My current zippers are Bazaar, Cosmos, Dogies, Nip-It and Surfers.

Gone but not forgotten are Fireball, Op Pop Pop, Capersville, Dixieland and Medusa (not a Zale).

Of the 9 remaining Bally zippers, I’d like to have a Rocket III and Rockmakers.

My Op Pop Pop had the same baby blue bats WITHOUT any lettering.

Chris- As we eagerly await your book, you *could* tease us with a picture of Ted

Here is my MiniZag that was purchased at York two weeks ago. It had the typical flaking paint so I did a solid repaint on the cabinet front and front edge of the backbox. Nearly THOUSANDS of paint chips were filled in by hand. Repainted the coin door, buffed out chrome parts (regraining ones that were scratched), new playfield glass, sealed and touched up the backglass. Plays 100% but still needs a proper shop job on the playfield.

Staying on topic with the August 1968 RockMakers, here is the latest addition to my herd. Been looking for one since playing it at VFW 2 years ago. My collection is nearly exclusively Ted Zale and this zipper flipper PLUS upper flipper gem is in the vein of Surfers but with the added score reels like Dogies, Wiggler, Capersville and Cosmos.

This specific example came up 3 weeks ago and I quickly reached a deal. The seller had this for several years and was supposedly the second owner of the game. The story has merit as the cabinet is in AMAZING condition and almost looks like a repaint, but it 'aint. I will add chrome legs and meticulously polish all metal. Coin door is missing entry slots and will receive a repaint. BG is missing art and I will probably spring for a BGresto. Playfield has typical wear at pops and upper arch but very respectful.

Game is missing the chrome crossbar at the upper flipper and the upper flipper is white rather than matching the lower red/orange flippers.

Quoted from gdonovan:

2) Chevrolet hugger orange looks pretty close!
[quoted image]

After checking the flyer and all the pics on IPDB, it appears that white flippers with raised letters are "stock" for the lower zipper and upper left flippers.1980f1 (resized).jpg1980f1 (resized).jpg

However, my Surfers has 3 matching orange flippers with raised letters.

Bally seemed to be all over the place with flipper style and colors. Both of my Dixieland's had orange with raised letters and my Op-Pop-Pop had baby blue flippers without letters.IMG_4356 (resized).JPGIMG_4356 (resized).JPGIMG_9812 (resized).JPGIMG_9812 (resized).JPGIMG_6214 (resized).JPGIMG_6214 (resized).JPG

Quoted from DK:

Looking for NICE examples of:
Surfers
Cosmos
Gator
Mad World
Dogies
RockMakers
Do not have to be working, but I do not have the skillset to restore classic Ballys, so need good “bones”. Shoot me a message if you got one. Thanks!

FYI, Mad World is a Zale but is not a zipper.

Quoted from Garrett:

Looking forward to the pictures!
And a good gameplay video is sorely needed on Youtube.

This is a little snarky but still good.

I would agree that Coos is the better alternative for Cosmos. Cost is slightly higher but turn around time is MUCH quicker and communication and color matching is never an issue.

Quoted from Garrett:

This was Ted's spoonless design, it was in that video about Ted.

What video is this ? Can you provide the link ?

Quoted from A_Bord:

I am 99% certain this is not a repaint. The whole game seems to be original and never reworked. Serial number is intact.
The body has red circles with cross holdouts. Any ideas?

What is the game serial number and does the head and cabinet match ? I would suspect this is an early production / prototype game and is between 1001 and 1050.

The 5 "Circle-Cross" / "Cross-Hair" design could have been the original art and maybe was changed due to the Apollo fire disaster on Jan 27, 1967 that took the lives of 3 astronauts. Rocket III was released later in April 1967. 2 years later, Jerry Kelly pushed for the black cabinet on Cosmos and no one knows for sure how many were made before they switched to the white base color.
