    Quoted from borna:

    Hi all,
Working on the 1975 Bally Wizard and some of the lights on the back box not working. For example all the lights you see with the arrows are the the blinking lights and none of them are working. Lights are in good shape. Can someone point me where they are on the schematic link below:

That should be the circuit line that connects to General Illumination (Insert) at position A3. The Bally schematics use that one circle to indicate all lamps in the backbox (or insert), which are all connected together in parallel by a yellow wire on one side and a brown wire on the other side. So, if all the other backbox GI lights are working and you are sure the bulbs are good, you can't tell any more information from the schematic. That area of the schematic is basically working because the other lamps light up, but something is wrong with that specific string. You will have to get back there and check that wiring to find out what is broken or disconnected.

    thanks guys.
So also a 50 volts should come in to the back box as well for some of the rela

ok, rewire works and make them light. But so any wires back there. how do you troubleshot to find the source of the problem?

It is best if you think it through and be slow and methodical. As you work along with the help of the advice here, you will start to understand everything better and better, and it won't look like such a jumble of wires.

We know that the voltage for the backbox GI is there, because most of the lamps light up. But, according to your picture in the first post, 5 of them shown by red arrows do not work. There is a clue there. The 5 are all in a row. If you are looking in the back, you show see how all of the light sockets are wired. All of the GI lights in the backbox have a yellow wire on one side and a brown wire on the other. However, some of them might be connected together along the top and along the bottom by some bare wires. Since these 5 are all in a row, rather than all 5 having a failure like a broken wire, it is most likely that there is one failure, which then causes all of them to be bad because they are connected together.

So you need to go back there and check all those wires, and look for a broken one, or a cold solder joint. A cold solder joint is the hardest to figure out because it might look OK to the eye. Its probably a broken wire or bad connection somewhere.

Look at this pic which is from my Bon Voyage. For example, look at the upper right where there are 4 lamp sockets in the form of a square. See how they are connected together by some bare wires? And those wires are connected to the yellow and brown GI wires toward the bottom. If you get a break somewhere along those bare wires, it will affect everything after it down the chain.

Also there are 10 lights on top used for match. What relay I need to engage to light one of them up to make sure is working?

The Wizard should have one in the backbox that looks the same as the one in the lower right corner on the Bon Voyage.

This thread tells a lot about it:

Also, if you can post a nice in-focus photo of the back side where those bad lamps are, maybe we can see the problem here.
