Nice! Your game looks really nice.

For those that don't know, there is a difficulty adjustment you can make at the 70 point hole. I'd describe it as hard vs. even harder. Great game.

I finally joined the club!
Big thanks to jeffc for coming over today and giving me a hand with it. I was intimated by the steppers, but we completely disassembled one and cleaned it...after which it worked properly.

Glad to help! Gotta love EM repairs which are just a bit of observation, time and some cleaning.

Well, looky here. A redemption game masquerading as a Skill Roll. Unfortunately, I ran out of quarters before I noticed it or I would have played it.

Quoted from tstone:

...#1 Problem: Sticky coin levers/actuators...
#1 Solution: ...pull the whole lever/actuator assembly out. Soak it in naphtha....

Indeed. I just did this on a few sluggish switches on mine. It improved the action without needing to bend the *very thin* switch blades (although I did adjust one set of blades). Thanks for the tip.

Quoted from gutz:

... When a non active row switch is hit, by the second nickel, I believe the game will tilt. This is normal behavior.

I believe non-active row switches are simply ignored. However, 2 coins at once down an active row *may* cause a tilt.

Schematic:
http://www.pinrepair.com/arcade/bskillr_sch.pdf

It appears that a tilt can occur (tilt light ON, Anti-cheat relay OFF) in four instances:

1) when game is first turned on
2) during a game if slam switch opens
3) briefly, during next game's coin-up procedure and
4) if a cheater sends two coins on same active row into 10 and 30 scoring holes or into 20 and 30 holes while score motor is still turning/counting.

Of course one could also see a tilt if the game is not working properly such as failure at a lock-in switch or with loss of power due to bad fuse holder or broken wire/solder.

Did you see the entire episode? I road in that 1911 (I believe is the year) car.
It's near by. I've been over to John's many times..

I did not see the full episode, but that is super cool

Quoted from per3per3:

Mine stopped holding the nickel as well when you beat the game. What's the fix? If possible, please post your fix with a few pics.
Thanks!

That plunger at the bottom of the game is spring-biased outward to block the nickel’s exit. When the game is off, it should be biased outward. If it is not, then the plunger/spring is messed up.

If it pulls in at ANY time other than briefly during game reset, then a switch on your coin relay needs attention. This switch with gray-yellow and yellow wires should only close during reset and is responsible for pulling in the plunger against the spring.

Quoted from BlackCatBone:

The "kick plate" (or foot, as you might call it) was originally the same gray color as the cabinet. Kick plates that are black have been colored that way to cover paint loss, but, originally, they would have been the cabinet color. That's what I think.

I'm leaning towards it originally being a black bottom as the flyer for the related game Skill Parade shows black. Not conclusive however. There is a Bob Herbison in Florida who allegedly owns a HUO Skill Roll, but I don't have his contact info to ask him.

Quoted from edward472:

No fuse goes there

This is correct. Only 1 fuse total between these top two locations. Only time one would put a fuse in the second spot (and without the top spot) is if the location's power at the wall was low.

BlackCatBone beat me to it - too slow.

Quoted from gliebig:

Finally grabbed one. Very nice condition. I just need to fab up the coin guard piece in the back and fix the bell coil.
When is the bell supposed to chime? My knocker works fine.[quoted image]

I need a coin catcher as well. What is your plan for fabbing? Can I get in on one?

Chime for 50 points, bell on all other scoring.

Nice looking example you got. Congrats!

“tricky tracks”

#851 2 years ago

If you get no score on row 2, but your row counter indeed is at its 2nd position, I would manually trigger each playfield switch on row 2, especially the 50pt switch. While you trigger each playfield switch on row 2 I would observe the associated scoring relay. Does it move at all, even a quick twitch?

Does the score motor ever turn at all when you have this problem?

If none of the scoring relays activate, even briefly, I’d look at the row counter’s finger contact with the rivet. Do you have good spring-biased connection and clean contacts there?

You could also manually engage the row counter step up solenoid to move it to the row 3 position and see if any row 3 playfield switches will score.

#854 2 years ago

If you are playing a game and you get no scoring on row 2, stop flicking the nickel and actuate the playfield switches from the rear of the game.

Here is a pic of mine. Looks to be a 7(?)84152 coil number on the wrapper.
If you'd like I can take mine apart and get pics/dimensions of the plunger and spring and an ohm reading of the coil. But it might be a few days as I am pretty busy right now.

Quoted from cait001:

I think I've only made the 70 point shot a few times in my life. I'm starting to think my tracks were modified to make it nigh impossible!!!

Possibly. There is a difficulty adjustment you can make at the 70 point hole. I'd describe it as hard vs. even harder.

Quoted from cait001:

how do you make the adjustment? In the photo you posted is that the hard or harder setting?
After I made my post I went and played 5 games of Skill Roll, and not only did I make the 70 I made the 80 LOL

egyptrus has you covered on how to adjust. I have it adjusted as easy as possible (down position).

The row counter unit determines which row can score. Other rows will not score. Is your row counter unit incrementing ok or getting out of sync with the row where the coin is?

Quoted from G35R6:

This instruction card is great. I just need it to say a little something about only playing one nickel at a time.
I've discovered this a few times after my daughter and her friends "enjoyed" the game room.

That card above is my re-creation. And like you, I have kids that jam up the machine so I made this card as well:

I put the PDF here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8pt6mavld8o2m66ur0ssr/1-nickel-at-a-time.pdf?rlkey=2o30n1oqrcok2k0x81f251xmn&dl=0

But yes - nobody reads cards
