I have a Bally Kiss with no sound whatsoever. Voltages on the board are good, caps all test within spec, volume control has been replaced, amp and pre-amp chips have been replaced, and still no sound. Also put a new MPU in for laughs. No change.

Anybody have any suggestions? The Pinwiki doesn't provide a lot of info for these early Bally boards. I am wondering if U3, the sound rom, might be bad. Where can I find those? Thanks!

According to Pinwiki, your Kiss has a AS-2518-50 sound board. Is this correct?

There is a whole section on troubleshooting it here:

I did all that but nothing tested bad. I'm guessing its one of the chips on the board or the rom itself, but can't find anything on further testing of the chips.

Did you also see this link that was in the Pinwiki?

Are you getting any hum from the speaker - does the volume of the hum change when you adjust the volume trim pot? That will first tell you if the output amplifier is working or not.

Quoted from sbmania:

caps all test within spec

How exactly did you test the capacitors?

Post high res clear pictures front and back of the board.

If you are getting any kind of hum, turn the volume up pretty loud temp and see if you can detect a speaker tick every time it should make noise. When the 86L93 blows out, that is a very typical symptom. When I would repair these boards in the past, that chip was by far the most commonly failed thing on the board.

The blue caps might test near the right uF, but they are almost always still going bad being 40+ years old.

Some great testing procedures in this book. Reads pretty easy too.

I am getting a slight ticking when I am supposed to get sound. I will see if I can find an 86L93 and replace it. Any suggestions for a supplier? That's one chip I don't stock.

Put the game in sound test. Check volts DC at the 86L93 pin 11. It should be about 2v or a pulsing signal. If it is solid 5v or high signal, probably bad.
