Hi everyone , I have attached an image of My Bally score display that has ghosting on the end, it looks like the display might be shot and I don't think any circuit board work will help here. I would just like to get someone to confirm what's going on....thanks in advance!

The first two digits on the right look like they're burnt in the display - there is nothing you can do to fix it other than replacing the glass plasma.
Move it to player 4 if you can live with it.

Thanks Quench! It is in the 4th position, I'm just a perfectionist! Thanks for confirming this. I'm finding it hard to find a place to purchase good used 6 digit bally displays. My credit\ ball display is shot too, so I need 2 of them. Would love to do a set from Pinscore but not in the budget currently...

Try WolfPac displays. https://www.wolffpactech.com/ I have used a couple with great success and the price is right too.

If you want to try just replacing the two bad displays with LED & leaving the rest as plasma, I have two styles of displays that should blend in with your current plasma displays..

If you'd like single displays as DIY Kits send me a PM or email. Currently only have DIY Kits available for full sets on the website.

Thanks for all the input! I will be replacing them soon. Got bored over the weekend and converted an old Alien Star backglass into lightbox wall art. Some scrap pine 1×3's, a $10 led strip light w/remote and a bit of white/black paint....and....Voila!

Went down to play a game tonight and have the same segment missing from the Credit/Ball display. All other displays are OK.
Any ideas on where to look would be appreciated. I unplugged and replugged every backbox connector as well as the display connector. Every 5-10 seconds or so the segment lights up, then out again.

Quoted from Flip-it-good:

have the same segment missing from the Credit/Ball display. All other displays are OK...
Every 5-10 seconds or so the segment lights up, then out again.

Pull out the display, very carefully check the solder connections on the display glass connections to the circuit board. Resolder any that look cracked/fractured.

If they look good, the next thing to check/suspect is the driver transistor for that segment (it's called the 'e' segment). Transistor Q17 on the display board drives that 'e' segment. It's a MPS-A42 transistor. Presuming you don't have spares, I suggest carefully swapping it with one of the other segment driver transistors, say Q15 for example.

If the same problem stays, the next suspect would be the 4543 decoder chip on the board.
If the problem moves to another segment, then that transistor you moved from Q17 is suspect.
If the problem magically goes away, that transistor you moved from Q17 is suspect and might come back down the track.

I re-flowed all the connector pins and all the pins coming from the actual glass display. No change. I actually have a boatload of MPSA42 transistors leftover from repairing my Atari Space Riders. However they don't look anything like the transistors at Q17 the transistors on the Bally driver board have a hole in them and the schematic says Q17 is MCR106-1. Are these equivalent transistors?

I had a bunch of MPSA-42 transistors left over from resurrecting my Atari Space Riders. I put a brand new one in Q17 and no change.

If there's nothing else as far as wiring or continuity to check, I will order that 4543 IC chip on the display board.

Your picture shows Q17 on the lamp driver board, but we want to change Q17 on the display board
The transistors sometimes go intermittent, suspect it before the decoder chip.

I realize my mistake I tried to edit the post earlier but I did replace q17 on the actual display board not the driver board. No change...

Post some clear high resolution pictures front and back of the display board.
