Actually don't like their pricing, but want the pin , I spent considerably less on this hobby then what I used to spend
on high end sports cars. Priorities change , charities , grandchildrens needs, and selective needs of friends are most
important . What I spend on pins is no issue in the grand scheme of things.

I agree 100%. which is why I don't keep track.

Many are too concerned with what they do it seems. Or what it costs even if they don't. It's not like they have to buy any of it. If it worries them then maybe they shouldn't.

Wonder why the change from 8 ball to 6, or if the 6 is just a typo. Not to say 6 isn't enough. Honestly I think 5-6 is about the limit before you get too many balls in the way and can't even make on-the-fly shots anymore. Maybe they played 6 vs 8 and found 6 to be a better balance between fun, actually playing, and "whoa factor".

Those top quality balls that come with the machine do cost money, you know.

Just confirming if the bat boob topper would be readily available for purchase through Stern for the premium?

No one knows for sure.

At expo they said no, but as we all know Stern exercises their right to change their mind on previous decisions.

Just arrived. Quick glance suggests lots of great detail and awesome pics as well

Are you ready for it to be priced at $699 or higher?

There's no mention on the Pre flyer of a signed card by Adam. I thought the first 180 Pre were gonna be signed?

Not really, but it looks pretty good and I do place a lot of value on a nice rack!

Since there will be a lot premiums after 180 maybe they didnt want to put that on the flyer since most wont get it.

I have to say that SLE looks pretty damn amazing. Not $15K amazing (at least to me) but I have to hand it to Stern, it really is pretty damn sick overall.

#5969 1 year ago

I think that the LE looks best. Better cabinet and head art.

#5970 1 year ago

I love Alien and it has an edge because of theme for me and JJP WOZ and TH are beautiful but this thing is simply gorgeous, I like the 27" displays but I prefer what Stern has done, BM66 SLE might be the nicest pin I've ever seen, I think the gameplay is going to be great, the small LCD with villains taunting you and Lyman on code, damn

15235739_10154747935194244_6029093304820886436_o (resized).jpg

#5971 1 year ago

Look good and if money was no object would buy the SLE.....because I could and wouldn't care about the price.

Not sure though that I like the speaker panels on the LE. Guess it needs to be seen in person.

Still think the 95-97 B/W games had the best aesthetics of any modern SS game.

#5972 1 year ago

Ok we are 120 pages in now and all of the discussion is about pricing- I cant believe there is no gameplay video yet? WTF

Also the pin striping on the Super LE is a bad move. Even if Stern tries to clear coat, it will be highly susceptible to rubbing off easily, especially on top of the lock bar-What were they thinking?

People are going to have to mylar their games if they want to protect the pin-striping-lame

#5973 1 year ago

Upgraded order from a premium to LE, art package and translite on the LE is awesome and finally won me over, although all the models look simply stunning!

Although the pricing is mad (& so am I for buying one :D) IMO the upgrade from prem to LE is worth it.

You get some cool side rails and an some nice flake armour, signed card by Adam west is cool (I notice they don't mention those with the prems on the flyers) powder coated ramp is simple yet great touch and saves me paying to do both as I was planning to do both in my prem for some added colour, topper looks pretty cool and I'm not usually a fan of toppers but Sterns toppers are never cheap so I can see the extra $$ between the prem and LE.

It's amazing to me how much nicer the SLE looks as compared to the other two.

I guess you get what you pay for?

Can't wait for my LE. Eagerly looking forward to gameplay video. I wonder what the gadget selector will do.

For $15k, $5k over the LE, I would hope that the SLE looks the best, lol.

The speaker panel on the SLE looks awesome. I would think that LE owners can pull off the same affect by powder coating their speaker panel and adding the speaker grills.

It looks odd to me. I like DP's for a small LCD and Heighway and JJP for the larger display. I'm sure it's just cause it's different. It may take some getting used to.

It's funny I paid $5200 for a like-new Met pro plus color DMD and full chrome legs and rails.

