid back about it all...implying that he sells a lot of arcade games, and they were much more a pain in the ass. Said pinball was meant to be fun, and he enjoyed selling them. Only if the customer was happy. To offer my 2k back this late in the game tells me 2 things: He wants me as comfortable as possible before dropping " big money" (his words), and that he had zero worries of selling it if I backed out.

This will be a great game, I'm confident......

Definitely a lot of work. Chris said he's been working on the gadget plaques over the last 3 months. I hope I get a gadget plaque instead of an episode plaque. Here's a post he made with a nice shot of the "portable ultraviolet batray". Based on his comments it sounds like Stern already gave him the heads up on gameplay reveal coming soon.

Very, very cool!!!

#6121 4 years ago
Quoted from ATLpb:

I'm kind of in topper unload mode at the moment. I'm getting an LE. I will consider removing my topper to sell to a premium buyer, if it is all possible. Just a heads up. Get it?
But hey. Mark says tmrw is the big surprise video day- maybe I'll see some crazy topper integration and want to keep it. (If the topper even makes an appearance... if we even get a video... if WWIII doesn't start overnight)

Hey, hey...just passing on what Mike was told by Stern...and KEEP YOUR TOPPER!!!.....

#6127 4 years ago
Quoted from docquest:

IF this version of the topper ends up being an SLE/LE exclusive. That might have a large impact on resale if you ever want to sell/trade it in the future. Just sayin.

Plus, this one really looks like it belongs on the game.....
