My friends and I have attended almost all of the Banning events, it's simply a wonderland of Pinball and Video Game history.

The pictures don't do it justice. Thanks to John and the dozens of others that created and supported the museum of pinball.

All of us in our crew are pulling for good news.
Cheers.

One of the main problems was the Banning city council would not allow John to open more than a few weekends a year.
I don't know exactly what the council's big objection was, but part of it was the Municipal Airport across the street.
An airport that I never saw a single cesna land or take off.
Lots of red tape small town BULLSHIT.

Its actually a small miracle it lasted this long, as said above, the museum was only starting to break even toward the end in 2019.
Then the world stopped.

Cheers to John and the crew, it was magical while it lasted.

Quoted from xsvtoys:

There are 3 specific machines that I played there a lot and would not mind having. So I would appreciate it if you peckerwoods would all refrain from bidding those up on me. And no I am not going to name them here!!!!!!!!!

This auction will create lifelong blood enemies.
Good luck!
See you guys in Banning. Cash on glass wins.

Captains Auctions often go late, I've been there at 1:30 am.
They always sell the Pins together.

The more bids per game the longer the auction, get ready for six very long days.

#447 2 years ago

Just a guess...
Day 1. Electromechanicals.
Day 2. Solid States.
Day 3. DMD to moderns.

Then 3 days of vids.

Simple, sell them in the order they stand on the floor.
Why complicate it.

#503 2 years ago

Nope, the seller only pays $25 or so fee, to buy his own game, bidding it up.
If the seller gets stuck as high bidder, he pays $25, and sticks it in the next months auction.

It's a crap policy.
Should be illegal.

I've only bought 2 games in 10 years in the hobby, from Captains.
Mostly because of this buyback policy.

#546 2 years ago

Remember the first day of auction kicks off at 3:00 PM.
So it's a short one.
Sat sun, will be all day affairs.

I've heard through sources that all the floor games will be sold the first weekend.

Then the doubles, and project games/parts will be sold the second weekend.

Could be true, or not so....

#561 2 years ago

The bulk of EM, and SS were listed on the Auction website.
No new pictures yet.
All of the rarer SS are there, so it looks like the collection is intact, and not scalped.

Still missing a few William's SS early 80's, and the Zacarias. And the Bally Skateball is missing?

1 week later
#589 2 years ago

Yes, 99% of the floor games are now listed.
And a few more, apparently John kept buying through covid.
There is a walk through video on captains facebook up now.
They wedged in dozens of games into the center of the aisles.

And Yes Banning is nothing but a place to stop for Gas, then get the hell out, on the way to civilization.
Remember the first thing you see getting off the freeway is a Bail Bonds business.

#594 2 years ago

A handful of games were loaners, until John could find a copy.
Also many games were brought in for indisc, by that crew.
But it looks like 99.9 are there.
A friend of mine picked up some games last week that he had loaned to John, but they were in storage.

Man that walk through is just depressing.
Seeing the Museum fall apart is just awful.

#596 2 years ago

Only 1850 Frontiers built, how many survived?
From what I've heard people dig this game.
I've never seen one for sale in Socal.
So its semi rare.
I have only played it once, so jury is out for me.

The 6801 System Eight Ball Deluxe:
[quoted image][quoted image]

Yeah, yeah. We know, blue displays also.
Sssshhhh.

#642 2 years ago

Here is some hard info on buying from Captains.
This is from my receipt from a Pin I bought last year.
I bought it online due to The Plague.
Hammer price was $ 3,800
15% buyers premium, AKA THE VIG $ 570
Tax $ 338
Total $4700 or so.
Close enough.!
My friend and I went and picked it up at midnight. And I paid in Cashy Money.

The all in costs are about 25% above Hammer price.
Not including say $400 shipping.
So say 26 or 27 % VIG with shipping.

Hope this helps with your bidding.
It's easy to go way over what your willing to spend.

#643 2 years ago
Quoted from girloveswaffles:

It's more than just "Blue displays. You can keep high scores and you initials, and the displays are alpha-numeric. No DIP switches. Programming done through a keypad. This system eventually evolved into the 6803 system.
The playfield was plastic as well.