I realize rich people don't care about money the same way but to me the SLE has very little value. Even if I was rich I still can't see why I'd rather have a SLE instead of a LE plus a Met pro.

Duh, it's because such rich people will already have what they want, be it in your example the MET Pro or more likely LE. This isn't rocket science.

Acrylic cut/powder coated speaker grills have been available from 3rd party vendors for a while now so I'm sure we will see some versions offered up by various sellers.

I ain't rich I work 2 jobs to buy what I want and I could afford a SLE but where as I see the value increase from the premium up to an LE, I don't see the value increase from the LE to SLE other than the super limited appeal (it's kind of in the name) but if that floats your boat then it's probably worth the extra 5k, personally I want to see the extra $$ in hardware and I see that on the LE over the premium which is why I upped my order from a premium to LE.

Just need those ramp flaps sorting out, for 10k it would be nice if Stern spent a little more time on the finishing touches.

- Why upgrade to ceramic brakes on a Porsche 911 (for $8500.00) when the standard brakes work fine?

- Why do hundreds of millions of people use iPhones and iPads when alternatives exist for a fraction of the price?

- Why spend $65.00 on a NY strip from DelFrisco's when the $19.99 NY Strip at Outback is the same weight and provides the same calories?

- Why spend $85.00/mo on a daily Starbucks coffee when you can make it at home (in a paper togo cup with lid) for about $12.00/mo?

Everyone makes financial choices in life to upgrade to premium products. We all probably do it 25 times per day without even realizing it. What may seem like a waste to me might make perfect sense to you and vice versa.

Oddly, when I saw all 3 of them in a row at the factory, the premium looked out of place. It wasn't just the topper.

The LE is a great looking machine. I'm going to have the blade art and beacon added to mine....should be perfect for me (?)

My brother always makes comments on how I can spend big money on pins and arcades/consoles etc. yet him and his wife just bought a 10,000 stove and an 8K dining room table, they like to cook and entertain but my Grandmother whos the best cook I've yet encountered managed to prepare glorious foods in small kitchen with a shitty stove and we ate it all off a generic style kitchen table, personally I wouldn't spend more than 1K on both a stove and table, that leaves me 17K to buy pinball machines, but to him its ridiculous, point is we all spend money on things other folks would deem a waste.

If you become rich then you probably would see, think of it like this what if you made 5K a week, would it be a big deal anymore? that's only 240,000 a year, well not only that's a lot, what about a 500K or a million? you can see how that 5000 hike to a SLE really doesn't matter, not to mention this pin will retain its value and if anything go up so it seems the only people who have an issue with this are those who can't afford it or aren't interested in the theme

#5990 1 year ago

No one can put a price on a hobby, especially this one. That's why I wouldn't blame Stern at this point to put out a $20K "Super Duper LE" because I am confident there would be buyers for it.. just don't keep jacking the prices of the 'regular' models for us 'regular' hobbyists. People who are into hobby's will spend big money as it puts a smile on their faces. Some people would literally shit themselves if they knew how much money I have blown on vehicles and other hobbys.. but you know what? The appreciation and fun I have had has been totally worth it.

Some people will think anyone spending $15K on this machine is stupid or they could have bought many other things instead.. but to those buyers spending the money they are super excited and feel like a kid on x-mas eve waiting for it. Buying a $8K premium + another $7K machine wont do it for them.. they want the $15K SLE and that's that. Let them spend their money on it and put a smile on their faces. Let Stern sell a $20K machine to that same person.. who cares what people blow their money on.

To answer your questions:

Q: Why upgrade to ceramic brakes on a Porsche 911 (for $8500.00) when the standard brakes work fine?

A: Carbon ceramics provide much better cooling characteristics for track use, and outperform standard brakes exponentially as they will not fade. Also, they can heat cycle many times before needing to be replaced- where standard steel brakes will need frequent replacement and will actually cost a track driver more over the long haul.. of course, unless you use your 911 for mall trips and weekend drives along the beach.

Q: Why do hundreds of millions of people use iPhones and iPads when alternatives exist for a fraction of the price?

