About to join the club tomorrow! Machine looks to be in very nice condition. Besides standard things to look at...anything specific to a BR I should keep a lookout for?

Fair going price for a clean player's condition machine with no playfield wear?

Thanks!

Joined the club! 2 hour drive near Antwerp, Belgium...rescued this BR from a gentleman who bought it for his son 20 years ago and it had been there ever since. Looks like it hasn't been played in 5+ years. Great transaction!

The good: the cabinet is near perfect with only a small 2" ding on the bottom of the head. Alkaline batteries look 10 years old but hadn't leaked at all. No playfield wear!

The bad: game is DIRTY...but that's how I like to buy them. Dirty and cheap! Mylar is bubbled over inserts and around pops. GI connector fried. A few plastics are cracked. PinballCenter here in Germany sells all of the plastics (separately).

The ugly: the upper playfield subway ramp is cracked at the bottom. A few inserts are slightly raised.

All stuff I've dealt with before. This is gonna be fun! Only other crappy thing is that I think my arcade ceiling is too low for me to open the head with the legs installed! That's a minor inconvenience....I have a BANZAI RUN!!

Happy to report that I was able to remove all of the delaminating & bubbled mylar with virtually no paint lifting. The playfield is in great condition with no wear at all.

I have re-leveled all of the raised inserts, repainted the black keylines, and cleared over the inserts. Tomorrow a few coats of wax and then reassembly can begin.

Restored my banzai run it took me 3 months but i can now join the club

Looks really great! Did you use cool white or sunlight white in that upper playfield?

Great collection BTW...we have similar tastes!

Quoted from Portyman:

I’m having an issue where the ball lifter drops the ball too early and it misses the ramp. Any idea what might cause it or how to fix it it, it seems to happen every time now,

Check the upper limit switch. It may be bent or misadjusted so it triggers the release too early. Just a guess though.

Just joined the club - going to do a bit of restoration on my cabinet which has some rough spots. I'm wondering if anyone has done anything to help the wear around the inside of the backbox where it rubs on the lower cab when you lower it or when you rotate the upper PF down. I'm getting lots of scuffs and scratches there since it's so tight...

I have the same issue on a few of my machines. I wonder if skid tape for surfboards or skateboards would work? A thin strip applied to the edge.

Does anyone have any pictures of the carrier tube assembly? Our game came with the carrier body(that swinks remade) but does not have the carrier tube assembly at all. No magnet core or any hardware. I have the part numbers listed below but have found nothing anywhere online. I appreciate any help!!!
Coil & Connector Assembly - A-12158
Magnet Core - 02-4340
Carrier Tube - 03-8167
Thanks,

Hi Shane,
Too difficult for me to open my own game...but here's some photos previously uploaded here by me or others. Hope these help.

Quoted from ryanwanger:

Anyone else have a problem with the ball getting stuck bouncing back and forth between the upper right pop and the rubber to the right of it (like in the right "orbit")?
Balls will frequently get caught endlessly in this area, bouncing back and forth 100+ times. Wouldn't be a problem if this was at home, but it's in a public arcade.
A few months ago, I replaced the rubber there and the problem went away, but after a few months, it has starting happening again.
I'm wondering what the correct rubbers are for this area. The manual isn't helpful. I've got one five inch big boy in there, but maybe I should be using two smaller rubbers? Attached is a pic. I added those three small rubbers behind the big one to try to influence the bounce more. The two on the right side of the pic did nothing but the one on the left side (on the metal post) does seem to have helped.
[quoted image]

I've never had a ball get stuck there. This is the rubber setup I used there when I shopped the game. Simple.

Your rubber choice may have created a "pocket"where the ball remains trapped and always rebounds to the same spot.

Another option is to use 2 smaller rings going around the bottom 3 posts and the top 3 posts.

