    When is is happening?

I'm in for a collectors edition with the fanciest dijon ketchup powder coat.

Perhaps these out of context quotes will get the fun and games going.

“We really didn’t know what we were making when we set out to make it,” singer-guitarist Ed Robertson says by phone. In fact, he likens the “Detour de Force” process to the Toronto quartet’s quadruple platinum 1998 album, “Stunt,” in terms of the way it shifted in progress."

“There’s also ‘Light Up My Room’ where the entire playfield goes completely dark and you have to hit targets to light it back up, ‘Pinch Me’ where you have to hit incoming underwear that pops up on moving drop targets or ‘Alcohol’ where the flippers become drunk and erratic but scoring is way easier. There’s a ‘Boomerang’ ballsaver, a ‘Who Needs Sleep’ multi-ball and you can increase your field multiplier by collecting chimpanzee postcards on drop targets around the playfield."

I’m surprised it hasn’t been produced or even rumored yet…especially with Ed being such a huge pinhead and with him recently collaborating on the Rush pin who knows, maybe it’s coming?…it’s as good a time as any and I’d definitely be interested for sure

    Love it!

There is no reason a lot of bands can't have a pinball if they want one if you follow that Primus type of model. Personally I think what would be fun is to reskin Beatles over and over again... why not? Beatles is a fun game, and honestly could be for any band especially a fun band like Bare Naked Ladies.

Stern should consider a reskin for Beatles for bands like Bare Naked Ladies and let the band promote the game. Why not? To develop a pinball for the international market you need a massive following I think. The development of a single pinball game could cost up to a million dollars. That's not cheap!

To reskin Beatles would cost less than 100k. Something Stern should consider for any band that wants a pinball game. The band could provide all their concert clips, CGI background clips, so you have some programming, editing and new art. Art overall can be supplied by the band.

    Makes sense to me!

Huge BNL fan. I challenge anyone on Pinside to claim they're a bigger fan. I've been tempted to send Ed a longwinded PM on here but have restrained myself.

Seen every tour starting with their US debut promoting Gordon when they opened for Stephen Stills in Avila Beach, California for the Salmon Enhancement benefit. I've never seen an opening band win over a crowd like they did that day. I own a physical copy of every release, including eps, Christmas fan club stuff, etc and would encourage everyone to pick up the vinyl version of "Silverball" for the pinball related poster alone. (The album is also excellent.) When Itunes was a thing, I owned most of the "Ships & Dips" concerts and I even own a few bootlegs.

I would be a day one LE buyer.

I'd like to believe that they asked Ed and he shrugged and said, "All my stuff's here anyway."

They could leak that it's going to be a Prince machine and then release a teaser one week prior with BNL's When Doves Cry.
Or, leak that it's an Anne Murray machine. So, so many options.

Lynyrd Skynyrd opening for the Stones in 1976:

"Thirty-one years on and I’ve never witnessed a crowd react to a support band in the same way that Knebworth did to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Somewhere between the first chorus and the second verse the band went from unknown names to full-fledged stars. “Skynyrd caused a real buzz backstage,” remembers Freddy Bannister. “We all wondered how anyone could follow them.” An hour later, we all began to wonder if anyone would even try."

If you don't play the pin for awhile it says:

It should come with unwanted over night guest mode... In the middle of the night it blasts, "who needs sleep?" and random and varying volumes. Then, after varying amont of times it says "you're never going to get it." maybe thow in some other random comments followed by, "did I say that out loud?"

    #13 2 years ago

I'm a fan and bought the CD when it came out. I knew who Ed was on Pinside by happenstance for a long time I guess, but I just always assumed he preferred to be anonymous here so not to be bothered so I never said anything just in case. I don't know a lot (any) famous people. lol

    Nice!

I saw him at a show once and couldn't get up the nerve to approach him even though I'm not the star struck type. He had a lot of people vying for his attention.

I did once approach Steven Page and Tyler Stewart for an autograph during the "Maybe You Should Drive" tour, much to Steven's dismay. (They both signed and he later apologized via Twitter.)

I'd be in on this for sure. I could also see Ed wanting to do his own theme pin.....he's a creative guy... I bet he has lots of ideas. Could see him writing his own music for it as well. With his experience now with Rush, I would bet there is already some thought about it.

    #23 2 years ago

Even though the song isn't about pinball, the lead single from their newest (amazing) album, Detour de Force would have to be included in the pin just for the title alone.

