    Bidder 1660 Identified:
    --------------------------
Gatlinburg pinball museum was mentioned in the article, so I went looking for more info. They are currently closed for improvements and hope to open by mid/late December.
    From their Facebook-
We definitely bought a few and can’t wait to reopen to share them with you! We kept as many in the United States as possible during this Banning auction.
However we did not purchase a $5,300 Stargate video game...ever. We have been in this business since the release of Space Invaders. We know the pieces we can locate and those we consider rare. Stay tuned!
    Sincerely, Bidder 1660

Nice, glad another public pinball house got some of them

Bought a few interesting projects at the auction last night.
Although I'm 99.9% certain these were consigned from another collector (not Banning stuff).

Both of these are PSE cabinets and use the same hardware as Bazooka (which I have).
Should be able to test the board sets in that cabinet and go from there.
Pretty darn rare games from a short lived company that didn't make a lot of games.
I thought they were a bargain, but then again they are going to take a bit of work.

If we were to judge from the quantity of posts here (and certain other cues), I'd have to say that there was some major auction burn-out going on, with a lessening of interest. Some closing prices remained over the rainbow, but many more seemed to have sunk back to earth. With a clear price-shock hangover for auction weekends 1 & 2, along with the usual auction-master descriptive hyperbole, and not being able to be there to see pin conditions for myself, I simply hesitated and kept to the sidelines. There were a few lots I might have bid on but for that, and particularly if I had known that the prices would not reach those prior levels.

I'd like to learn a lot more about the cocktail table pins -- which of them are most highly regarded -- as that is a real gap in my knowledge.

    #4658 21 days ago

The worm is turning. I think Banning was the peak. I know this board is mostly cheer leading never-ending price appreciation (just like in housing), but the correction is inevitable due to demographic and financial changes. I always get this premonition just before reaching out to catch falling knives.

I've fixed one of those before! They're so weird and cool, but unless you're competing, they get a little stale after you get it locked in.
The playfield is in the bottom of the cab, tilted backwards, with a 45 degree mirror set up.

Uh, what title is that ? (I'm gonna guess it was low production . . . )

These prices were back to normal average Captains Auctions.
No New York Times Story's telling the world Pinball/video games for sale!

That Desert Patrol looked cool, love all the early era Video games, most of the early pre Space Invader history has been lost and forgotten.

You should try to make it out here for ZapCon this year.
    https://pinside.com/pinball/events/zapcon-8-2022
I’m planning on bringing a bunch of this era of games to the show and running two “Bronze Age” arcade tournaments.

The first one is going to be Land, Air and Sea.
It’s a head to head, player against player double elimination tournament.
My plan is to bring SUBS, TANK 2, Biplane and Guided Missile. Trophies for first, second and third place.

Second tournament is going to be a general Bronze Age tournament where you compete on a variety of games like Sea Wolf, Stunt Cycle, Sky Diver, Blue Shark, Sub Hunter, Video Pinball, Space Invaders etc. Each game will be based on score. Highest score per game gets 4 points, second highest gets 3, third gets two and you get 1 point for just playing a machine and putting up a score. If two people tie on a machine, they both get the points allocated for that bracket. For instance two people tie for first on Stunt Cycle, they both get 4 points. The most overall points at the end determines 1st, 2nd and third place and there will be trophies for that as well. In the event of a tie, the two players are challenged to a duel at Gunfight.

The great thing about it is it’s mostly time based skill games. I.E. anybody could win. I would not be surprised if someone’s kid walks away with a trophy. Should be a lot of fun.

Also listed were a couple pins I never heard of: Ultraman and Halloween. Sounds like they would have to be licensed themes, so no home brew Ultracab type deals ?

These are the 2 most recent Spooky Pinball releases. Halloween is licensed from the 1978 film, Ultraman from the classic Kaiju series. Both have the same playfield layout, just with different themes/assets.

    436a HALLOWEEN COLLECTOR'S EDITION PINBALL MACHINE #55 SPOOKY PINBALL 2021 $9,600

Ultraman code or lack of is pure garbage. That was a guy I knows machine at Captains that sold for 8300 without fees. He was pissed rightfully so after he unboxed and started playing it. The new owner is gonna be even more pissed dropping 10k on that turd.

Yeah Spooky needs to get UM in a better place. Playing it with current code is really lackluster and compared to Godzilla makes it even worse.

    #4676 17 days ago

Spooky figured out they don't need Danesi, Priepke, Kerins, or anyone to sell games. Theme alone sells out the entire run instantly. Buyers made their bed, now they gotta lie in it.

What sort of dolt would drop that extent of change sight unseen ? (Pins are large, heavy machines, not so easily re-sold or disposed of.)

A good friend long ago decided that he wouldn't purchase any game -- and in this case we're generally talking Used here -- without first personally inspecting it for condition, and of course having played it to assess the level of interest. That pretty much limited him to a 2-hour driving distance. Having ordered around 8 pins from long distance myself, with the attendant shipping and its added cost, I sort of took that as an extreme and impractical position to take. (It does take you out of the running, if a title is rare and widely sought after, with a sample not to be found anywhere in the area.) By now I'm starting to see some wisdom in this. But I had always had experience in having played whatever I was buying, and in all but one case was able to do a pretty good job in determining the condition, despite the game being on the other side of the country.

I can't imagine buying a pricey item, by advance order, when you just have nothing known to base this on.

Anyone who has been in this hobby for more than a minute, knows Spooky developes the Code as the game is being built and shipped.

Most Halloween Ultraman owners, 95% of them won't get thier machine until sometime in 2022.

My first 3 NIB were Spooky games, TNA, Alice, and Rick and Morty.
The finished code on all three is great.
Scott D still has cool ideas that he wants to add to TNA.

Anyone who dumps their Halloween Ultraman at this point are tantruming Babys.

    Pretty pathetic.

Not sure if you've seen the market lately but they're pretty easily re-sold.

    #4685 16 days ago
    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

Who forced him to buy it?

He was forced by the enormous power known as FOMOPIN.

The FLAMING ICON on a Pinside thread drew him in closer to his computer screen. “What’s this?” he thought, as he clicked on the mouse.

Through the posts he scrolled, feverishly, to seek the cause of this flaming icon. “20k by Xmas!” a poster excitedly exclaimed. The goosebumps formed on his arms — adrenaline coursed through his veins. I MUST HAVE THIS THING!

Excitedly, he found the purchase link. Hand quivering, he slid his mouse over the available options. “I’M GETTING EVERYTHING!” he proudly exclaimed, out loud to his empty office. He knew that all successful people always got … EVERYTHING.

Quickly he returned to the flaming thread.

“I’M IN ON AN LE!!” he proudly typed. He knew that was what super cool people always typed on Pinside. He knew it was his duty to let everyone know that he had a lot of money to spend on pinball machines, and HE WAS IN.

    IN.

    “I’M IN ON AN LE”

Again the goosebumps returned. Another adrenaline moment. I’ve made it, he thought. THIS WILL BE BOLTED TO THE FLOOR.

He returned to the Pinside menu.

    What’s this?

    ANOTHER FLAMING THREAD!!

    Another machine has been released!

    The process repeated!

    I’M IN!!

I AM IN ON AN LE.