Yeah, yeah, just like a person from Norwalk, We were taught to keep it to ourselves, growing up in La Mirada.

Like I said......sssshhhhhhh.

#699 2 years ago

Yes a handful of games were loaners, several of my friends have gone and retrieved their games.

#738 2 years ago

Yeah, a non pin/arcade friend called me today, and asked if I'd heard about the museum auction.
It's all over local radio/tv.

Crappers.

Nothing to see Here !!!!!

#1475 2 years ago

Yeah, no Facebook stream or Twitch.
Smart of then to hide the crime.

#1502 2 years ago

Back in 1985 my friends and I went to the Downey Minature Golf and Puke to play specificly Thayers Quest, we had no clue how to but we had to try it.

#1510 2 years ago

I talked to a friend that is there now, captains has kicked off all non bidders from the website, and no Facebook or Twitch, and the feed is still crashing.
Yikes.

#1525 2 years ago

YouTube live stream
TwistedGaming tv, is streaming, and commenting on the auction .
Only 40 viewers so far.....

#1530 2 years ago

Banning is a dusty hell hole crossroads town, there are multiple abandoned buildings on main street, and I counted four Burned out buildings also on main street Yesterday.

Good riddance, now I never have to go to Banning EVER AGAIN.

#1539 2 years ago

If your bored there is a live Texas horse auction on YouTube right now.
Looks like it's at the TPF ballroom by the cover picture.

Quoted from Agent_Hero:Almost won that Nine Ball...

Sorry on the Nine Ball, it's my favorite Stern.
Hope you find one.

#2728 2 years ago

Yeah, most of the pins are player condition or a little nicer.
The Firepower is gorgeous and the Flash.
Both restored.

#2735 2 years ago

The Firepower 2 is a total wreck, avoid unless you want a project.
The Worlock never worked, and is pretty beat.

#2768 2 years ago

WTF!?

#2778 2 years ago

Maybe someone is looking to open a new museum here and paying stupid prices?

Problem is I hate their tastes.

#2819 2 years ago

The Embryon has wear by the upper flipper and the techs were always working on it, that's why they did not use it in tournaments.

#2857 2 years ago

Flip flop $4200???????
I got the Stern Nine Ball for $3800?
What the hell?

#2862 2 years ago

Quoted from Knxwledge:

Woah hold on I just found something strange, if you filter by games that haven't sold yet, 3 games that apparently already sold are there (Spirit, Gold Cue, Medusa). Anyone know what happened with these?

Sounds like they backed out somehow, or were not legitimate bids?
With so many lots, you got to expect a few dropouts. Technical or otherwise.

Yes, I got the Stern 9 Ball.

#3054 2 years ago
Quoted from palmab03:

If they go ahead and adjust the cap gains tax rate, I wonder the effect on the price of pins. Taking a loss on a machine doesn't hurt as bad if half the losses can just offset taxes.......

Is that town you live in off Zzzzyyyxxx road?

#3055 2 years ago

5 days to pick up, I'm aiming for tuesday.

#3062 2 years ago

I'm paying cash, and taking it to OC. Thanks for the offer though.

#3080 2 years ago
Quoted from bobmathuse:

Ever see Huell's episode on the true story of Zzyzx?

No missed that one, I'll look it up if I can.
Landcrab nearby though.

#3083 2 years ago
Quoted from dsupica:

Ok. Well if i knew ANYWHERE I could buy one for $700 then I am certain I would have already purchased it.
Do you know a place or person that sells for $700 because maybe I would like to have a spare machine?

If you love the game, no worries.
I've got real deals on 1/3 of my games.
Paid market prices for 1/3.
And overpaid for the remaining 1/3.

I call it a wash, I'm well in the black with current prices.

#3155 2 years ago
Quoted from Knxwledge:

Think I remember them saying Gene Lewin bought the Pole Position cockpit for $1600. Excited(?) to see the oddball stuff in 2 weeks. I wonder what theyre gonna do with the storage areas that were full of games/projects?

They got two weeks to pull what's left in storage, shine up the junk, and add it to the list.
After this weekend's local buyers truck away their games.

