    Yet another coil saga!

I've got the above machine in and it's left hand flipper coil is burnt out. The number on the other one' wrapper looks like 1.84 1.90?

Not being too familiar with Bally machines, this coil in question looks to have both it's windings done separately on the one bobbin, instead of the conventional flipper coil, say on a Gottlieb or Williams machine. It's length looks to be the same as a conventional flipper coil though, just a bit thinner.

Would a later Bally A25 - 500 34-4500 fit instead ( I have a pair of those to hand) or must I use the original coil? PBR lists the number but says to use a substitute but makes no mention of what that is ( I have emailed Jimmy but I thought I ask here first as I might not get a reply straight away)

As always, thanks for any help or advice

According to the manual, the flipper coils are part number are E-184-190

FYI, this 1971 Bally doc provides an updated coil number chart. E-184-190 was updated to AF-25-600/31-1000 which can be had for $7 at BAA. However I would listen to what PBR suggests personally.

    Hi jeffc
great find You did. I was writing on my posting to come - and You posted within this time. Anyway --- the two pages I refer to may be of help on another question of substituting.

    Hi classicpinballs
here https://www.flippers.com/coil-resistance.html they say "E-184-190 replacement is AF-25-600/31-1000" . Almost on the bottom of the page we can click on Metric Gauge and land here https://web.archive.org/web/20060213000029/http://www.vandenhul.com/artpap/awg.htm (to learn how thick the wire 25 and the wire 31 is / are.
And here http://www.pinballmedic.net/coil_chart.html we get the same information (AF-25-600/31-1000).
The "strange to me" rule is "same diameter and less windings is more powerful". And about "31-1000 versus 34-4500" I do not want to answer --- as it would be pure guessing. Greetings Rolf

Thank you, gents. I never knew about those charts and have bookmarked them for future reference.

Jimmy at PBR confirmed the replacements so I'm now back on track with the machine. First time I've seen coils like that before though, it really threw me!

    Best wishes.

    Doug
