    Hi,

What will it take to use a Bally Nitro Ground Shaker MPU in a Stern Meteor? I assume I will have to replace some ROMS, possibly?

Great idea - I never even though about a post to get a quick answer. Good Luck!

Which MPU is in your NGS?

    The -17 or -35?

Yes, you will need to replace the ROMs. Each game has its own set of ROMs. If you have an EPROM burner, you can burn them yourself.

Note that there are different types of ROMs and EPROMs, so it's not just a matter of moving them from one board to another. You need to make sure the board is jumpers correctly, otherwise the EPROMs/ROMs won't work.

Then there's the matter of converting the board, either on your own like here:

    http://pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Bally/Stern#Converting_a_Bally_-17.2C_-35_or_Stern_-100_CPU_Board_to_a_Stern_-200

Or with this conversion adapter here:

You can also buy a refurbished MPU or after-market MPU instead.

I haven't bought the board yet, I just wanted to make sure it's possible. I'm able to get it for $55 shipped, but I'm not sure if it'll be worth it. I feel like it may be more expensive to convert the board than to buy a refurb, what with buying the EPROMs and the burner. I'm not afraid to mess with that stuff or solder in jumpers, it's all about the cost.

Received the Bally -35 board from MJW today! Now I need the conversion kit and the correct ROM set.

The conversion kit and EPROMs came in from barakandl arrived in the mail today! It only took 10 minutes to install. The longest part of the install was waiting for the soldering iron to heat up. Installed the EPROMs and then soldered in the replacement 220pf caps. A big thank you to MJW & barakandl for the great deals!

You can remove the PROM at U1 just in case it fails and locks up the CPU. Also looks like the jumpers need changed. Check this chart out on pin wiki. You want jumpers for 2732 @ u2 and u6