#3158 2 years ago

Mystery grab bags perhaps?
Comic book stores do it all the time .
Who knows.......

#3164 2 years ago

Can't wait for the next Slam Tilt episode, they might have a stroke on air.

#3335 2 years ago

Locals can pay Cash, I always do.
Then haul away my game.

#3340 2 years ago

From what I saw on clav 3 biders won 149 games.

Bet they are destined for shipping containers destination...... unknown.

#3342 2 years ago

Easy fix.. ....Right.
It took my friends and I a year and a half to track down the issue with his Haunted House.

I took a video walk around before they starting moving things around for sale. I collecting what I can and will put it up on archive.org. If anyone has anything (picture, video, etc), and would like it archives forever, please PM me.

Check out The Brotherhood of pinball, channel on YouTube, there is a good walkthrough of arcade expo 4.0.
And the other vids are fun too.

Played Krull Video Game tonight, at my friends.
No.... it's not very good, but interesting.
Would love to play the pin someday.

#3492 2 years ago

Captains is going to at add a 7th day to the auction, this will probably consist on the project games, parts, and other oddball stuff.
No announcement on day of the auction yet.

#3535 2 years ago

The Real question is....

Does Bugs Bunney go for more than Rocky?????

Whoever these buyers are, I would not be surprised.

Quoted from Heretic_9:

TNA will be up shortly. That is the first title from Spooky that I thought was any good -- and it's pretty good. What condition was the MOP's table in ? Am I correct in my impression that there is very little -- mechanical or otherwise -- that is apt to develop problems in need of fixing on this game ?

The optos in the lock drops are the only thing I've had a problem with, replaced a couple, and had no further problems. Mine was #62 NIB.

Seems like Noah's was about where the Albertsons is now.

Just about... The Mall was doomed from the beginning, after the Woolworths closed in 1980 they had no anchor stores. Noah's, the Theatres, the food court and the Mexican restaurant were the only open businesses by 1989. Then bulldozed in 1991.

Noah's was closer to the post office and would be around where Riviera Lane is. probably in somebody's bedroom now.
Jaws was by the entrance and you could hear the BWOING!!!! All through the mall. Touch Me got moved to the upper deck to preserve our sanity.

The upper deck! I was the fool putting quarters in Omega Race and Armour Attack in 1988.

#4310 2 years ago
Quoted from Quartermaster:

That's how I felt at Banning, I once walked through and counted anytime I passed a title that I had owned before. I was astounded at the number of EM's and separately SS machines I didn't count videos it was just eye opening. Again we are among a lucky lot.

Poor, poor Firetruck.

#4376 2 years ago

I bought a nice Firepower in Upland.
Thanks for the work on the list of prices.
Cheers.

#4438 2 years ago
Quoted from Quartermaster:

Wow, Eric those pictures really hit home, seeing the dismantling makes it pretty real (or surreal) RIP MOP
It also got me thinking about something I mused before. What are some games that we never saw at the Museum ? A few titles that I've longed for at MOP (and haven't seen anywhere else in a long long time) come to mind. These were production games not just one-off or prototypes.
Oh what I wouldn't give to get a few of you guys together for a rousing round of TECMO BOWL!!! Goofy as hell, but loads of fun.
How about a personal favorite Ramtek Clean Sweep,
Midway "Wheels" or Wheels II
Sega Gain Ground, or Crackdown,
Atari Touch Me,
Midway's Amazing Maze,
Atari Jaws
Maybe some were there and I just didn't see them , what can you add to that list?

Sprint 8 or indy 800
Omega Race cockpit
Atari Baseball just like the roller ball football
Atari 4 player Demolition Derby
Woodrails!
Drag Race
Boot Hill, the first game I ever played at Noah's.

There were only a handful of games that were not payed for.
The Joust video game that sold for $5000, was not finalized. That's the only one I know of.
The rest of the stuff is new, from storage or Johns private stuff.

Someone from Arizona ended up with 3 or 4 trailer trucks of games. So a lot of the collection actually stayed somewhat local.

They had been out of floor space the last several years, maybe it got pulled from the floor to make space???