It would be awesome that everytime you hit the flipper button, you would hear the band yell "Flip!

I would argue that the biggest fan is the one who has seen BNL most often live… if you’re not in the 3 digits, you’re not even in the running!

Fair enough. I was talking about Pinsiders.

I prefer measuring fandom by quality over quantity

But I’m a big enough fan to realize I’m not the biggest fan out there.

What she said. There are multiple Pinsiders in the 3 digit show category.

I'm looking forward to the next teaser when it is announced that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are working on a secret project with Stern to release a new take on an old pin that is sure not to disappoint. They can drop hints about adult humor and long running cartoon... Then, we will all be surprised when the new Family Guy machine is released as produced by Parker and Stone. Then, they will announcing that Ed is working on a secret project. They will tease of giving us the pin we have all been waiting for... A "Barenaked Ladies-esque" home pin with all your favorite Canadian... Arrogant Worms songs.

I won't claim to be the number one fan for fear of being type cast as that Creepy Stalker Girl.

Great to hear! Didn't know there was so many Pinsiders with great taste. Happy to be wrong.

I would LOVE a BNL pinball so so much. I'm a huge fan and have been for...20ish years?

Good to know there's lots of other fans here. I suspected as much.

    Quoted from pingrrrl:

I won't claim to be the number one fan for fear of being type cast as that Creepy Stalker Girl.

In retrospect, my initial post did come across as a bit hyperbolic. My apologies. I sometimes have a tendency to get overly excited about music that I love.

On a side note, I used to gloat about seeing over 70 Dead and Dead related shows until people with hundreds under their belt would sigh and give me that "amateur" look.

Anyone else a huge Bruce Cockburn fan?

    Quoted from PismoArcade:

He approached me. Stopped in. Visited. He bought a machine from a local collector that was here, my internet provider delivered it the next day to Treasure Island casino where BNL was playing. They stuck it in the bottom of their tour bus.

Went out to eat. Then took him to his hotel. He invited us to the concert, I couldn't make it. My internet provider did after delivering the game. Had a great seat.

mnpinball was at the same show. Posted a picture on Facebook. I responded with look a bunch of rows to the front and wave to Greg.

It was a great time. A lot of fun.

I wonder how much money I would need to convince Stern to make one? Maybe something like $999,978.23?

It would be fun to see. I didn't meet the rest of the band. Ed is genuine, really nice. I've watched videos of their show. They love what they are doing and it relates well with the audience.

They were my all-time favorites to see live. Never saw a bad show! It was always just *fun.*

Has anyone here been to Steven's Live From Home concerts this last year?

Also, I sincerely hope there would be a KD topper.

    #36 2 years ago

Although I’m not a super fan, and haven’t seen them in concert; I do gotta say that I was in high school when Gordon came out and I could probably still sing that whole album word for word. I prefer their earlier work over the newer stuff and their cover of Lovers in a Dangerous Time is simply amazing. That song gives me all the feels, in a good way. I’m not one to get star struck, but it’s nice to see anyone take pride in their work and care in what they produce.

Any BNL pinball machine needs to have “This is me in grade 9” mode

    #37 2 years ago

    I want "Another Postcard" multi-ball...

    #38 2 years ago

Maybe BNL’s shared excitement over a pin in their name could reunite the band with Steven Page. It looked like there would be a chance after the one off at the 2018 Juno Awards, but it didn’t happen.

As great as their albums are, if you ever get to see them live, absolutely do so because their live shows are as fantastic, if not better. You can see their musicianship and that they actually are as talented as their albums sound (I think we all know plenty of artists who are, um, not) and they just have fun.

As DaWezl said, I’m a big enough fan to know I’m not the biggest fan, but I sure do love them.

I don’t know that I can see a BNL a pin ever happening though. Not that I wouldn’t love it, but I just don’t know that there’s a big enough audience for it.

There is hope. We just need some nudging and arm twisting...

"As the Rush machine rolls out, Robertson acknowledges that his appetite is whetted to do more games — maybe even one for BNL 'if I keep twisting [Stern's] arms, if I keep pressuring and threatening them, maybe.' But, Robertson adds, he'd be up for most anything in the future."

Check out the interview with Ed on the recent Loser Kid podcast. They ask him directly and spend time theorizing what such a game could look like...
