rufessor,

Why does the cab color on your Playboy look purple? All the pics I see with a google search shows the cab color to be more of a pink to match the playfield.

Is yours really a purple or is it something to do with the camera?

Please take lots of pics of the Silhouette in action. It sounds interesting.

Quoted from rufessor:

There is one area I think I have wrong, if you look at the first picture and the girl on the right- look at her right eyebrow, I thought I saw a black line kinda connecting the top of that with her hair so I carefully recreated it but now I am not so sure it should look like that.

I think it looks OK. That is what it looks like on my old PF and my CPR PF. You are doing a nice job.

#46 10 years ago

I can get you some of those shots over the weekend. Those parts of my original PF are in pretty good shape. I'll put up some of the originals and the CPR's.

Pinside seems to be giving problems for multi uploads. THis may take several posts.

Old PF pics are first. Total of 11.

CPR PF last set. For most of these pics, I a probably holding the camera at about a 30 degree angle.

if there are any different shots you need, let me know.

Man, I love digital photography; Instant gratification at its finest.

rufessor,, I hope you are taking lots of progress pics to show us. I am getting excited for you, too.

Me? I finally got around to waxing my play field and keep busy with playing my PB and learning its nuances. I am going to have to clean and replace some light sockets, but I have some bonus lights that are not getting voltage that I need to figure out before I go father.

Quoted from rufessor:

The cracks in the pics are accentuated due to reflection off never played lacquer! They are surface only. Not into color. Wood is excellent!!

I would not worry about the yellowed lacquer. For the most part, it is going to be covered by plastics.

I would get some the the body shop type of Scotchbrite ( not the green stuff you get at Walmart ) , give it a light scuff and prep and lay down some clear.

Nice score.

Thanks!!
I have been finding excuses to walk downstairs and pick it up and look at it. Too bad its cold and rainy today or I think this would be locked down with a light coat of clear. I am very Happy I finished up some landscaping projects and conceivably will have time next weekend!

So now what will you do with the play field that you have spent years working on restoring?

Quoted from rufessor:

The NOS playfield took its first coat of clear today. I spent a good three to four hours fixing the cracks as they were looking like it might have remained a crack in color after filling. So I used all my premix from the old one I am restoring and used a wipe on wipe off technique to fill all cracks with the right color and then remove all other paint. Here it sits ready for clear.
And at the same time I am locking down work on the original from this game. Its in sad shape compared to the NOS. So amazing to have this!! Pic show both play fields just before clear coat.[quoted image][quoted image]

For the last 6 years I have been following your efforts on your beat up play field. How about grabbing one of the pics when you were just getting started so we can see actually how far you came from.

Quoted from rufessor:

And here is the one I am restoring. I think thos is the third (fourth?) coat and it laid down really close to flat. One more to cover next art layer and I maybe will have it flat. This one started out ugly. Its not done (clearly) but will look nice enough to install in a game some day. Not sure what game as I dont need two but I could see this finding a game some day and until then I can work in it slowly (obviously!) and I can use it for art... not sure its fate yet. Lots of time![quoted image][quoted image]

Well, you now have a nice copy. You could scan the areas and make decals to place on the old one. Cover things up a bit.

Quoted from rufessor:

I love this spray gun. I got this a year or so ago and its absolutely a joy to use. I spray from about 4-5 inches away and ovelap at about 5 inches on fan center. Its a touch ip and body panel gun, so perfect for pinball sized work in my opinion. It also is a compliant gun and runs at 29 psi and has very low overspray so clear consumption is notably less for me than with a prior gun.[quoted image]

The suspense is killing me. What brand of gun is it? And where do you buy it?

#226 4 years ago
Quoted from rufessor:

Its a Devilbiss SRI Pro spot repair gun. I got the combo package with two tips.

I purchased from amazon a while ago. Also- you need to get the “deKupps” system. Its friggin amazing. Keeps it so clean and easy to load the gun and mix the clear- super efficient zero waste system. Its a little spendy to get it going and the widely availalble package includes all you need to try it. Dont try it unless you are prepared to buy more. Its amazing how simple mixing clear, spray and clean is using deKupps.

Thanks for this info. But that one is a little bit out of my budget.

Quoted from rufessor:

Yeah... It took me years of waffling and debating to pry loose the funds for this. It cost more than almost every game I own in terms of what I spent to acquire them!! Sadly, you can easily spend double even this, spray guns are friggin expensive.
I will say that in terms of the final product- many lower priced options end up producing the same finish more or less. I did notice that money does seem to buy a gun that just works- no screwing around.

I got my HLVP gun at a pawn shop. Graco branded. Worked great. Couple of weeks ago I was shooting some 2-part paint that keeps forever as long as you keep in canned. I was shooting one day and all was well. I left the paint in the cup over night. The next day, when I went to do more shooting, the fan control was out of whack and I could not adjust it at all. It is blowing full on air to the fan adjustment holes. I had to tape over those holes just so I could shoot. But now I have a 2" wide fan to deal with. Don't ask me. I don't know I lost control of the fan from sitting overnight.

If I can't fix it I am going to have to buy something else. I may give Harbor Freight a chance.
