Quoted from mbaumle:When you had sohchx clear your playfield, did you strip the rear of the playfield as well? I'm looking for someone local(ish) who would be willing to touchup and clearcoat my Captain Fantastic playfield, but I'd rather not strip everything off of the back.
Reach out to him. Devin does really good work. You don't have to strip the back, just everything that protrudes through the front, including rollovers. You can leave the leaf switches and the slingshot kicker arms. He tapes them.
Quoted from sohchx:I think I'm to far away from him Colson. He wants someone that's closer to home.
I don't mind a good road trip now and again! I'll shoot you a PM, if you don't mind.
Quoted from Colsond3:Verdict is good!! LOL
Great picture of her. I take it the monsters don't scare her.
Quoted from MustangPaul:Great picture of her. I take it the monsters don't scare her.
Thanks... she's a gem. And not really, she's used to all of my horror pins. I once brought home a Freddy that was mint, waited six months to get it. That freaked her out and I had to move it within a week. The audio on that game is pretty gory, and actually freaked me out a little.
Still enjoying your progress postings and still have not been able to get down to the doctors to check on picking up a manual. I think I will check again today. Of course I'm dying to pick up my game.
Quoted from sohchx:I think I'm to far away from him Colson. He wants someone that's closer to home.
Come on man!!! Your work is definitely worth the drive. Did you get that license plate border on?
Quoted from mbaumle:I don't mind a good road trip now and again! I'll shoot you a PM, if you don't mind.
Let me know if you're heading down Max...I'll give you my GTB Spidey and Superman playfields to take down, or I'll make the trek with you.
Well I finally went down to look at my Vampire on Sunday. The good news is it looks pretty good. We will be sending both the playfield from my game and the NOS playfield I got to someone for touch up and clear coating. I need to de-populate the original playfield and start a inventory of what parts I need to order. The bad news is neither game, mine or the one he is keeping had a manual or schematic inside. So it looks like we are still on the hunt for manuals. Have you checked with Pinball Resource or Marco yet? If not I'll check with them. If I find one with them we can swap a manual for a schematic. Your progress looks impressive.

Thanks. Unfortunately I had a funeral to attend this week, so understandably progress was minimal. I plan to resume working on it in the next couple days. If you get a manual, let me know. If you send me your email, I'll shoot you the schematic.
Quoted from MustangPaul:Looks great but the back cover looks soooo plain.
You mean the top apron? I powder coated they the sub-apron / ball guide illusion cherry. You'll be able to see that when it's illuminated. I kept the top yellow even though I had it powder coated again...trying to keep some parts of the game original.
Do you mean you think I should have powdered it cherry instead of the original yellow?
The top apron. It looks like it's just begging for a custom paint job to match the pf. But you want to keep it more original and I can see that. I'm just thinking out loud.
The red jewel posts are definitely a well deserved upgrade on this one.!!! You think it could pull off matching pop caps? I know you want to keep it as original as possible though

I thought about that. Going to stick with two originals, and one skull cap ( even though it's from Stern Drac). I got a new one from Marco, and I had one on there before. I think it adds a nice touch.
I would've had all the posts back on last night, but I ran out of #6 1 1/2" screws. I need Lowe's to be open until at least 2 AM. LOL
Red posts were the correct call. The white rubbers are too stark of a contrast against the pastel blue playfield, imo. Red titan rubbers would look slick.

or even a grey would look good as it would give contrast to the red post and match that of the base color of the PF!

I vote black, for maximum contrastability, and match the bats, and "if in doubt paint it black" is my motto.

All good suggestions...I think black would darken it up too much though. Not really a fan of black rubbers. I was thinking red initially, and I'm gonna play with it more tonight or this weekend. I had ordered some light blue too, and they looked decent on the white posts, but not so much when I switched to the trans red posts. Thanks for the input...appreciate it.
Didn't have much time but wanted to get something done. White rubbers are staying for now, but I'll order a few colors, at least for accents and switch them out later. At least the general reassembly of the playfield is done for now.
Easier to finish the rest once I get it back in the cabinet anyway. Back to the cab work so I can move my ass and get this project finished up.
Quoted from Colsond3:This is the only broken plastic.
Going to 3-D print one, and make a repro this way. Hopefully one of them comes out good.
Let me know if you want me to laser cut you a replacement on my new-to-me epilog laser.
That won't really help with the graphics.. but it might help

Hey Zitt, I was wondering if you could cut me a new Jack Bot mini pf out of lexan? No artwork on it and just the big hole in it.

