IMO from the wiring I’ve done in life on projects and now my refurb….

In this picture, the red I would tape, yellow under the orange tape, the orange one looking at the bite I would cut and re solder with heat shrink, yellow brown in the upper is a definite cut solder heat shrink.

I read and bought the 60/40 rosin core to fix my wires (76 Bally cloth wrapped) and it’s not fun. Not sure if it’s the mouse pee that oxidized it but I’ve cut the wires back quite a bit and even scraped them with a razor to help the solder stick. I have my iron super hot as well. If you don’t own the helping hand with clips I recommend getting one.

Check at the local hardware store or lumber box stores for liquid tape - you paint it on, smells pretty strong, wait for it to dry. It's liquefied black electrical tape. Decent dielectric strength - good enough for pinball voltages.

I hear you. I've already used flux and had trouble soldering some wires. It's amazing to my how far down the wire that the urine must have traveled. I've been using my iron at 750. Maybe I need to turn it up some. I don't mind splicing wires, but I want to keep it as simple as I can.

Great idea for those little nips. Thanks!

In my whole life I've never seen this stuff. Thanks.

I'm going to grab some as soon as I get off work.

Quoted from SteveinTexas:

I would not use purple power for anything on a pinball. It will turn the metal plating black if left too long. Use the zep citrus degreaser diluted as a good general cleaner.

The ZEP degreaser does the same thing after a few hours.

Any updates? This is a cool project.

I am close to returning to it. A friend gave me a Night Rider EM complete lower cabinet. I'm going to use it to hopefully make the wiring repair much easier. Thanks for the interest. As soon as I get back on it I'll post an update.
