Just got my Barracora up and running 99%.
I have one burnt up drop target coil. (SA 5-24 750 DC)
If I order this coil from Steve at PBR does it come with the diode or will I need to get one to put on myself?

It should say whether or not it comes with it, but for the cost, it never hurts to have a few extra 1N4001 / 4004 diodes on hand.

Thanks. I have a few 4004's on hand.
That would have been my next question.
Steve's web site does not have a photo or tell you if it comes with one that I can tell.

Make sure to note which way the diode band is put on the coil now if you have to add one to the new coil.

Just got my new coil in the mail, diode and all already installed.
Hooked it up and powered up the game.
Sure enough that coil energizes as soon as the power comes on.
The old coil was melted in the middle so some damage was probably caused on the board.
Checked my little instruction booklet and it says the driver for that coil is Q29.
Now I do not have a Driver Board schematic to I just took a guess that it is the same number as on my Laser Ball.
So I got out my meter and checked out the suspect Q29. It test just like all the other TIPS in that area.
Should I just change it anyway or might there be another cause for this drop target coil staying energized?

Any help is appreciated.
Even if someone just has a Driver Board schematic just to make sure I have the correct TIP would be helpful.

Holiday bump for any solid state techies sitting around with tons of time off.

It could be the pre-driver Q28, a 2N4401. When you say it tests like all the other TIPs in the area, do you mean known good ones?

Yes. Known Good ones. This is the only coil not behaving properly. I checked it against all TIP's in the same area.
Thanks for the help.

Just to finish up this thread. I replaced Q29 and Q28 and the coil now behaves like it should.