Quoted from Heretic_9:

Yes, surprisingly good condition.
Are those "scoring-drain-holes-of-no-return", a la Slick Chick ? (Can't recall the proper nomenclature.)
NV once assured me that there was in fact a cradling technique for earlier EMS with those tiny flippers, and who am I to question his authority on such things . . . ? But, you, know, I'd just have to see a demo on that before I'm convinced.

Don't know their official nomenclature, the ball goes into the saucer, then is passed to the next saucer, left to right, until it reaches the last D saucer. Then it kicks the ball across and down to the left flipper..
So if you get the ball in the A saucer it hops across one at a time to all four, then to left flipper.

Really a advanced feature for 1965. Especially since the holes scoring is tied to a random roulette mech, that is randomized by hitting the stand up targets, or the upper roll through lanes.
It really is a feature stacked game for 65.

Hummingbirds go into an almost hibernating state at night to conserve energy.

I have one, maybe two bats here in the neighborhood, I hear them circling at night gobbling up the flying bugs.

Squeaking all the while. Echo location!

Anyway heres are pictures of Banning games to stay on topic.

Paradise came with the work logs from the techs at banning.
I'll quote one entry.

"Do not turn on. Lots of Smoke!"

We set it up, and no dice.
No power, nothing.
Checked all fuses, checked the cord, 45 minutes of no joy.
We were stumped.

Then started looking at the coin door.

Idiots!!! Gottliebs won't turn on without CREDITS!!!
EM rookies.

Coined it up, and it works perfectly.
The techs obviously worked on it and dialed it in.
I'll see what I can do about a clear picture of my favorite Pinball gal.

No go on the picture for now, all access to the backbox is from the back of the head.
Metal door on back, then you have to fold down all the EM scoring reels, its a two man Job.
I ain't messing with that rats nest alone.
The Hula Girl is part of the mech, so it would all have to be removed.

Here she is lit up with faint flickering bulb.
I'm cloaked in a moving blanket to reduce the glare.
Wierd hobby.

The second Picture above is My Stern Nine Ball currently bieng shopped.
I scored it at the Banning auction
In the pic you see the new drops installed.
Replacement stand up target, leds, and Blue Xpin scores are to be installed next.

Will be finished and at my friends arcade party October 30th.
I cant wait!
Nine Ball was my top Grail game.

As for the Hummingbird feeders, the only worry is Ants, the feeders are designed for the long beak and tongue of Hummingbirds.
The feeding holes are tiny.
I also use bent coat hangers to extend them lower.
I use simple screw in hooks, which also work for my large c9 Christmas lights.
No Staples!!
The picture was taken sitting down, so the angle looks more extreme than reality.

Also I'm 6 foot 7 inches tall, so I can reach farther than you mere mortals.

Message from the Head in the clouds Freeeek Kingdom.

Just spray a touch of ant killer on the hook and they Fook off.
We got Owls, Bats, Red Tailed Hawks, Oreals , occasional Blue Birds " those Blues are gigantic, they act like Raptors, you can see the Dinosaur lineage." And several species of Hummers, some migrate to Mexico, but a few stick out the winter.
The Hawks are a terror to the ground Squirrels, which are real pests here.
The Hawks sit on that palm Tree ledge in the photo, then swoop down on the Squirrels.
Then sit in the pine tree and shred em up.
Then the Raccoons carry off the discarded Squirrels heads in the night.

Ah the circle of life.....

And a Banning photo to keep on topic.

These prices were back to normal average Captains Auctions.
No New York Times Story's telling the world Pinball/video games for sale!

That Desert Patrol looked cool, love all the early era Video games, most of the early pre Space Invader history has been lost and forgotten.

Anyone who has been in this hobby for more than a minute, knows Spooky developes the Code as the game is being built and shipped.

Most Halloween Ultraman owners, 95% of them won't get thier machine until sometime in 2022.

My first 3 NIB were Spooky games, TNA, Alice, and Rick and Morty.
The finished code on all three is great.
Scott D still has cool ideas that he wants to add to TNA.

Anyone who dumps their Halloween Ultraman at this point are tantruming Babys.

Pretty pathetic.
