Joining the Mystic Club!

Mine has the 3D eye. #1265.

Not playable until the right flipper is fixed. The scores look like spaghetti, but player one is ok. Have a tech coming out to give the machine a going over. "He's a good man, and thorough."

Thinking of getting the 7 digit led displays from XPin so it'll keep better track of high scores. Any thoughts on that?

My Mystic is up & running! Just needs some fine tuning.

#27 4 years ago
Quoted from Xenon75:

Great spinner sounds when they are lit!

That's one of my favorite parts of the game.

#29 4 years ago

Very nice!

#30 4 years ago

I've read that the characters are supposed to be famous magicians. Anyone know who the main guy with the wand is supposed to be?

#32 4 years ago

My wife thinks it looks like Vincent Price. She loves Vincent Price and now I have pinball machine

At the Christmas party last night, they had clear acrylic ornaments and markers for drawing your own ornament.

Quoted from Zombo:

I'm an amateur magician, a

Me, too! Or I used to be. The basic slights & forces. I had every trick that was under $5.00 (half of my weekly lunch money) at Douglas Magicland when I was a kid. I did some parties, not too many. If I’d have had a mentor, I’d have probably stuck with it.

We got friendly with the family across the back, when they moved in, a few years ago. Young kids. I found my old thumb tip & bought some sponge balls. It was fun.

When do these lamps light up? (Circled on the image)

The lamp to the left is same player shoots again. The one to the right seems to be general illumination, but I'm not sure.

The bottom bit of the back glass was taped over by the previous owner, so no light shines through. The glass doesn't illuminate there. Seems like clear tape would have worked as well to keep the art from deteriorating as the tape he used.

While we're chatting... how high do you have the back legs on your Mystic? Mine are at their max height on 3" leg levelers. Thinking of going to 4" because it seems too easy to get the captive ball to its target. Other than that, I am happy with the game play and feel like I might leave well enough alone. Is the captive ball an easy shot on your machine?

I just got new pop bumper covers from Pinball Resource. The eye triangle inlay is gold colored. It is silver on the old ones. Maybe the gold has faded to silver over the years, on the old ones. What color are yours?

#41 4 years ago
Quoted from aobrien5:

I've got 3" and backhanding the captive ball is probably 50/50. If you hit it solid, it should hit the target every time.

Then mine is set correctly. Was thinking of adjusting the target switch to make it harder to close, but I’ll let it be. On the Mystic at BOS, you needed a very good hit, so that was all I had to go by.

Someone in California has a Mystic on eBay for $6,000. Blue led displays, cool white LEDs GI, best as I can tell.

Looks like it has the cut out eye, but hard to see in the pics.

Looks like the number has been refinished off of the side.

I was going to say that $6,000 seems high, but if you take a $1,300 playable machine and charge full retail for the recondition job, with shipping included “free”, maybe that’s about right.

I’m not in favor of the blue displays or the cool white LEDs, was just saying that’s how the seller has it. If the plasma displays were shot, there are displays available that look close to the plasmas.

If I was restoring a cabinet, I’d make sure the number on the side was maintained or recreated.

#48 4 years ago

Anyone know at what machine number Bally went from the inset eye to the screened eye? Mine is 1265, and it is inset.

#50 4 years ago

Yet, mine has the inset and the number on the cabinet matches the number on the head.

#51 4 years ago
Quoted from aobrien5:

even with the labor. A HEP wouldn't go for that much (IMO).

HEP ?

#54 4 years ago
Quoted from BrianBannon:

Given your serial number is 1265, that is within the first 265 games produced, so it fits the description. Keep in mind, Bally started their serial numbers at 1000, so the first game of any production would be 1001 and so on.

Wowzer! You just made my day!!

Should the Mystic backglass have plastic trim around the top and sides? Mine has the bottom piece, but nothing on the top or sides.

#61 4 years ago

Mine has it, after all. Should have verified before I posted.

Oh, my! Does classic playfields have a good rep? I might need this.

#81 3 years ago

I’ll be glad to see it in action on an early backglass. Will we still be able to see the 3D eye & pyramid?

#88 3 years ago
Quoted from XPinPinball:

Concerning the "XPIN" mod with the Plasma Disk, the mod is basically this...
If you are interested in the mod, go ahead and get the backglass you want, and I will send you a link to where you can get the plasma disk. You can always install the mod control board later once I get the firmware complete.

How's the mod programming going? Is this going to be available soon?

Quoted from aobrien5:

Does anyone have the early production light shroud that goes in the inset eye/pyramid that they can send pics/measurements of?

The hole in the plywood is 6 1/4" diameter. My shroud fits loosely inside. Its been taped.

The shroud is 1 11/16" deep.

Repro backglass? A number that early should be the 3D eye

And, Welcome to the club!

#98 2 years ago

From the pic it looked 2D. My apologies. Mystic was my first game, about a year and a half ago. Love it! Especially the sound design. Mine is 1265.

I’d love a new mirrored backglass with the cut out. Mine looks great until you notice the issues along the bottom two inches.

#104 2 years ago
Quoted from kbliznick:

That was the one we restored for Greg here is AZ.

Do you know if he got his price for it?

#107 2 years ago
Quoted from kbliznick:

Greg and a later owner had them listed on pinside in the $3000-$3500 range. Doesn't look like it ever went for that $6k ebay listing.

Ah, the Banning Auction price. Theirs went for $3,200, I think. Don’t know the condition.

I’ve got incandescent in mine. Mystic was my first pin, too. Still love it. Underrated by many.

#117 2 years ago

What are the yellow dots or circles all over the playfield?

5 months later
#129 1 year ago

I might. Lemme check.

#131 1 year ago

I have one. It is yellow and a little cracked around one of the holes.

Here is a pic of my homemade Mystical crystal ball topper. Inside are white and orange leds, wired to the eye & triangle lamps in the 3D bg insert.

Nice find. Stainless acorn nuts on the posts instead of the plastic caps would look real good with the mirror backglass.

#147 1 year ago

Confirming- the hole is 6.25".

The top edge of the hole starts at 11" from the top edge of the board.

The right edge of the hole starts at 9 5/8" from the right edge of the board.
(It might be a 16th inch less than that- I couldn't measure straight across with a rule held against the board because of wood in the way.)

#148 1 year ago

bigfoot53 Are you going with plasma displays or LED (orange or blue?) ?

#154 1 year ago

I was going to get the 7 digit display until I realized I’ve only turned it over once since I had it.

But, I concentrate on completing the board all in one color so I get that knocker going Pop! Pop! Pop!. Love it.

This is an instruction card I made with the info Zombo provided in an earlier post and some new information. I placed it at the bottom left corner of my backglass.

If anyone wants the Word file, dm me with your email address and I'll send it.

It’s a great game. Underrated.

The early games have a black paper tube extending from the cut out to another board with the artwork.

I’ll take a pic of mine, but it will be a few days.
