Quoted from nsduprr:

I’m trying to figure out how much time an auction will take.
“chuckcasey” said that there were 780 pins.
X 4 minutes per pin auction time is 3900 minutes or 52 hours!
Holy crap!
Then:
For me to drag a trailer form SE Michigan to Banning will be 6 days of travel x $160 per deim/day. Add $900 of diesel fuel. Two day per deim at Banning for another $320. Total before biding: @2,200 ish. Plus add in the bar tab....
Double Holy crap!

Why not buy five pins via internet bidding, pay NAVL $2250 ($450 per game estimate) to ship the games to you ?
Are you REALLY planning on going?

You’d get way better freight pricing shipping multiple pins.

I shipped 10 new Spookies NIB from Benton to Long Beach (L.A.) and from memory it was $700 or $750 the lot.

You gotta shop around.

There's good money to be made brokering freight....

As a general rule I do not buy games I have not personally looked at.

Whom do I have take care of game break down and preparing for shipment?

So yes, a logistical problem to make participating happen.

So no, I'm REALLY NOT planning on attending.

WTF: Next time try making it harder to read.

Hmm, first time I've noticed that they charge 3% more fee for internet bidders.

No, they are all at Banning.
The auction will be held from there.
In person day of auction at Banning.
Captain's is the Auctioneer.

Your trying to auction off what?? $1,000,000+ worth of games and you can't take the time to present the terms of sale in some sort of reasonable / professional manner?

WFT, how long would it take to get rid of the unnecessary carriage returns?

It make you look like your try to hide something, or just careless.

#364 2 years ago

23-26% on top of the hammer price. Hammer prices would have to be pretty damn low to make this worthwhile.

Quoted from The_Pump_House:

Yet people will pay it, even close to retail prices or above. I really see this as a locals only auction, or at least within driving distance. No way it's worth internet bidding and then having a game shipped to you.

#366 2 years ago
Quoted from nsduprr:

WTF: Next time try making it harder to read.

For example, read with some line breaks only:

#4 ALL ITEMS MUST BE REMOVED FROM LOCATION within 5 business days.
Removal for paid Lots will be until 10:00 pm PST day of Sale.
Removal will commence the Next day after the sale is completed.
REMOVAL HOURS are posted in auction details.
Removal MUST BE COMPLETED within three (3) days or appoinment only within two (2) days following or Penalty Fees can apply.

So is the removal time 5 days or 3 days? If I make and appointment (spelled correctly) then I must be out by 2 day's?

I could go on an on like: What are the "Penalty Fees (caps not mine)?, and three opposing statements on removal hours, and other "read the auction terms" hidden terms.

You need a better lawyer

It's rough but there are games there that you just never see for sale. I'll check it out although probably just via internet bidding, just cuz being all day at an auction can be exhausting. At least there won't be shill bidders on this one as the items can't just be relisted on the next auction by the owner, once they sell they sell. Realistically though I doubt I'll get anything as others have way deeper pockets than I do. I've sold a few games that I restored to the museum, kinda curious what those will sell for.

Quoted from cosmokramer:

Yeah every game is always "bright and tight" even if it's faded and missing a wiring harness.

Quoted from nsduprr:

No. I think it's pretty clear: you get three days to just come and get the stuff. If you miss that you get 2 more days but by appointment only (meaning, they're not staffing the pickup all day for those days). Take longer than that and you pay a penalty.

Yes, salty AND an old dog. Bitchy yes. My boss, before I retired, paid me extra for those qualities.

Information is great... if it correct.

Info is only good if it's from the person in charge of the auction. From another thread:

OK. "PinBallPeteFromSD"

OK the information is *good*

It still does not excuse the poor presentation.

BTW: I attended MOP the first year with Clay H., Tim A. and Mike S. Although I don't rise to the lofty heights of these greats, I'm not a door knob either.

No, I'm not *pissed* and it's not just *pinball dude*

It's about doing a sale above board with all the terms and conditions CLEARY stated from the official source. Not side bar posts from close insiders and no "read the auction T&C's"

THC make me have the munchies. Bad for my A1C. I leave that to the younger generation.

I have bought from captains before. Its commission and then tax. They are pretty straight forward on that stuff. Never had any surprises on costs other than on repairs I didn’t expect.

I just ballpark add-on 25% to the bid price for a real price.

#393 2 years ago

I never understood why I should be paying sales tax on captains’ commission. It should be sales tax on the hammer price only. Screw this paying tax on an additional 18 percent.

Also, are we to assume it will be 3 days of all pins followed the next week by 3 days all arcades?

#394 2 years ago

This sale is gonna be hilarious. If you’ve played these pins at banning, most are pretty FD up. I do think they have some hidden gems but don’t think you’re gonna get a discount on BBB if they even sell the rare ones. I think the bargains are gonna be the EMs because most people won’t be looking at those

#395 2 years ago
Quoted from vicjw66:

I never understood why I should be paying sales tax on captains’ commission.

Many years ago I ordered a toy from Sears because they where out of stock.
They charged sales tax on the shipping... I never ordered a thing from them again.

#396 2 years ago
Quoted from LOTR_breath:

So by today's standards, when the EM's roll around and everyone is out of money, they will still sell for 1500-2500/each.

Any auctioneer with any experience mixes in the ultra desirable items with the less desirable. I highly doubt they will sell all the newer high dollar games on the same day. To get the best sale prices they will most likely be all over the place with the most desirable machines mixed throughout the entire auction. I think anyone who thinks otherwise is in for a harsh reality.

#397 2 years ago

The auction company will make more profit then the Museum will from the sales. Pretty sad.

#398 2 years ago

I predict the real bargains will be Arcades. There are some 1200 of them.

-1
#399 2 years ago
Quoted from GravitaR:

The auction company will make more profit then the Museum will from the sales. Pretty sad.

If the buyer and seller premiums are 15% as usual at Captain's... on a $1000 game the auction house makes $300 and the seller makes $850. This is 35.2%. So the auction house makes 35.2% of the profit the museum makes. If the museum has negotiated a different rate then this percentage goes down, not up. How does 35.3% (or $300) equal more profit than 85% (or $850)?
