The Bally Grand Slam and Speakeasy used the awesome, but very unique "flyaway target assembly." (See pic - HOMER, 10 J Q K A) Someone gave me a Grand Slam (nothing more expensive than free! heh), but the posts supporting the assembly were smashed. This feature is central to the game.

After looking high and low with no luck, I thought pursuing 3D printing made sense. But I needed good parts, so I reached out to people with these 2 games in their collection. Corey CaptMonkeyPants was amazing enough to loan me his parts.

Then I contacted a local 3D printer to reproduce the posts, and the targets themselves since a few people were looking for those also. Not inexpensive, but worth it.

If anyone needs the posts or the targets, please let me know. I will produce and sell them very reasonably, just to offset some of the design costs.

Here are a few pics along the way. A million thanks goes to Corey CaptMonkeyPants again for the parts loan!

If you have a game that you can't find parts for, ask your pinside brethren for help and give 3D printing a try!

Super cool! I'll buy some targets to test.

#3 7 years ago

Beauty! Nicely done.

#4 7 years ago

Oh nice! I've been terrified of breaking a target ever since I got my Speakeasy.

Do you have a picture of the 3d printed targets?

I'll probably be interested in buying a set of posts and targets.

Second pic from the bottom shows the reprinted target in white. It works flawlessly. Trying to figure out the best way to put the letters/cards on it. I will try waterslide paper first.

Once I figure out the cost, I will let you know.

Ah I see, your Grand Slam playfield pict is showing repro posts and non-repro flyaway targets..?

That's not the actual pic of the machine, just a pic of the assembly. Here is the actual, with one repro target installed. The repro posts that are working were printed in white, having them redone in blue.

I have a set of playfield plastics and the flyaway assembly for sale including circuit board for flyaway let me know if you want photos

#11 7 years ago

Let me know if anyone needs these reproduced parts:

Posts (pair, 3 pieces) - $35
5 Targets (blank, no print on them, recommend water slide decals for the letters or cards) - $15

Priority shipping is ~ $7

Not making money on this, just covering print costs and design cost.

Added over 5 years ago:

Pricing update on posts - $50 for the complete post set. $20 for the target set. Up due to materials and printer.

Would you share the gccode for the parts?

Possibly, once I offset the design costs. A little ways to go. Not trying to make $. Selling them reasonably just recoup some.

I would definitely be interested in purchasing a set of 5 targets. Just let me know what form of payment you'd like.

Hi!

If the posts and the targets are still available, please let me know. I am strongly interested in buying a whole set.
Pease send me the total cost including the shipping to austria/europe.

(I recently bought a speakeasy4 with the whole assembly missing. Even the resetting coil on the underside of the playfield is missing)

Thank you

Count me in for Grand Slam targets

I have a populated playfield for sale :

Added over 6 years ago: The playfield has complete parts that are being talked about here. Targets are turned upwards and look in perfect shape.

I am curious if the 3D parts are holding up to the impacts from pinball? I have made parts for machines myself but non impact parts, IE linkage for eye movement for RS and FH.

Maybe I missed this in the post as well, are they PLA or ABS?

Any chance on doing another run of the targets?

#23 5 years ago

I too would be interested in another run.

I am still making these as the requests come in for them. The targets are holding up great since they just fold back.

Let me know if you need supports or targets.

Deepest thanks for those who helped me recoup some of the modeling and printing costs to make these parts.

I hereby make the files available to all. I can't post them here as they are not images, so PM me if you need them.

Is there a repository somewhere to post them?

If you need them printed, please let me know, I can still do that for you. Otherwise, go forth in restoration.

By the way, the small screws holding the roof of the whole assembly are difficult to find - as far as I am concerned (Germany) Found a guitar shop selling screws for Humbucker pickups, those do fit (they are just way too long) Screws are UNC 3-48. Originals are panhead slotted, Humbuckers are Phillips. Nobody will know if you change all 4 of them. Picture shows Original, Humbucker, Humbucker shortened.
