Quoted from NicerSoul:What excuse am I ever going to have to eat at Gramma's Country Kitchen again??!? Best cream pies in town![quoted image]
The best place that was nearby to eat.
Quoted from gonzo73:An airport that I never saw a single cesna land or take off.
Lots of red tape small town BULLSHIT.
Its actually a small miracle it lasted this long, as said above, the museum was only starting to break even toward the end in 2019.
Then the world stopped.
Cheers to John and the crew, it was magical while it lasted.
Indeed. Banning is (unfortunately) going to be a ghost town now. In terms of pinball.
Their airport must be far more important than the pinball museum to them. I never saw a single plane take off or land. But the fees probably remain.
It’s too bad i thought it was here to stay.
This Means we need another arcade here in so cal. (To me.)
I will of course, miss banning. Hope to attend any auction.
Quoted from Heretic_9:Azmodeus,
Greatly enjoyed seeing you and other pinfans I knew at several past MoP events.
Also rather sad to see some Pinside members opening fire in various directions in this thread, with scant point or justification. (Talk about irrelevance . . . .)
Some mostly overlooked but important topics here that flow from this, like what becomes of INDISC, which had grown considerably over the last few years ? Hard to imagine it shrinking back to a bowling alley.
Thank you.
I am greatly saddened by the closing of the museum.
I am pretty sure it helped save my life. They did a benefit there when I had my stroke and three brain surgeries five years ago.
So it is with great great sadness I see all of this happen. Please allow me to share some of my memories.
Such good memories. I thought it was here to stay now. I thought I wasn’t that upset and then my fiancée told me it’s all I have been talking about for two days.
I met John weeks at California extreme about seven years ago. He was very friendly and aimed to open banning.
The rest became history. He opened it. It became our place here in the Los Angeles area. Very nice.
I hope that John is able to pursue his dreams, as he has helped me pursue my own. By helping save my very life.
Pinball saved my life. The banning museum helped. Fully.
By the way, if anyone has any pictures of the charity events that saved me, please send them to me.
Thanks. I heard there will be an auction. I hope to attend.
My last comment. John weeks is a helluva nice guy. I hope he cooks up something else.
Quoted from girloveswaffles:Lots of empty Fry's stores in California.
The frys that closed up off the 91 in Anaheim has some parking lot construction going on as of yesterday. The frys closed, being repurposed now.
I helped build the hospital next to it in my time at grainger industrial supply.
Quoted from chuckcasey:Lastly, I wanted to thank all those who have ever visited the Museum of Pinball but specially acknowledge anyone who has ever volunteered to help maintain the collection.
Chuck Casey
Museum of Pinball - Curator
Thank you chuck for your efforts as well. I know I will get to see you at some point to talk more. I look forward to that.
The volunteer staff is a bunch of very excellent people. Dedicated.
Quoted from vicjw66:Is This guy even a real captain, or is he stealing valor like colonal sanders?
I have personally met the owner and he is a nice guy. Does he need to be an actual captain? You lost me.

This is me remaining cordial.
Quoted from vicjw66:Did you have an earlier post typed out that you deleted where you were not cordial? I would love to see it.
It was about the captains need to actually be a captain, To name his company captains. I don’t go back and delete things. Although I will correct my spelling and grammar.
At any rate.
I predict every lot will sell. It’s perfect storm. Good for The owner, sad for me, and other locals. I had hoped to visit banning for many years to come in the future. In fact, I kind of counted on it at this point.
In that aspect this is all somber to me. I wish it was not going away. I will likely not attend the auction so I hope someone takes a few pictures.
Quoted from xsvtoys:Megaload up to lot # 2013 now shown at Captain's Auction.
For the second half, pins start at lot # 890, then again at 1305.
Hint: Start at 1342 if you are looking for the latest, big bucks stuff. Its all in there.
I noticed that there is a "Jolly Park" (#989), I saw that pop up in the game room thread and thought it looked pretty cool. I never had heard of that one before. I wish I could have played it when the MOP was open, although I don't remember seeing it on the floor.
The jolly park was set up for play in the back left corner area if I recall. By the Hercules. Roughly.
Quoted from jake35:frontier is a cheap title, not sure why it's missing.
Might have been a gift to the owner, The frontier. I seem to recall playing an immaculately restored frontier in the beginning of the museum. I have a pic somewhere of me playing it.