Thanks for the offer Zitt...I might do that. Let me see how I make out on the AS-5 and Nicety NT320 first. I wish you sold the light up pop bumper housings that would fit the older Bally EM's. I perused your site again just to make sure you didn't.
Quoted from MustangPaul:Hey Zitt, I was wondering if you could cut me a new Jack Bot mini pf out of lexan? No artwork on it and just the big hole in it.
I can't. CO2 doesn't cut polycarbonate (lexan).
You need a fiber laser AFAIK; which I do not have.
I can only cut PMMA (acrylic) and other materials like PETG.
Quoted from Colsond3:I wish you sold the light up pop bumper housings that would fit the older Bally EM's.
No one makes the bally era housings in transparent. I would have to design a mold and have them manufactured. I'm not sure there a large enough market for that right now.

Would PETG be strong enough? How scratch resistant is it?

I figured...a shame they don't make them at all. I've looked on your site and elsewhere. The brand new white ones should look pretty killer on this too...given that the housings that were on it are nearly 50 years old.
Quoted from MustangPaul:Would PETG be strong enough? How scratch resistant is it?
IDK, honestly.
PETG is used pretty exclusively for most modern printed plastics in pinball machines right now. It'd be interesting to see how thick you'd need it.
The other option is to waterjet the PolyCarbonate; but would probably be expensive at $3/minute machine time at techshop.

What is the part number?
Bally- C114-3 ?

Yup, that's the correct part number.
What about the method from this post, have you looked into this?

Thanks for the heads up. I did see that thread, but I have a CO2 laser cutter. As far as I know, you need a digital cutter or some other apparatus to cut polycarbonate, as Zitt said above. PETG is the standard today, so that's probably the route I'm going. And I'm making a few extras.

Correct, We tried cutting PolyCarb many years ago with a CO2 100+W laser with special Argon air assist... and it was slow going and didn't work right for many parts. PolyCarb seems to melt instead of vaporizing which means the "cut line" glues itself back together as it cuts.
PETG is generally ok on the CO2 lasers... although I don't have a lot of experience with it.
Sohchx did a great job on my Black Hole restore. Kruzman currently has my nos Phantom of the Opera since it needed dimpling. Vampire is one of those quirky Halloween style games I love like Haunted House

He does great work. And definitely...try for all horror pins over here. Some aren't so easy to find, especially in good condition...like Vampire.
Finally getting back to work on this after knee surgery. What a bummer. At least I'll have this thing ready for Pinfest. Goal is to be playing some games on Vamp by the end of October.
Luckily this fantastical machine followed me home during recovery to cheer me up, and I got to play at least a few games. Obviously having this thing in your house is not conducive to getting things done.

Just finishing up the hardware to match, but getting something done. It's the tedious things that take up the time, but this game deserves it. Watching Atari_Daze make some progress on his SBM gave me some much needed motivation. New airbrush guns and compressor should be here by Friday, so plan is to finish the cabinet by the end of the weekend.
Glad to see my efforts were of some inspiration and hope your recovering well from your knee surgery. I'm enjoying your progress and can't wait to see this thing when it is complete, It's going to be a masterpiece.
Quoted from Colsond3:It's the tedious things that take up the time, but this game deserves it.
As they say, the devil is in the details, keep up the great work!

Thanks man. New compressor got here today so I'm finally back in business to finish this damn cab!!
Quoted from Pahuffman:You're not planning on keeping that green LED under that red plastic in the center, are you?
Probably not. LOL. I was initially thinking I would try to coordinate the bulbs to the stand up target colors, but it will stand out like a sore thumb.
Quoted from fingersport:Well its late October any updates? I can't wait to see the finished product.
Had a few unexpected issues that caused some delay, but getting back on the horse. Was planning on finishing the cab up yesterday, but the never-ending downpour of rain screwed me. Plan on jumping back on it tonight.
I'm guessing your doctor friend never got a copy of the manual to you?
