As of 9/12/14, the game is 99% SOLD and pending a pickup next week. Thanks

Banzai Run, made by Williams in 1988, only 1750 made. s/n #566. I bought this in 95' from Pinball Perfection in Pittsburgh (West View) PA, it has been with me ever since and not played much AT ALL in the last 14 years. Recently I had the cpu repaired due to the batteries leaking onto it (corrosion damage) and the ics replaced and a remote battery holder installed. Known issues: The bottom 2 LCD displays do not work, therefore you can't play 4 players. The top 2 work, playing 2 players is fine. I was told $275 to replace all the LCDs up there on top. The dirtbike that pulls the ball up to the top playing field has a coiled/springy wire in back. This wire is old, stretched out and lost its spring hence it sometimes gets caught in the back behind the upper playing field causing the hillclimb not to work. The LCDs then say 'hill closed' and the little dirtbike that pulls the ball up will not move. You can see this happen in the video, which is good because i want people to see it. If you pull the top playing field down and pull the wire out from where it got caught, all is good. This wire needs replaced so that you can continue to become 'king of the hill'. I took a bunch of pics. Those are the major issues if you would call it that. In any pictures you see my finger, I'm pointing out an issue, crack or shitty rubber bumper. The 3 large/round/red bumpers up by the 'spot' are missing rubber and don't react when the ball hits it, they do light up etc. There is a cracked piece of plastic to the left near the bottom of the hillclimb, see pic. A few other small pieces are cracked or missing, I didn't even notice till I went in and took close ups. I believe it has a diamond playing field, see pics, I'm no pinhead. The outside has some cosmetic damage/scratches and some wood chips, again, I took pics. Some pics of the internals will be in the comments section. After my last post just disappeared I'm not putting to many pics on at once. I'm in Pittsburgh, I don't want to ship this thing. Thanks, Kyle

OK, after seeing the pics 4k is a fair price, with some amount of wiggle up/down based on final inspection 9Maybe 3700 with the current unknowns/display issues).

If I was buying I would want to get it for 3300.

If I was selling... well, if it was me it would have fresh rubbers, flippers rebuilt, displays fixed, etc... so it woudl be worht a bit more.

The cab is pretty rough. Pf looks avg condition overall.

#11 9 years ago

Seeing those close up pics and still knowing it needs to be shopped and the displays fixed etc...., its a $4000 game like it sits. Fix the issues and shop it out right.....$4500.
Can I buy just that unbroken plastic above those yellow targets....? Drooooollll.

And out of price range
would have been a nice addition.
One day I'll find me a filthy one that's been sitting for years...

#13 9 years ago

I was very interested too, but at $4.5k I'm out.

I'm driving up to Detroit on Saturday....

I have to agree $3700 to $4000 seems like the right number considering condition. I passed on a super nice one a few months back for $4250 and I missed a nice one for $2700 a couple years ago. If I owned it I wouldn't pass up $3800 cash for it but seller has a right to ask what ever they want for a machine. Just my 2 cents from my experience.

#17 9 years ago

There is a nice one on a Mr. Pinball now for $3850 with a factory mylared playfield.

I'd think a shopped one would be lucky to hit 4k, whereas this one with the displays not even working.....

Then you think wrong. BR is a HOT title and this is one in nice shape to start with. Those two bottom displays not working is about a $100 fix if there both shot. But having that unbroken plastic would make up the difference in my book.

Isn't it the same one?

It's a nice game. At 4500, your missing quite a few potential sales. (Not me I already have one). The market will let you know. I would say lower due to the known issues, but that's your call as the seller.

Best of luck. This game will go to a new home and make someone happy.

That one on mr pinball sold for $1000 less than OP asking. I contacted him...

It has an XR7 playfield (desirable ), very cool game!

Could you explain the difference between this and the other BR playfields? Hard to find someone to work on these playfields . . . which may be stopping many from moving forward here.

#25 9 years ago

I believe it's the precursor to the diamond plate designation. Kind of like the prototype diamond plate playfield . ( not full Mylar sys.11)

Ah, so this is a playfield some of the restorers would work on . . . that does make a big difference to those thinking of doing a restore job. Thanks.

Thanks, I also had no clue as to this diamond plate stuff

Is there another way to tell the difference between them, then the XR7 written on the bottom of the playfields?

I've not seen it written on the bottom of the playfield in black marker before, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done that way too. Mine is written in red marker on the front and side edge of the playfield. It says "XR-7 Coating".

Really the only way is to look at the playfield and see if it has a clear glossy coating that isn't yellowed like normal sys11 games. Here are pictures of mine.

Sorry that the pictures aren't assembled as a slide show or something.

I will second this. The XR-7 that I saw had it written in red on the front edge.

Kyle, just an FYI since you're new to the site, when someone refers to "OP" that means Original Poster. In this post that is you! So if you would look at the edges of the playfield on your machine for "XR-7 Coating" written anywhere and take a picture of it and post it here that would help any potential buyers!

Apologies up front if you knew what OP meant. Being new I just wasnt sure if you did or not!

#37 9 years ago

I, too, have a Banzai Run with XR7 noted on the underside in black marker. It does not have it noted in red on the edge.

I have a photoset here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/crkochan/sets/72157632705461896/

The purpose of the set was to highlight the differences in LED bulbs vs regular, so I don't have a pic with large amounts of external lighting. That said, there is one of the lower playfield where you can see that the checker pattern hasn't yellowed at all, and there's been no insert wear.

#38 9 years ago

Does anyone now how many of the 1750 are made with the XR7 coating?

#39 9 years ago

Thanks, I was wondering about that OP thing. The machine is in my moms basement, has been for 14 years as I have no room for it, so I'll try to stop over and snag a pic.

The rumor that I heard was 10 XR-7's were made for testing wearability.

I also remember hearing from an ex-WMS employee about a "Lenc Smith top coat" that was tested, perhaps as part of that 10, or on a different, small set of 3.

I've heard 10 to 12 as well. I emailed Pat Lawlor about 6 or 7 years ago and he said he didn't remember how many were sent out for testing; so no help there. Anyways, with all the ones I've heard about (and others that seem to pop up) it sure seems like there are way more than that.

#42 9 years ago

I have an XR7 BR, which is written on the topside of the playfield underneath the apron area. There is no Mylar, no insert issues, no wear, no wood planking, and no yellowing of the colors. All the whites are still vibrant white, which looks nice with all the black and white checker pattern used on this game's artwork

When I spoke to pat Lawlor about production numbers some years ago, he said around 10 and very lucky find.

Free bump for the OP!

#43 9 years ago

Just to any prospective buyer out there on this machine, it is missing the black top edge glass trim for the playfield glass. I was able to find a far superior substitute through McMaster Carr. Unfortunately you have to buy 10' of the stuff at a time. That's enough to do 5 games, but you could recoup some of your cost selling the other 4 pieces. This has to be cut with a hacksaw as the piece that goes on the glass had a metal channel inside.

http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/120/3487/=toxkhj

Item is #12335A23 Style 17.

#44 9 years ago

Hey Schudel5, does that mean you have an extra piece of this laying around? Want to recoup some of your costs? I believe that trim is missing from my Banzai as well.

Dave

It is listed on the Pittsburgh Craigslist now. Good luck, OP!!!

I did back in 2006, but sold a couple and gave some away. I think I gave Dayhuff a spare one back then as well. I don't have any more unfortunately.

Dang it! Eight years too late...Maybe the buyer of this game will want to buy and cut the pieces and then sell one to me? If not, I guess I could do it myself.

Thanks,

Dave