One year, at banning…
I was drinking shots with a relative of the owners. He was an older fellow, like an uncle of the owners I think.
We had several shots as he described that he doesn’t like pinball and has never played it, despite his closeness to the owner.
I took this opportunity.
I got him over to tron pinball after about an hour.
I told him why I like it. We played a few games.
Now he has played pinball.
So I guess, the tron has some special meaning to me. I hope that old guy is doing well.
Quoted from doghouse:Defender is why I was interested in the auction in the first place. Been looking for one for years...... Must have been sold off in advance?
I might ask around about this and a couple others. I know that any games that were owned by others were returned. There were some odd titles one of my friends had at the museum at one point or another and I am certain he would have taken those back. The reason I thought of this at all is because I think that particular person owns a defender...
I should have played it a bit more than I did. I’m almost certain I played a game on it last time I was there. The museum.
CV hit, then this hit, and I lost my chance.

I thought it was here to stay now and we would have it a few times a year forever, at the very least.
I was Wrong, showing me painfully nothing does last forever.
Great memories. I was always wanting to take more pics. I’m pretty sure I played damn near ever game there, though. Except for the e ms. But I know for a fact I cleaned the glass on every pinball game there as a volunteer. I’m got an issue with dirty glass on pinball. It was my mission before it opened at least one day.
Quoted from John_I:Well that pretty much seals it. No good deals will be had.
But good times will be had. I get to go!
1 to three preview is the last time games will be played at banning. Going to be a busy couple hours.
I also wanted to mention holy moly we got some detailed pics from captains. I hope those pictures remain accessible.
Quoted from pinlink:Anyone know if it costs money to just register to bid? Capt auction is asking for payment info to just create an account.
The payment is like a credit card left with the front desk at your local hotel, you need it to enter or bid. But there is no actual lasting charges unless you buy.
That is what I understand here. I would have passed if there was an actual entry cost.
I am going for closure myself today. But I have volunteered five days or more in the place. So a qualified buyer but not bidding. You never know….
I was really looking forward to the banning haunted house again.
(I will snap a pic of it before I go)
Quoted from zh2oson:Mother-In-Law just texted from Santa Fe. Heard about the auction on NPR. This has officially...
[quoted image]
Not off yet, but we are about to watch. See you there!
I would guess the payment goes the other way. Captains hands the payment to pinball museum. This is a well oiled machine. It’s surely all set up already, today. It’s all business now. (Mostly)
Quoted from pookycade:John better happily convey that check over to Chris. Captains earned it and cemented their reputation as the go to place when you got a large collection to sell. The Sotheby’s of arcades
The gavel is about to fall.

Mostly parts games, but some good ones they just lacked the room to put on the floor.
I played a karnov here.
Quoted from LTG:No. I don't remember who, just that it wasn't Steve's.
LTG : )
That would have made a difference to me. Never met Steve but his reputation was sterling. I wished I had met him. I get to meet a lot of others too. I feel quite fortunate.
But Steve, Like I said I heard a lot of good things. Rest In Peace sir.
I wanted his spirit.
Quoted from FlippyD:Thayer's Quest gotta be the wonkiest laser disc game of them all.
Saw that and said. Hmm. Never seen that before.
Quoted from LateCenturyMods:Is $4100 cheap enough? Whew.
That cliff hanger brought back some nostalgia.
It’s a perfect storm for the seller and the auction. Congrats to both.
In the days it was open normally the video game section was totally popping and also coolest in temperature.
I’m going to miss that feeling in the whole place but you know what they say; when one door closes another opens.
Quoted from LTG:Since they don't have it. I doubt it.
LTG : )
Yes I thought the same thing. Hall of fame in Vegas owns a sweet one. Might be the one thought of.
730B7164-2224-4D36-A9CE-18F9DD347C4B (resized).jpegQuoted from Knxwledge:Watching the hobby I love get absolutely demolished in front of my eyes is entertaining in the kind of sadistic, snuff film type of way
It’s not the demolition of a hobby, this hobby is thriving. IMO.
They tried to demolish the hobby in the early 1900s. Truly.
https://www.history.com/news/that-time-america-outlawed-pinball
Quoted from Heretic_9:Sorry, but I'll ALSO be tremendously surprised if this event moves the popularity needle to any measurable degree.
