I think I’m going to sell my Skill Roll. I've had this for 10+ years. Its in original condition with patina'd original paint and wood work, new bezel/marquee (but have flaked original). No missing parts. Only issues are the original score motor is bad (still have original motor) and the replacement I put in is the same series of motor but the wrong gear ratio so it scores 20% slower and 2 of the handle screws are not the original gulmite screws. Plays 100% otherwise. I am located in Minneapolis. Message me a serious offer. I think it will go on eBay if I don’t get any offers in the next few days. Thanks!

Oh, I have the coin chute cover (not in the pictures).

What do you all think is a fair price? I was thinking something like $5k

#1121 1 year ago
Quoted from DanMarino:

Dang, I had no idea those things were that expensive. Guess I'll never be getting one of those. Someone should be able to remake those things for $1,500.

Now that's funny. I'll gladly buy 900 of these $1500 Skill Roll reproductions.

Quoted from snyper2099:

I wish all the luck in the world to the seller. I actually thought everyone that really wanted one has already found one (or two) of these games. Last one I bid on "pre-pandemic" was non working one in similar condition for 3300 and I was outbid by 200, last second. I think I've come to my senses as of late, I just don't see myself buying one at this point.

I think the values of these are all over the place. I've seen restored ones for over $8k, and projects for as low as $3k. I think ebay might be the great equalizer on something rare like this.

#1124 1 year ago
Quoted from snyper2099:

Don't laugh. Someone did actually reproduce them... but I think he only ended up making one or two of them. They DID NOT cost $1500, they were actually cheaper than that IIRC.

It is laughable honestly. I have decades of manufacturing experience. There is no way someone could reproduce these for $1500. I'm not even sure you could get just the materials for that much less pay yourself for all the time involved.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Just take a step back and actually look through this thread. All the info on the build is right in here.

lol, my offer still stands. I will buy $1,350,000 worth of $1500 skill roll reproductions. Surely there will be competing parties vying for the chance to be a millionaire!

Quoted from snyper2099:

No one wants your flaming BS in here. Take this "Skill Troll" shit somewhere else. For those that care, here's a picture of the "impossible to repro for $1500" Dudah Repro... yes, it does work quite well. And to be fair, I have no idea what the "materials cost"... that was not my statement. Sometimes it's a labor of love and the cost or value in something is not calculated with cash.

Easy mate, just relax. No need for personal attacks. I’m sorry I am questioning your logic but do you really think telling someone that can’t afford the market rate range of the game (~$3k-$8k) to just ‘make the game yourself for $1500 because someone did once’ is a reasonable suggestion? Take a look at the available replacement part costs available for skill roll or the costs of an empty bare bones arcade/pinball cabinet. At the very least, you are REALLY downplaying the skill, tools, and time required to pull something off like that. Not to mention it will not be original.

Another example is there is a company called Retro Arcade Remakes that is about to launch a licensed remake of Taito Ice Cold Beer (sort of the same style of cabinet). It will be priced north of $5k. I bet their costs easily exceed $1500 even at scale.

Quoted from ZooDude:

I'm someone who wants a Skill Roll but doesn't have one yet. I've been watching and bidding on these for the last few years but nothing clicked, last one I had lined up for $3500, not working needing restore, got sold out from under me for $3800. I've never seen one go for $8,000, even in the big auctions with fees, still under $7,000.
Right now is just not a good time for me to take on another project, I just got a Ringer and am restoring a White lightning or I'd bid on this one.
I will say, it really rubs me the wrong way when a seller says it's got broken parts but is "working 100%" if the thing has the wrong motor and doesn't score properly it's not working 100% period.
I'd offer $4 K or maybe a little more for this one if the timing was better for me, I don't see these fetching more than $6-7 grand tops, most pinheads don't know or care about this old oddball stuff. My excitement for old em stuff is almost always met with a blank stare from most pinheads!
Good luck with the sale.
B

Thanks for the additional context on values. I am trying to be transparent about condition. You might have missed the word "otherwise" when I said "plays 100% otherwise". I meant that besides the slow scoring motor, nothing else needs attention. That being said, I tried to edit the post to remove 100% to avoid any confusion but you can't edit a post after 24hrs.

I have not sold my Skill Roll yet. I think I will be posting it on ebay next week.

And to provide some non-sale content in this thread. My Skill Roll was missing the original coin chute cover panel. At some point, someone double sided taped a piece of plywood in there. luckily I was able to remove that with no trace. I designed and had an exact replica made using pre-galv steel (also like the original). If anyone needs one, I could probably have some more made.

Ok, I am willing to make a batch of these coin chute cover panels. I will sell them for $50 + shipping. That price will go down if more people want them. PM me and I will send you payment info.

Also, I listed my game on ebay: ebay.com link: itm

Quoted from DanMarino:

What did DudebroWTF’s Skill Roll sell for? Did it end up selling for $5k or more? The pricing of old amusement gizmos is pretty fascinating to me. I don’t quite understand why certain machines sell for so little or so much.

I posted the ebay link above. The auction is still going. Have you ever played Skill Roll? It's a stand out game compared to many other period pieces. It's addictive and engaging. There is also a rich history of these being on location at bars and supper clubs for decades in Wisconsin and Minnesota where they were very popular at bars/taverns/supper clubs.

My Skill Roll was picked up yesterday. Last call to message me on the coin chute. Chances are this is a once in a lifetime opportunity! jeffc contacted me but I haven't heard from northvibe
