Got a cool machine in a trade. Love all Bally's from this period, and you don't see much on this machine.
The Vector, as I got it, was horribly dirty and rusty below pf. I have no idea what that was about, but decided to proceed. It's turning out well, so here's some pics.
Inner cab painted, harness, trans, etc. cleaned and reinstalled.
PS- the pf and backbox are sweet, or I would not have taken this on. Bg too. Thankfully.

Cleaned harness, replaced crusty 555 sockets with 44's. New braid. LEDs. Cleaned mechs. May do all new flipper parts, but stayed with bushings, sleeves for now. Not finished in this photo.
Bally put a ton into this machine.

Nice pickup. Keep them pictures coming.

The pf had 3 small mylars - slings and pop. And crazy little wear. I decided to leave the mylar, and clear coat.
It's not perfect, but really good. New flippers, plastics, etc.
Original ramps polished up ok.
New drop targets from Mr. Young.

That is in really nice condition. But do yourself a favor and play it extensively first before doing all that work.

Not sure what you mean. Any Bally from this period is worth the work, in my opinion. It will be a nice addition to the game room.

I've had this game on my wish list for a while, I'm glad you're putting the work into it, it's a really cool game. Congrats! Did you clear coat over the mylar??

#10 6 years ago

Yes. It was securely attached, and I sure didn't want to take a chance of pulling up paint, and opening that can of worms. Honestly, I was just going to clean this machine up and play it, but 1 thing led to another...

It's a neat game, for sure, but the game play is a love-hate kind of thing. I've read too many stories of people who have restored games without playing them and then hated them when they finally played them. I'm just recommending you love it before you go to all the trouble.

EDIT: Rereading your post I see you've already done the work. It looks great. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm curious on how it turned out clearing over the Mylar ... I was going to do it once, then was strictly warned by several veterans to pull the Mylar... I've pulled Mylar on several ballys now, and the paint afterward that was under the Mylar looked better than what is around the Mylar... just FYI for the future!

I really hope to get a vector some day, I bet the upper pf area is super fast and difficult.
I'm not crazy about the speech, but I have some ideas to mod it a little and put some modern music in it.

My Quicksilver was cleared over mylar around the pop bumpers. 5000+ games and no issues. As long as the mylar adhesion is good....no lifting edges...you should be fine.

Nice, I guess I could have just left the Mylar on paragon then, but it's off and cleared now and all is good

And gamatron and black knight and ....

I spoke with a respected pf guy before proceeding.
I scuffed the mylar and pf, sanded in between clear coats, and it's hard to see the line of mylar.