A: Because other devices suck and do not work as well as their iPhone's and iPads

Q: Why spend $65.00 on a NY strip from DelFrisco's when the $19.99 NY Strip at Outback is the same weight and provides the same calories?

A: Because the $65.00 steak is likely a Prime cut that wasnt frozen, and was seared to perfection by a Chef who graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school.. and the $20 Outback steak (Choice cut, mind you) was thawed and pan seared by a guy who just was hired for a slight pay increase from his former Sizzler job.

Q: Why spend $85.00/mo on a daily Starbucks coffee when you can make it at home (in a paper togo cup with lid) for about $12.00/mo?

A: The prices of lids and cups are at least $15/month - and coffee is likely another $15-20/month. That means you are in $30-35 per month in costs of materials to make your own coffee, and for $50 more you get the pleasure of having a morning stop and someone else conveniently making you a cup of coffee.

Q: Why did I waste my time doing this?

A: I have no fucking clue

As informative as those answers where, I think it's a lot more simple, you way over thought them

Q: Why upgrade to ceramic brakes on a Porsche 911 (for $8500.00) when the standard brakes work fine?
A: They look cool!

Q: Why do hundreds of millions of people use iPhones and iPads when alternatives exist for a fraction of the price?

Q: Why spend $65.00 on a NY strip from DelFrisco's when the $19.99 NY Strip at Outback is the same weight and provides the same calories?
A: No idea on this one, I'm not American but I guess, it looks cool on the plate

Q: Why spend $85.00/mo on a daily Starbucks coffee when you can make it at home (in a paper togo cup with lid) for about $12.00/mo?
A: Those little cups look cool!

Q: Why did I waste my time doing this?
A: Because posting random rants on pinside is cool

It's simple though we all buy what we want because we think it's the coolest/best option out there, and we all like what we like regardless of price in most cases.

Like they say "you can't take your money with you" and aslong as we love pinball Stern won't let us

Personally 99% of the options in a Porsche catalog are overpriced maybe all of them. I'd just as soon get a Porsche less optioned and save money. However I wish some basic features were standard such as Bluetooth and Sat radio.

If I were getting a 911 the ceramic brakes would be first on my list of options to skip. I don't track the car so not necessary for basic street driving. I'm not worried about impressing other folks which some people with flashy stuff seem to be.

I'm not saying I can't afford SLE but I'd far rather get what $15k would buy in two pins or else maybe a premium or LE and save / invest the difference as investment assets grow and pay dividends forever.

I've bought stocks that have paid dividends for a decade, the dividends alone have paid the purchase price and more and the stock itself has doubled or tripled as well and will pay me for as long as I'm alive or until I sell them.

Now this is my problem, I am clueless about stocks and shares, I work hard and spend hard and when it comes to saving well lets just say Stern certainly do not help

#5998 1 year ago

when you can buy a pin for 8000 play it and then resell it 2 years later for 7000+, whats the big deal?
those 15,000 sle will probably hold their value 90 percent or even go up higher if the pin plays really good. if it sucks well look at what happened to kiss and wwe.

I don't think this pin is gonna suck and I think the code will be really good. it would really be embarrassing for a 15,000 sle pin to be released with weak code especially after all the problems with gb.

You don't have to be anything special to save / invest money, try to set aside something every paycheck as if you never earned it.

I like to say 10% but whatever you can afford.

Say your paycheck is $5k (try) to take out $500 or even $250 straight away and invest in (stock/ETF maybe bonds).

I bought a number of shares of MO for $18/share they're now worth $64/share plus pay me $2.2/year in dividend. That's freaking amazing, probably much better than if I had bought BBB for $5k when they were first sold.

By now MO could totally disappear (unlikely) and I'd still be way ahead.

That example probably is an outlier, most stocks won't do that well but usually darn well better than buying consumer goods or pinball machines.

The problem with hoping SLE will go up is Stern took away a lot of the headroom.

This is not a $5000 Tron LE or $6600 BIBLE the 'going up' price is already priced in.
