Quoted from Rarehero:

This thing just feels scammy….and after the WATA/Heritage collusion, it wouldn’t shock me if something unethical or illegal was going on here.

Do you suspect the final bids are fake? Or just that there’s shill bidding going on? If the final bids are fake what’s the angle (seems like they’re just failing to sell their games then)?

Here's an ad in yesterday's Las Vegas newspaper.

I'll have to remember that "machines on ebay are $6,000" line for my next FS ad.

Did you finally get around to reading the Davinci Code? Regardless, it appears that the whiskey is, in this case, working.

Quoted from mbwalker:

Weren't some of the pins donated to the museum? But John benefited from the sale in the end? So were they donated to John?

This question has been raised a number of times in this thread, and the consensus from local people that actually know the museum seems to be that no pins were donate to the museum (or to John), but that the museum was instead a display of his personal collection which he purchased and owned outright. Like you I don't know anything about this situation beyond what I've read in this thread, but I would think that if John were auctioning off games that were donated to him or to the museum, we'd have heard from some unhappy donors by now.

Quoted from Neal_W:

Instead of CNN and NY Times reporting about the massive pinball/arcade auction, they will be reporting about the shocked and disappointed buyers who overpaid

"Local Man Regrets Overbidding at Auction" doesn't have the ring of "World's Largest Pinball Collection Hits the Auction Block."

Quoted from NicoVolta:

Meanwhile... on Amazon... the Timex Weekender Pacman is only $42.

Thanks for the heads-up, just ordered one! This should tide me over until Claytor's pinball watch comes back on the market!

Quoted from flynnibus:

it's unfair to let anyone claim 'losses' when they are never behaving like they are trying to make a profit in the first place.

Wait, are we talking about a Vice News story or a tax audit?