Playfield is near mint but Mylar is a eyesore to me but too scared to peel it up lol

I removed the mylar from my BR about 2 years ago. I didn't lose any paint...but it is a huge job. I think I spent an hour removing the mylar and 10 hours removing the adhesive! I had a bunch of raised inserts and my mylar was bubbled so it was necessary on my machine. The colors look fantastic without the mylar, but it's a big commitment. I've seen where people claim it's a bad idea, but I've now removed it from Pinbot, Banzai, Creature, Whirlwind, Radical, and F-14 and only lost the insert decals on Whirlwind.

Congrats on your Banzai anyway...looks great! And you have a great collection btw. We have similar taste I think.

Is anyone able to share some decent photos of this trim so I can see how it works and if I might be able to get something made locally

Hi and congrats on the "new" Banzai! Here's a few photos. The black strip should be pretty easy to make. Just covers the back edge of the glass with an angled section to sit against the metal strip on the lower edge of the upper pf glass. Good luck!

Here you go! The colors are a bit faded on mine, but hope this works.

Can anyone with the correct glass channel please post some pictures?
I know someone who want to try recreate it. Measurements would be very helpful.
Thanks.

Hi! Do you mean the plastic trim piece, or the metal channel? I posted #478 above with photos of the black plastic channel. Should be very easy to make.

The metal channel has already been documented with photos, measurements, and drawings in the following post:

Good luck!

A little problem has started on my game. On the upper playfield, in between the flippers, the post seems to pop out 3 times and doesn't go back down. After 3 pops, it stops. I found one thing online about a spring missing, but mine has the spring. In test mode, the switch works. Anyone have any other info on how this mechanism works? Its annoying but I can still play the game so not a horrible issue. I have a big tournament new years eve so want to get this working normally. Thats the only issue in my lineup currently.

That's weird. If you machine pops 3 times, then the post would be left in the UP position. The center post mech on Banzai uses the same mech as Radicals X-ramp diverter, Earthshaker's CA/NV diverter...just a coil which fires and sets or resets the mech. The coil should only fire once to pop the center post out, then the coil should fire once more to stow the center post. In the mech there's a small spring which helps guide the black plastic shoe to move one direction, then the other. Maybe it has broken or is missing. You can barely see it in the picture here. It's hooked to the top of that black plastic piece. If this mech isn't working properly then the center post won't stay out properly.

Has anyone had a problem with pop bumper fuse going out frequently ? Has anyone put in a fuse with a little higher value?

Replace the coil diode and see if the issue persists. Also, ohm out the coil when the diode is removed and make sure you dont have a coil issue. Next, have you checked the pop bumper switch stack to make sure there aren't any shorts and/or the switch tabs aren't bent over? Also, I can't remember if there's a capacitor or diode on those switches. Would be worth testing those out, or just change them.

I wouldn't recommend going for a higher Amp fuse, that's asking for trouble.

Quoted from Squeakman:

I have video but can’t download it here. I picked up this Banzai three weeks ago and the only real problem with it is when I’m goin for #1 or king of the hill the lock light lights up in the upper playfield and the ball locks on the kicker just below the little flipper. Is this supposed to be happening? I thought you were supposed to go through normal progression and lock the ball in lower playfield saucer and then go to the top to get multiball? On mine it kicks a ball into the shooter lane and as soon as you plunge the ball in the upper playfield just kicks out and falls to the lower playfield. I can hear a clicking from time to time like maybe a stuck switch or something but I can’t pinpoint it. Any ideas at all on how to troubleshoot this? I hope this isn’t confusing and can send anyone the video if it helps.

This is normal behavior. After you complete all 4 racers on the upper PF, then you need to lock a ball in the upper PF LOCK area. Then you get another ball in the shooter lane and the machine says "He's challenged the King". Now, after you shoot this 2nd ball into the lower playfield and any switch is closed, the game will then eject the UPPER locked ball. Now you will have 2 balls on the lower PF! You need to lock one of these in the lower saucer hole above the pops. THEN, you need to shoot the other ball back up to the upper PF, and make it to the top, and defeat the King at the top captive ball shot! Really difficult!! You can see me do this recently on my BR walkthrough video I made (22:30).
