Excited to finally join the club! Found a local machine in terrific shape. Playfield tear down for cleaning / metal polishing and rebuilt with a color dmd, comet leds, titan rubber, new bookshelf, electric chair and thing kicker scoops. Trim is a beautiful antique gold.

Next up will be a ocd led board.

Quoted from pinballinreno:

I have to second this!
Paul makes a beautiful cabinet!
I just put one on my Funhouse resto and its perfect, way better than the original cabinet.
Just beautiful workmanship.
Plus I like the way you can order a bare cabinet or have them do it all for you as a "turn key" solution.

Does the bare cab come assembled or just as sides, front, floor, etc that need put together? What does shipping run?

Can someone please send me a picture of the "Disk Height Adjustment Label" that goes on the bottom of the Bookcase Mech Frame? I want to reproduce it for the resto I am working on.
Many thanks.

Friday night and I’m playing terrible. Might as well do some maintenance. Remove the ramp. Get a nice IPA. Replace the dome shaped rubber by the pops. Green this time.

Drill out the old ramp flaps. Use them as templates to cut new ones. Punch out holes. Clean rust off ramps. Rivet the new ones with my new press from pinrestore.

Reinstall ramps after cleaning and waxing playfield. Grab another beer and play.

Wow, your hole punch tool looks sharp!
If selfmade it would very well fit here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/show-and-tell-your-diy-homemade-tools
Do you mind sharing some more pics and also hole diameters? The punches are flat on their bottom side?
Want do build one on my own

https://www.harborfreight.com/9-piece-punch-and-die-set-95547.html

Not homemade. Harbor freight punch set. About $40. Yes the punches are flat. It works great for making ramp flaps. I just use the old flaps to determine hole size and location.
1/8 in., 3/16 in., 1/4 in., 5/16 in., 3/8 in., 7/16 in., 1/2 in., 5/8 in. and 3/4 in.

Thank you for the walk thru. Your Pics were great. Your game looks GREAT!
What material did you us for the flaps, and what did you cut with?

Spring steel rolls from pinrestore. .007" thick. Just google spring steel and find if from other vendors as well. Get more than you need as the first few attempts may not be perfect as you improve your technique.

http://www.pinrestore.com/Supplies.html

Cut with tin snips of many types available at home depot or harbor freight. I usually leave corners more square when I first cut them out then keep going back rounding off pieces to get the desired shape.

You can also run the bare pop bumper gi inside clear tubing as shown here. I use it to go under the pop bumper brackets without risking a short.

Marco sells 1/8” inner diameter tubing for this. Or get something similar at Home Depot or a pet store for a aquarium.

Quoted from Mikespinball:

I did black and liked the way it turned out. To me I like to have the "trim" not stand out as when I look at the sides of a cabinet my first impression should be the art work and not the trim (side rails, lock down bar, legs, coin door etc.) Again it's a personal choice. [quoted image][quoted image]

Such a clean look. Love the green rubber as well.

Joined the club again. Picked up an Addams Gold to put beside my current Addams Gold. This one is #8 and had batteries with 2012 date codes on the board that haven’t leaked.

Need some expert advice on my pair of Addams Gold games. Both are actual gold games with collectors edition plates.

I got no 0738 in 2019 and it was a reimport. Playfield is vibrant with deep orange cloud but showed some wear at scoop like most do. Mansion was clean. Serial number label shows a build date of 4/27/94 and the pf has a mar 28 94 date code. I have the certificate for this game.

I got game no 0008 this week thinking it might have a repro pf. Orange cloud wasn’t quite as dark, more yellow orange. But looking closely this pf has a oconto falls, Wisconsin label same as my other gold game. Both built by Burkel inc with matching phone numbers on both playfield edges.

Game 008 is a domestic game built 5/6/94 on the serial number tag. Pf has a Dec 15/95 date code. No certificate for this game.

So are both of these original gold playfields? I thought game 008 might be a pf swap because it showed no wear at scoop or elsewhere and orange cloud color was a bit lighter than the other game.

Both games have the collectors edition plaques, extra ball buttons, larger snowflake pattern in red carpet area of pf, use optos not leaf switches for flipper buttons.

Game 008 also has numbers matching boards and is missing the relay cube on the main board that ordinary TAF games had. They removed it for the gold run.

Quoted from Miguel351:

I don't think there was truly anything sequential about the commemorative plaque numbering system at Bally, which is also kind of later proven by the whole Cactus Canyon numbering fiasco. I would imagine they saved the lowest numbers for the Bally employees. With the late date code on number 8, I'm thinking they either saved the employee gifted TAFGs until the end of the run, or that might have been a warranty replacement of some kind. The latter is kind of hard to believe, though, with such a special model game. Or, maybe they ran all the cabs at once, installed all the boards and electronics, then perhaps had playfield issues towards the end of the run that necessitated a new run late in '95. Then, when those PF's came in, they installed them and finally let the game out the door.
A nice little mystery, no matter what, that's for sure!

I agree that nothing about these was sequential and a late build makes sense for a special or employee game. I’m was mostly just interested in opinions on if the playfield is original based on me thinking it could be a replacement due to it having no wear and lighter color in the orange cloud area. Based on the stamps and dates though I now think it is all original.

Quoted from DumbAss:

Not all playfields were manufactured identically. There is a large variance between the companies that were contracted to make the playfields.
http://www.hsapinball.com/HSA_PINBALL/PF_Production.html
After that you have think about "nature versus nuture" = "manufacturing versus exposure".

I’m not complaining to hear these are original. I just had a hard time believing it at first. These pf are both the same manufacturer Burkel Inc. Oconto falls WI 54154 (414)846-8453. They are both stamped as such. One was March of 94, the other was Dec ‘95.

The more faded or yellowed pf on the right is off the serial number 8 game that looks much cleaner, wasn’t drilled for a lock bar, didn’t have coin mechs installed, and looks brand new.

Wish I knew more of both games history.

I finally removed my ramp to install new ramp flaps. During reassembly I wrapped all the exposed wire on the ramp in black 1/4” split loom. Cheap to buy on Amazon and really cleans up the look of all the exposed wires.

Is there any difference between the magnet burn protection kits that are out there. Between eBay, Marco and pinball life they are all various prices. My gut says there isn’t much of a difference but just want to make sure my new playfield is well protected

I like this board better than the in line fuses I typically see. Just feels like a cleaner solution.

I remember seeing a pinsider here looking for a factory TAF with mixed gold and regular cabinet decals. Found one on location at helicon brewery. Could probably be bought as I’ve picked up several games from them.

Could have been a new head switched later in life but the wear seems consistent across cab and head.

Quoted from CLEllison:

Thanks everyone who replied. I think the chrome and the black look equally good. Both handprint nightmares lol.
I'm pretty amazed at the quality of the playfield mine has ... considering it was routed and no doubt had the absolute hell played out of it, that diamond plate has held up beautifully. Very very little wear. And not only routed but the front of the cabinet has been altered / damaged. Cabinet separation was "fixed" by screwing the face into the sides and then several bolt holes. I found Phoenix Arcade is willing to sell only the face decal (everyone else gets pissed asking for single decal). So to fix this properly I plan on using a heat gun to remove the original decal. Pull the screws, make a countersink hole, put the screws back in. Then bondo over the screws and fill in all the damn bolt holes. Sand it all down nice and smooth, paint the bear wood gloss black and then apply the decal. Does that sound legit? Open to suggestions.

I took your idea and reached out to classic arcades for a front face decal for my safecracker as the rest of the cab is in good shape. They replied that I could get it for $75. Glad you thought of asking.
