I have sore thumbs from all this thumbs upping
Quoted from MrBellMan:This game is going to be sweet! Great job!
When your right, your right
Tim, is there any truth to the rumor that you're going to put a PinSound in this game just to run this?
Quoted from Whysnow:Would it be possibel for you to scan this playfield once you are all done with it.
It could come in handy for others doing restore work on Frontier in the future (esp those with playfields that have bigger issues).
I would be happy to chip in for the cost of a good scanning.
I have NOS frontier scanned in already.

good, you are going to need it
That pf I picked up is pretty rough in person, but you are committed buddy

He doesn't need a pinsound board, just an MP3 trigger board...$50ish

Boom! Crickets at your finger tips

I didn't know about the crickets. Those things are annoying. Thankfully I know a voice actress that does a respectable cricket impersonation.
Those crickets are iconic for this game though. Especially when your doing good and they are chirping like crazy...makes it intense!

better not be that one I quoted for someone else about 4 weeks ago. That one was going to be costly.

nope, the one you looked at online before I pulled the trigger. Appears workable for you, but scary to me
That is an incredible restoration project. Absolutely fantastic.
You will have a one-of-a-kind pinball that you will never part from.
I love your precision of details and the treatment on the metal parts.
I have restored three Bally pinballs completely, but this is beyond restoration: You are re-inventing the Frontier.
Kudos.
Yves
Quoted from Frax:Why do I feel like the cabinet art alone costs what a HEP restore would? :\
You're probably right... He needs Lexan protection on that sucker
Quoted from Whysnow:Yup
Neo is gonna make it purdy again. I am gonna pay Neo a bunch of money to make it purdy.
Hi !! do you remember me ?? it was you who bought the frontier playfield ??
I am about to start a cabinet repaint. Were you happy with that PCL primer? will a quart be enough for two coats in and out? What type of air sprayer do you have? and lastly what sort of paint did you use for the black top coat?
The PCL primer worked well. Very easy to apply and sanded really well. Zero delmanination. No matter how hard you try to make the first coat the last coat, it won't happen. The first coat exposes the low and high spots. Plan on multiple coats and buy a gallon.
The spray gun is a Sata.
For paint, I prefer the auto air product line from Creatix.
Quoted from Captive_Ball:Crickets
Your not kidding. Terry took a job in LA and has been commuting back and forth for three weeks. When he gets home he hates his profession and swears LA traffic will be the death of him. Needless to say, he hasn't touched frontier.
Unfortunately, the project is at a standstill as I really can't do anymore until I get the cabinet back. I haven't checked with him today but last night was suppose to complete the LA project. If so, frontier begins again tomorrow assuming he is up for it.
This next week I am trying a new way of making plastics and hopefully will have some feedback. Whether it turns out to be a success or failure I will post the results here. Always fun to try new things on these projects.

Is this the one we talked about or are you trying something different?
Good news Frontier fans. Official word from Terry is he currently working on the art. It was a long hiatus but it will be worth the wait. I will be taking some pics throughout the day today and of course posting them here.
Also, I will be posting some pics today of my attempts at making plastics.

From to to
Looking forward to more pictures....thanks for the update
So five different experiments with making plastics.
Here is the original:
image_(resized).jpeg
1. Water slide decals. Printed both clear and white decals. Very difficult to work with and very time consuming. I would say impossible to align the images perfectly and not damage the decals.
image_(resized).jpeg
2. Photo paper. Easy to print and stick. Looks great in natural light but color saturation is poor when back lit.
image_(resized).jpeg
3. Photo paper designed for back lighting with an adhesive laminate that is optically clear. Saturation is still a problem but better than regular photon paper.
image_(resized).jpeg
4. Clear water slide decal with photo paper backing. Not easy to align and will be very difficult to adhere the photo paper to the decal reliably. (Sorry, had to use a different plastic).
image_(resized).jpeg
5. Clear water slide decal with a non printed decal backing. Awful. Completely washed out.

So my conclusion is that non of the above work for my taste. I have two more experiments to run and will report back.
Quoted from jwilson:Try the waterslide decal but airbrushing the white.
Interesting idea. I think it would be worth a shot.
Quoted from Mbecker:Holy cow that is beyond amazing!! Quite an upgrade from the stock cab - ha!
Quoted from Captive_Ball:Wow So badass
Thanks for the compliments. It was exciting to see it all together.
Quoted from swinks:wow, what amazing work, will be watching your progress.
and glad you liked the shrouds....
Thanks for the helpful emails back and forth. Getting closer to installing them.
Sweet, that is truly stunning.
Now you'll never settle for anything less moving forward and you set that bar pretty high
