You need to get in there behind the head from either above or underfield and adjust the switch so it activates faster. This will either be an adjustment to the switch position (loosen the mounting screws that hold the plastic switch body in place and rotate/pivot the body so it "clicks" sooner.) or leaf blade positions (slightly bend the blade *that doesn't move* a tiny bit closer to the other one.
As a *last resort*, you can try bending the microswitch trip wire, but that can quickly lead to a dead switch and another 4 hours of tweaking...
Isn't it just a leaf switch (http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/515-7497-02-00) that may require adjusting?

I don't know...that's why I explained two options...should be an easy fix either way.
