Because if they didn't, the people that bought the regular LE would be crying about how they thought they were buying the top model and Stern 'pulled the rug out from under them' when they found out there was a superior model.

I get what you're saying and I'm sure Hayne is/was a superb athlete but he was just plain awful in the NFL, he returned 8 punts and fumbled 3 of them during his illustrious 8 game NFL career. He was relegated to the practice squad halfway thru his only season in the NFL.

Poor comparison, we're talking about new pins holding most of their value or even going up in value. 40+ year old comics going up in value isn't close to the same thing.

I remember unboxing my SM and saying to my friend, "here goes $1000" because that's basically what it cost you to unbox a new game.

This, buying a new game, throwing a bunch of toys on it and then trying to get what you paid for it or more is a relatively new thing.
