I ocassionally work on one location and their arcade equipment. I was offered payment in the form of their Space invaders pinball machine in fair shape. I am a wpc guy otherwise and at more than full capacity (but there is always room for "one more" machine). Is Space invaders a worthy example of an A list title of that era (I know that Centaur, Fathom and Xenon are better) or should I skip it and add another game from that period? They also have FH (not interested in), Skateball, Zaccaria Moon flight EM and Taxi (my first choice but they are not ready to part with it yet).

I dont think its an "A" list of that era - skateball is a good game, I would take the Fun House all day long over all those titles. Centaur and Fathom are def. the "A" titles in my opinion.

Even though Space Invaders and Funhouse are both LED games, I'm not sure I would categorize them the same. The last few years of pre-DMD games (including Funhouse and Taxi) are in a different league, being more similar to the early DMD games. Out of late 70's to mid 80's LED games, Space Invaders is excellent. Paragon, Genie and Space Invaders are my favorite REAL wide body games.

Not by a long shot. SI is a very pretty game, but it gets boring fast.

From that era, I think my favorite game is Eight Ball Deluxe. Eight Ball is also cool btw.

Space Invaders has a cool theme and infinity glass but that's it. It's a widebody Silverball mania and they are both boring.

It's not an "A" game for that period. However, it is a fantastic location and competition game! When on location, paying to play, you hammered away at that center horseshoe to collect specials every other trip through. If you have a couple of good balls, you can rack up double-digit credits.

Playing with friends, competing, makes SI shine! You want to get the red invaders for the super bonus and then multiply it....but if you're getting smoked you can risk the clone chamber and press it to 50K a shot! You can make up ground in a hurry at 50K a pop.

So no, not as fun/entertaining as other Ballys from the era, but a solid effort, with good sounds, integrated backbox lights, ascending heartbeat, flipper "fire" noise and a timed drop target shot.

I like mine! Bought it in '90 and it's still here.

There was an SI near me on location for many years (it was right beside an EM Wizard). Overall, it was a decent time waster, and a fantastic looking piece, but it is largely a slow, plodding game without a whole lot of shots. The playfield is mostly wasted space.

If I had the opportunity to snag one for a low price (or free), I'd probably take it. It is somewhat collectable and I like it as an art piece, but it's not really a fun player machine.

If the FH is an option, I'm sure there are plenty of people who would be willing to trade you something else for it since that one is fairly desirable (more so than SI).

Thank you for all your answers. I think that I ll pass it due to being at full capacity. Regarding the FH, (unfortunatelly) I do not have the time to deal with trades (besides that I already own two FH machines).

I was going to say FH IS a WPC, just not DMD.

I like SI. I think it's a good game, and it looks amazing.
