Gray on the back.
The white one goes inside on the right side above the power box or under the shooter rod

Gray it is. One more thing. Can one of you guys snap a pic of this decal on the back. I have a brand new one to apply, and need to see where it goes.
Thanks.

I have a question on the flippers from a 92 TAF.

All four of the flippers seem to be a tad weak when hitting the ball, at least compared to my Funhouse. And when you hold the flippers up, it takes little effort to force them down by hand while still be powered. They just seem very limp even if the ball strikes them are when being held up. By contrast, it takes a great deal of effort to force down the flippers when being held on my FH. Big differences here. Is this behavior normal for TAF Fliptronics1?

All four coils are brand new, as well as the flipper switches and the EOS switches. I did replace a transistor on the Fliptronics board too. I don't think there are any wiring issues.

So they do work and you can certainly play a game, but the glaring issue again is how weak they are when they remain powered and in the up position. That just does not seem normal to me.

Thanks

#4510 2 years ago

Have you measured the voltage to your Flipper coils?

My TAF reads 82VDC

#4511 2 years ago

New to the club, just acquired TAF with a package deal on a No Fear and NGG, all for the price of a NGG for the most part.

The game is in really nice shape some fading on the cabinet. None of the opto's seem to work (no errors given other than to indicate they have a problem). I'll work thru the issues.

Question, I searched and did not find anything. This may be sacrilege, but has anyone made, on their own a alternate translite maybe using the 1964 TAF? Black and White? Thought it may be fun just for something different. Hersey? BW or Color maybe?

Pretty sure the grey one but the Gold likely got the white. At least my TAF is grey.

I’m seeing the same grey on both inside and outside on the TAF I’m working on now. Mine was too. I believe white as Gold or later runs?

Questions on GI strings 2-(insert house) and 3-(insert people). Do these two strings have any on/off action during gameplay? Or do they remain turned on absolutely all of the time?

I had to repair some seriously jacked up GI-wiring on the connectors, and I have it fixed now from what I can tell. But GI Strings 1-Left PF) and 5-(right PF) show action like toggling during multi-ball, but again, strings 2 and 3 are on all the time no matter what. Is this normal behavior for all the bulbs in the backbox?

Thanks

I had something interesting happen today which I've never seen before or read about in any rulesheet. After scoring a jackpot you need to relight the jackpot by shooting the vault. I had 3 balls on my left flipper, of which 2 went into the bookcase at the same time. I got awarded a super jackpot without shooting the ramp

#4521 2 years ago

Hi, Family members! I’m new to the club, just picked up my first TAF yesterday. Very nice condition overall and was previously restored. But I’ve got 2 issues…first, the left flipper is wonky. It feels weak about half the time, and sometimes it doesn’t flip at all, or it drops while I have both flippers held. I already replaced the Fliptronics board with a new board (no luck) and installed a new flipper coil (no luck). Any ideas? I’m going to replace the switch stack next, but I’m not convinced it’s that.

Second, all 4 bookcase optos are out. Tech warnings to “check bookcase opto switch 1 (2,3,4). I checked the connection to the opto board and although it’s loose, it’s seated. Anyone have this happen or have a suggestion?

Thanks!

I'm having a strange issue where my upper left flipper is pulsing. Any ideas?

Tried new coil and replaced tip102 transistors on flipper control board.

Hey all
What’s the best source for cabinet decals these days?

#4530 2 years ago

I used these and they went on flawless. Also I think they are screen printed and not printed. I researched too, and these were more recommended than others.

Looks like prices have recently jumped...of course.

Something nutty going on here.

When the second ball is locked in the swamp. My TAF absolutely WONT kick the third ball into the shooter lane UNLESS the coin door is open.

Defintely has something to do with the white interlock switch that detects door open or closed. It just started doing this out of the blue. But it's repeatable every single time.

Leave the door open and the 3rd ball kicks out like it should everything. Freaking weird.

I am also seeing some intermittent issue with switch 53 bookcase opto1. Wonder if it's related.

All switches in the swamp and trough test out perfectly.

Had my super tech come out and go over everything. He fixed the common 5v power issue and replaced a diode, that’s all it was. Now it’s playing 100% and looking sparkly. Will get Voodoo glass next, and new dome topper. Will enjoy it for now, but it might be available before long. Gotta find a spot for CCr. Tough choice. It’s a great pin!

The stock GI appears to be very dark. Has anyone upgraded just the GI (not the inserts) to warm LEDs? (I'm not a fan of cool white).

I just installed full warm white (2-diodes) in TAF. It is better lit, but still not uniformly lit. IMO, TAF needs at a minimum a pair of spot-lights mounted to the back bolts of the sling, and possibly a couple more near the back. That should light things very nicely. Of course you could go Stadium Lights, but I personally don't like them for the classics. YMMV.

Friday night and I’m playing terrible. Might as well do some maintenance. Remove the ramp. Get a nice IPA. Replace the dome shaped rubber by the pops. Green this time.

Drill out the old ramp flaps. Use them as templates to cut new ones. Punch out holes. Clean rust off ramps. Rivet the new ones with my new press from pinrestore.

Reinstall ramps after cleaning and waxing playfield. Grab another beer and play.

Wow, your hole punch tool looks sharp!
If selfmade it would very well fit here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/show-and-tell-your-diy-homemade-tools
Do you mind sharing some more pics and also hole diameters? The punches are flat on their bottom side?

Not homemade. Harbor freight punch set. About $40. Yes the punches are flat. It works great for making ramp flaps. I just use the old flaps to determine hole size and location.
