I have schematics on their way, but until then, I am going to pass the question on to you guys. I have a 4-player, 4 digit reel Bally system.
1. All score reels reset to zero on start-up
2. players 2-4 work perfectly. (so far, I have only gotten over 5,000 pts a handful of times)
3. (the problem) player 1 - score advances thru 1,000 as necessary but then the next 100 point scored advances the 1,000 reel to 6,000. When the ball drains, the 1,000 reel advances to 0. until the next 1,000 points are reached and the process repeats.

Any suggestions/comments? should I start with the 100 or 1,000 reel for more in-depth inspection? I'm trying not to disassemble the reels yet, but if I must....

Thanks,

so I have narrowed it down to the 200 pt relay connection to the player 1 - 1000-9000 reel.

Any help tackling this problem or at least where to start is appreciated. i now have schematics, but until I do some more studying, they really aren't providing a ton of help. I have at least traced the connection to the backbox, and visually inspected all of the wire that I can see, but don't really see any problems. no shorted connections or anything.

Hair pulling is about to take effect.

Taking a break from my hee haw issues and going back to the wiggler. Even with schematics, this one is throwing me for a loop. I will snap pic of the schematic area in question so that maybe you guys can figure out the logic that I'm missing.

When the 1000 pt reel reaches 1000, is it skipping to 6000 when the score motor runs? And then again to 0 when the score motor runs?

I'd guess that the 'runout' switch is closing when it reaches 1 (as expected), but the reset path to that score reel still is finding an active path, perhaps through a switch on a reset relay that's not opening fully after reset completes. Then whenever that score reel isn't on 0, the pulses from the score motor switches are still able to run the score reel reset until it reaches 0 again.

But that's without having consulted a schematic, so it's just a suggestion of what to look for.

Schema for the 200 pt relay below.

But now i have another issue. The 1pt relay once energized will not let go. Will not score 1 pt on any player. Worked yesterday when playing. I looked at score motor #10 switch today because it is tied to 200 relay per schematics, but made no adjustments. Next thing i know table is jacked up.

ARRGHHH,

Verified all 1 pt switches on table are open. That is 3 side rebounds and both r and l thumper bumpers. Right out rollover relay is adjisted correctly. (sorry off the 200 pt topic) just frustrated.

Posted prevoiusly while dirtflipper was posting. Here is a breakdown as best as i can describe.

Start game. Scores as usual. 1s, 10s, 100s all fine. Once player 1 (p1 only) reaches 1000+ points, any trigger of the 200 pt relay does not advance by 200, but instead 5,000 points. Hit 200 again, another 5,000 points issued. This is a 4 score reel game so 5061pts would turn to 0061.
Lets say i get to 1125. Ball in play a 100 givea me 1225, but 200 gives me 6125.
Now lets go back to the score of 1125. If i dont get another point and the ball drains, the 1000 reel resets to 0, leaving me with a score of 0125.

Again, this is only on player 1. All other players score correctly.

Df. I can give you pics of the schematic but need to know where to focus the attention. I understand your previous posts logic, but im at a loss as to the runout switch which remains open. I have visually inspected all relays and they seem ok.
Leaning away from score motor because it only happens to player 1.
Idk.

Does getting 200pts run the score motor?

Do you have the section of the schematic for the Player 1, 1000 score reel?

Pretty sure it should close when the reel isn't on 0, otherwise it wouldn't reset at game startup.

2 switches open at 0. Both closed during 1-9.

Great - as expected.

So next check the path that controls the reset of that reel. Part of the path will include one of those switches needing to be closed (indicating it's not at 0 yet).

Yes. 200 pt runs score motor. 200 pt relay holds and 100 pt relay fires off twice, then shuts off resuming play.
Here is 1000 scoring schema.

Gonna check the #1 reset relay and #2 score motor switch stack now. Just saw it in line on the schematics. (but this should also affect player 3 and it doesn't.)

yes, the #1 Reset Relay switch with wire color 14-8 (3rd player uses a different switch on that relay, so wouldn't affect it).

Df, i knew we could get it. Combination of you explaining the logical side and forcing me to look at the right place on the schematics. It was the #1 reset. Problem is fixed. There were two NO circuits that were closed. They were on the second stack (behind the others so it was hard to see).

Now, i still have the new issue of the 1pt relay activating and remaining on. No 1pt scoring happens on any player. Checked playfield switches (all open). Next step is the pop bumpers as they are 1 pointers as well until lit.
Will check back after a beer and thorough investigation.
Cheers,

Excellent, glad that was it then.

More tomorrow then.

Nope, consider this one solved. Fixed the 1pt relay issue. Had a switched gapped too wide. Once adjusted correctly the machine is up and running perfect. (still an issue or two that i worked around in the past but that is for another thread).

Thanks for the help fixing this 3 month old problem....