I mean thriving in general. It is hot and this is an example of some perfect timing.
The popularity needle need not move. It’s already there, is what I’m saying I guess. Cheers.
Playboy just sells and sells forever. I would love to see a new playboy pin.
It could be very stylish but completely new. I bet it could be mostly kid friendly. It could come in multiple versions. Kid friendly, rack friendly and finally uncensored.
I would full on love to see a Hugh Hefner pinball.
Digression over…
Quoted from cdnpinbacon:My pretend auction was fun!
In my pretend auction, I am Charlie and I get the keys to everything.
Krull pinball is a great game I have had the privilege of playing.
I would rather have a krull than a spirit, and that is saying a lot to me.
I would recreate it but not change anything except the interior workings. Now that would be a cool recreation. There was only like 8 produced.
Quoted from CaptainNeo:I had a chance to buy king kong for 12k back in the day.
I played one not too long ago and there is exactly one. So it must be that one.
It is absolutely beautiful but I would have picked the krull pinball in the same room over it. If that is any consolation. The same owner has the zingy bingo prototype and the wizard blocks prototype. King pin in the mix and your head just began to spin. What a game room.
Quoted from xTheBlackKnightx:There are nine (9) examples of King Kong (Data East, 1990) that were made.
This is not Loch Ness Monster which is verified at one, but several more backglasses.
(I uploaded over 70+ LNM images to PinSide prior to the last change of hands)
I cannot state how many KKs are in actual working order now and survived.
The original prototypes were all functional with basic code when Data East negated the project.
High End Pins has done restorations of several, but I do not track those details.
Sorry, I must have been thinking of Loch Ness monster, which was also there.
I would like to go one more time, but this weekend is Halloween time baby.
Knotts scary farm tonight.
If I can dig one out I’ll wear a banning shirt!
They are just hanging out. These girls are special. Although you know their personalities are a bit wooden.
Had to make sure.
https://www.thefreedictionary.com/wooden
Quoted from adol75:I can't take my eyes off of that Joust cocktail table, I've never seen one, it's a total beauty
I want one. It’s unique. I have played it about 20 times. I would prefer that over any other cocktail pinball myself.
Quoted from Ericpinballfan:I'll be using the banning results as my basis for replacement insurance purposes.
This is a good tip here. IMO.
Quoted from gonzo73:As a fourth generation Californian, I thank my great grandparents for leaving the old country and moving directly to the Golden state.
I'll never leave.
Message from the Freeeek Kingdom.
My grandpa went from Italy to Detroit, then me to California at 21. Now 54.
Fully agree on the never leave part!
44764B73-65DF-4784-B9D0-1ABDF8EE17BD (resized).jpegQuoted from Heretic_9:When I see very successful actors / celebs like Selleck, Henry Winkler, William Devane peddling that crap, my immediate thought is: "Did you REALLY need the $$$$ that bad, AFTER all you've achieved in your careers ?!"
The infomercial industry generates almost 2 billion in revenue in today’s world. When Last I looked I think it was 1.7 billion, so very close. (To me it seems close)
You can see how one might like to get involved. It’s the money I think. Period. I wonder how, much? Probably two days work and then. $$$.
I can only hope I get in here somehow. If I ever meet someone who has done this I will get some more info.
Quoted from gonzo73:Yep, there are Currently 62 cargo ships anchored off the Port of Los Angeles Long Beach. Waiting.......
It's getting worse.
I wanted to see a picture of all the ships but I am not so ambitious. As to be able to actually find one. One mapping service wanted me to log in.
On a side note, the holidays are going to be heavily affected in Los Angeles and oc.
Not looking forward to that.
Quoted from j_m_:everyone should just start retheming project pins as a supreme package and then reap the rewards of selling these 1-offs to the millennials with deep pockets
Hhhmmm. This gives me a parody idea. I must find out how deep the pockets are…
Quoted from CrazyLevi:Was the auction a cause or a symptom?
I’m leaning way toward symptom. Auction is a distant memory but higher prices aren’t.
Either way it was a perfect storm…
Quoted from Heretic_9:Didn't address the 2nd. major point: So where's all that damn weed already ??!
Countless spliffs are waiting !
While I was there the first day of the auction I peeked at the upcoming weed operation. It was rolling hard. Alot of machinery being installed, or had been installed already.
