I have been working on a Lost World and seem to be messing up more as I repair. So... Found the loose wire on the rectifier board and got power to the freshly reworked MPU (Thanks Eugene). Then my ball eject coils craps out. Track that to a bad solder joint on the little black wire on the coil. easy repair. DOH! I forgot to turn off the machine before I resolder the wire. Now the coil ejects the ball nicely but the dragons den no longer registers. The “C” no longer registers. The 1000 point pop no longer fires and any time the ball drains on the far left or right drains it awards same player shoots again. Also. I had the replay set at 10 K for free play. That no longer registers. WTH?

Odd thing is the switches play properly when the game is first started then stop responding after about 60 seconds of play

#5 5 years ago

I reset the award for extra ball and that problem is gone but the other switch issues persist after a few minutes.

#6 5 years ago

Here is the exact switches that stop working after a few minutes of play. What do I repair?

I pulled U10 and a leg fell off! So I replaced the chip. Problem still there. Hopefully in the pins on J2?

#10 5 years ago

I checked the continuity from switch to switch. Good. Checked continuity from last switch to pin at J2. Good (Brown with yellow trace). I am guessing its on the MPU board somewhere since I have also replaced U10?

#12 5 years ago

Switch test is clear flashing 0 I reflowed the solder on the J2 pins I checked cont from pin to R52 Good I can trace Cont all the way to U 10 maybe something failed on the board?

#14 5 years ago

I am out of state at the moment. Eugene Mosch rebuilt all the boards. I will check all this and report back to you next week. Thanks for all of this education friends!

Here’s part of the problem... I can turn it on and it will play just fine for hours ... maybe an entire weekend.... then the next time I play... they quit scoring after 2 minutes of play. So intermittent

The boards were reworked recently

#18 5 years ago

Quench.. So I need to wait until the switches are not scoring and THEN put her into switch test mode? That might take a while as I have to wait till they are acting up. Sometimes a few minutes. Sometimes a week. Lol.

#20 5 years ago

The start button works fine when the switches aren’t scoring. You can still start and play but no score on these switches intermittent ly

Tonight I had it on for about three hours trying to get the error to manifest itself. It was playing fine. I went over every half hour and played a game. Leaving it on the whole time. Eventually I got the error to occur and put it into switch test mode. The whole thing freaked out. All the credits went to zero. The score displays started showing weird numbers with digits missing. It was a wreck. Turned it off and back on. Added credits. Same thing. Game played but the displays were all whacked out with random missing digits. Really getting frustrated

#25 5 years ago

I will check. Now that you mention that...it did freak out as I opened the coin door. ???? Will ck tonight. You think that might be the root of all the evil from the beginning?

#27 5 years ago

At work now. I will jump back into it tonight. YOU are a Bally GOD ! Thanks for helping me with that Mr Mrs Pacman pin last year!!

#30 5 years ago

Here’s the latest. I come home from work. Turn it on cold. Starts and plays fine but this time nome of the 3 switches are scoring so I put it in switch test and get the zero on the match so no errors and the score displays are working fine. So today all is well except the switches acting up. I am snipping the caps on the switches next. Will report soon

#31 5 years ago

Update: clipped a leg on all 3 caps on all three switches. Interesting. Problem with switches not scoring persists but now the center popbumper activates the top left pop. Lol. Maybe the clipped cap on middle pop causing this?

#34 5 years ago

I have not tried closing a switch in test mode.. Will do that tonight and report back . Game was off when I snipped the Caps so no shorting there. The start switch has ALWAYS worked fine throughout all of this. The only other thing I noticed was when I was getting the bad displays the game had been on for 4 hours and when I looked in the back box there was A LOT of heat from and around the power board above the transformer.. Normal? Game plays fine again today just no 3 switches working.

#38 5 years ago

I have repinned before but not the MPU on this game. I hate to buy another MPU if its not the problem. but yes... 200 dollars did cross my mind to get it going.

#40 5 years ago
Quoted from Quench:

If the three switches aren't working, remove the playfield glass and open the back box.
Press and hold the "C" target. With your other hand wiggle the J2 connector at the MPU board. Does the switch start scoring as you wiggle J2 especially the brown-yellow wire at pin 13?

I will have to check this and get back to you.
I had to go work on a friends Stellar Wars last night and I have to deliver a Captain Fantastic tonight (Hate to let this one go but I need the space) and a regatta to sail Saturday and Sunday. I have some questions on that Stellar Wars but I will start a new thread. thanks guys!!!

#41 5 years ago

They do not score when wiggling J2 OR THE BRN Wire w yellow trace

#44 5 years ago

Yes. Tonight it plays fine and all switches score...for about 4 minutes. Then they quit. I turned it off and came back an hour later... they score for about 5 minutes and quit again....

#46 5 years ago
Quoted from Quench:

Grab a piece of wire and strip 1cm from each end.
Insert one end into the J2 connector at pin 13 (where the brown-yellow wire is)
Insert the other end into the J3 connector at pin 14 (where the blue-white wire is)
Both these locations are the "I5" switch return signal at the MPU board (J2 for playfield, J3 for coin door)
If the jumper wire is making good contact in each pin/terminal and the issue goes away, you know the problem is the connector at J2.

I did the wire jumper.. More play field lights illuminated improperly and the switch problem persists. Uhgh.

#50 5 years ago

Last night I turned on the game and just let it sit after an hour and a half the displays were doing all kinds of Wonky stuff. Digits out all over and 100k lights on with no other ones ...weird stuff. So I hit the start button... the game was scoring on both player one and 2 at the same time with different scores... This doesn't sound like a switch or grounding.. Logic i am thinking.. I am just going to buy the Weebly board on here and try that... Thoughts guys????

#51 5 years ago

Weebly board is here.. Just need a moment to install ... will report back....

#52 5 years ago

No dice. problem still here. with new board, That clears that up Still chasing that rabbit. I got more molex so i guess I will repin next.
