What planet are these buyers from?
This auction deserves its own documentary.
The market has been strapped to a rocket and launched into space.

A college thesis can be wrote about this auction.
This is a joke. Obviously something going on. South Park going for almost 8k and not even including 18% hammer and/or shipping/tax!
NO REAL person would spend over $10k for south park pinball. Seriously. What scam is happening right now!!! Total joke

I'm thinking the same thing. Money laundering maybe, who knows but there is no way in hell....
I can't fathom. It doesn't make sense. Do the people bidding this kind of money think pinballs don't exist anywhere else?
"Hey! The New York Times says there's this big auction on pinballs! Remember them? Holy crap, they made [insert title]__?!?!?! I had no idea!!! Well shit if this museum has the only one dagnabbit I'm getting it at any cost!"
I mean, that HAS to be it, right?
Quoted from MtnFrost:I'm thinking the same thing. Money laundering maybe, who knows but there is no way in hell....
Maybe Bezos wants the ultimate arcade for his basement?
Has anyone come up with an answer why these prices are so out of control other than
1. These people are crazy
2. It was featured heavily in the press
Because I just don't feel that's enough. HERP DERP COVID MONEY doesn't make any sense either.
In my dumb headcanon there's going to be a new money YouTube influencer who is going to make a series of videos about "Hey guys look what I bought!"
Other than that I cannot explain this insanity.
Quoted from MtnFrost:I'm thinking the same thing. Money laundering maybe, who knows but there is no way in hell....
It's just rich dudes, no conspiracy. When you have enough money that price doesn't matter. There are a LOT of rich nerds out there that think they are getting a piece of history and a museum relic...
we're not even at any of the really big rare machines yet omg
I absolutely need a documentary about what is happening here. Someone get to the bottom of this, there's gonna be so many STORIES
Quoted from MtnFrost:I'm thinking the same thing. Money laundering maybe, who knows but there is no way in hell....
Nah. Just stimulus money pouring in like crazy.
“Yeah 5.6k is too cheap for Godzilla so I’m gonna just talk and let the bids roll in for a few minutes”
Quoted from ForceFlow:Godzilla didn't blast past SP and Baywatch? That's a little surprising.
Makes zero sense

Everyone saw the 1998 lizard and said "f that"

maybe it means that the big buyers aren't pinheads... more after license than actual rare game pinheads would appreciate.
Quoted from NPO:I love how they turn off each game after it sells.
Like "Did you see the price we just sold that for???? Turn it off!!!! Don't let a single thing break."
Less chance for magic smoke .

Just as likely as dudes cashing their retirement to buy a game in order to feel cool again. Nope.

Godzilla is a big license. And a rare game. A double whammy.
Looking at the numbers assigned to the bidders, it looks like 2 guys (3368 and 1815) have been going back and forth on the last few. Just takes 2 guys to make it go nuts

When emotions get ahead of logic, nothing is off the table.
Ask any E2-E3 in the military getting a Mustang/Challenger (V6 model mind you) for $52K with a 5 year loan at 37% interest.

I want to say “because the Toho Stern teaser just dropped a couple hours ago” but that would mean these insane Rich Uncle Pennybags are also pinheads.
Can’t be.
May all these buyers blow a fuse or burn a locked-on coil and then have a large paperweight to torment them....
Folks we have a Xenon coming up. And a frickin Fathom! These are actual desirable games. I can’t even imagine the Fathom. I guess I’ll throw out $19,000 for the Fathom, hammer. Seems stupid, but then again…
As I recall from playing it, their Fathom is a pretty nice one.
As for the last ones of the night, TZ, TAF, SS, AFM, etc, what the hell? In the 20s?

Is it at all possible someone is trolling the auction with a bunch of fake bidders? No one can seriously be paying these prices.

They won't go for any more than all the other titles - if the theory is noobs, then we won't see any change because the real collectors won't touch them at those prices.
They made shipping easy.
Simply Plenty of Money out there, Especially as I see my children, nieces, etc
earning $50 to $100 an hour. 25 years old.
Quoted from OLDPINGUY:They made shipping easy.
That's certainly a big factor. Nobody wants to figure out the logistics of shipping a far away pin on their own.
