Quoted from metal-mods:

Custom set of chrome vinyl decals I made for the pop bumpers:

Those look phenomenal.

I noticed something I'd never seen before the other day. A 5 million point award for a three way combo? I just recently went back to original roms, was that combo not on the gold roms or did I just never notice it before?

Three way 5,000,000 point for hitting off the right bottom flipper, all the way through the graveyard then up the left ramp. Four way 10,000,000 combo for doing all the above but then hitting the ball from the small flipper into the swamp. Not able to do that often.

Is that on both the original and the gold roms?

#1254 7 years ago

Can't say as I don't have gold. Would think so.

I recently acquired a TAF and it has been such a fun game for me and the whole family. I'm glad to join the club!

I have a couple of questions.

1) The machine has LEDs and the swamp kickout flasher is out. It looks to be a 5 smd 906, but I noticed the ones I see online say 13vac whereas the one I pulled is labeled 13vdc. Any suggestions or advice?

2) Recently the music started fading in and out during play and I have a message during test mode of "sound board u9 ram error". I'm assuming this is related since the message showed up around the same time the music started fading during gameplay. I'm new to pinball and trying to gather as much knowledge as possible, but thought you guys may be able to boost me in the right direction.

The 3- and 4-way combos for 5M and 10M are in the gold roms as well.

Found a fellow Pinsider that repairs boards and conveniently enough lives about 5 miles away from me….

I assume you're talking about borygard? Yes, he is the man!

#1260 7 years ago

Well I'm all done other then the ColorDMD that will go in the end of this week. I'm happy with the outcome of it. Got most of the toys off. I still have to pull the chair and get that silver paint off it. Enjoy!

Nice machine Philly. What light(s) did you use behind the tv antenna on the backglass to make it look like it is flashing? Looks really cool.

Thanks! That is just the analog blinker bulbs back there. 455's. I just ordered some blinking led's for there to see how they work out. Those were the only lamps I didn't swap to LED.

#1263 7 years ago

Philly nice job, makes me want one even more.

Looking for TAF, any one selling.

Thanks! This one will be for sale I think soon. I have the colorDMD coming by the end of the week. I was gonna set it up nice and play it for a bit then maybe sell it. I'd love to get some funds up for a Batman 66! I was going to wait till I played Batman 66 to make sure I like it first.

#1265 7 years ago

Couldn't wait until I got home to join the club!
More to come.

OK.... got her home and plugged her in.... nothing. So i start checking the usual culprets. Nothing. Im looking in the bottom of the cab and i see something funny.... could that be corrosion. Sigh, gotta remove the playfield. Low and behold it is corrosion. But just in this corner wtf? Can anyone point me to the part number or at least the name of this friggin thing?

Looks like a standard ac cord. Easy enough to replace. The box is just a plastic housing should clean up using mean green. Have you taken a look at your back box? How do your boards look?

#1270 7 years ago

That's what I don't get.... The boards are SUPER clean. It's just this corner

That is crazy just to have corrosion in that spot.
Nothing on the underside of the playfield near that corner has anything either.
Have not seen this before.

Yeah it's really weird. I've never seen this either

#1273 7 years ago

Lurch, take a pic of your batteries on your cpu board also remove them to see if theres corrosion there. I had a seller hide the corrison from me during a sale. It drip onto the backside of the playfield and onto the ac housing just like you are showing in your pic.

Yeah its just on one of the battery prongs. Ill just remove it and go with NVRAM.

These batteries have been there for years. She didnt know it even had batteries. I was fairly thorough about checking everything, but i never thought to check back there. Oh well, its cleaning up fairly easily. Im just gonna replace the ground braid.

#1275 7 years ago

Lets us know how it turns out.

#1276 7 years ago

Will do!

Just sanded that bracket down and already applied first coat of paint. Vacuumed the inside of the cab. And swapped that awful single mech coin door with a spare WPC coin door i had in storage. (ill take it back off shortly and clean it up).

NVRam is the ONLY way to go on these WPC machines. I've found both my TAF and T2 had damage to traces under the chips that are just under the battery holders. Someone at one time installed sockets on mine and didn't clean the little tiny bit of acid damage that was there properly and it ate off 2 traces and destroyed the socket pins under the socket so to the eye all looked well. I cleaned it all up and installed NVRam. So far to date, I have'nt found a WPC without some sort of issue from leaky batteries. You have to be nuts to run batteries in these games! Get them out and do NvRam!! For the price alone it's not worth it to run batteries. I have it in all my pins. It lasts 35 years. Someone else will own it by then!

Test some Goo Gone on the back side (down low and invisible while playing) - I'm pretty sure it will not cloud the topper plastic BUT it should remove that tape residue ...

Philly, what version of color dmd are you using? Lcd or Led?

Looks like you have corrosion on some of the pads below the leaking battery. That whole area needs to be neutralized before the alkali starts eating through traces.

Quoted from terryb:

Yup! Just the left battery leaked (battery says: good until 7/2017, lol). I plan on taking it out tonight and removing the holder and hitting the board with some vinegar and simple green.

#1287 7 years ago

1. Vinegar (neutralizes alkali).
2. Distilled water (flushes off the vinegar).
3. Alcohol (the alcohol will displace the water and prevent future corrosion).

#1288 7 years ago

Navram....you have to install socket first, or is this plug and play? I really want to get rid of all my batteries. These past posts making me do inspections. It's amazing how fast a couple years fly by without checking batteries.

For WPC boards the RAM is soldered in. It needs to be de-soldered and a socket installed to take the NVRAM chip.

This is a delicate job and not for the casual solderer, IMO.

Lots of techs can do this for you.

Love that game! Is that your Labnip? Played one at Disney many years ago.

#1299 7 years ago

Got my TAF delivered today! This one is MUCH nicer than my first one. I added the LED color DMD, and now that I've got one machine with an LED display and another (Monster Bash) with LCD, i've gotta say, I think LED looks better if you prefer dots. I'll be ordering an LED display for my Scared Stiff as soon as they're back in stock.

I also installed mirror blades, and some additional lighting. I can't decide if I like the blues in the back. I may tone that down with some cool whites.
