I'm working on a squawk & talk board that got hit with over voltage. I bought the machine as a project and my guess is the 5V got over voltage as all the boards have problems. This board makes some sound but has lot of high pitched screeching. I can heard the background/feature sounds and all the "talking" sounds like static. The LED flashes correctly. It has been recapped and needed a new 2002 amplifier. All the socketted chips test good in another board. Any good guesses on how to proceed?

Bump for ideas. I have a working board and could try swapping chips.

But you said that all of the socketed chips work in another board. Swapping now would be pointless.

Have you changed the OEM sockets?

    Have you replaced the opamps?

I thought maybe a chip that is not socketed could have blown. I have not checked the opamps, what position are they at? I can also check the schematic to see.

The two LM3900's are the opamps. U13 and U14.

I put in new LM3900 with no effect. I am out of ideas if anyone has suggestions.

It is best if you could upload a video of
the board and press the test button so
the technicians could get a better grasp
    of what is going on.

I don't know if a video would help. It does boot normally as far as the flashes go. I have another board to compare it to.

Then scope and compare the signals between the two boards.

Pull U8 and clean off all the gook from the legs. Carefully, very carefully...
