Hello Everyone!

Let me premise by saying I have no clue when it comes to em's. I have worked on newer solid state machines.

At work we have the Freedom EM pinball. (I just started the job. My trainer quit so I'm on my own and learn as I go).
Anyways the game would credit up but not launch the ball. I looked at another Bally machine and found the relay for the ball launch coil. I did put my meter on the two tabs of the leaf switch on the credit button to see what kind of voltage flows through it to activate the coil but it just read 0v. So on the Freesom I pushed the metal plate to activate the relay and see if it would do anything. It didn't do anything and now it won't credit it up. It's been set to freeplay. I've been reading everything on this site regarding this machine and the pinrepair site to try and understand how things operate. I've checked all the coils and they all checkout with the right resistance. I've been tracing wires to see if one may have broken. So far all the wires I checked all tone out. I'm at a total loss on how to proceed. Any advice/tips/pointers would be very greatly appreciated!

Did you verify all the fuses are good?

The Bally Freedom manual has the startup sequence starting on page 2. How far is it getting?

I will recheck the fuses tomorrow. I do have 50v at the coils. I read the startup sequence and it doesn't do any of that. Only the lights on the playfield and backbox are on.

Fuses are good. No startup movement at all.

Check to make sure the switch(es) from the coin drops on the front door are not closed - they should be open until a coin drops thru. If the switches are open, then power up the machine, and activate the coin relay and see what happens. Report back.

Ok so my manager popped his head in it. Saw that the 10A fuse for the 50v line was blown. I swear I tested it. So I replaced it now I have power again. The coin switch is normally open. So now I'm back to the orignal problem which is it won't launch the ball. I cleaned all the contacts on the outhole relay but it won't fire. I measured the resistance of the coil and I get 50 ohms. Now if I manually push on the plate to activate it the fuse blows. Ok when i coin it up the relay fires a few times in a row then stops. Lots of blue flashes.

Per Howard - how far does it go during start up per the manual? Have you downloaded the manual and looked at the schematics? Since its blowing a 10 amp fuse, you have a bad short somewhere associated with that fuse. Use the schematic to lood for likely culprits.

Have you had the apron off yet? Inspect outhole coil for mounting shorts, burnt coil, and if it just replaced check that there isn’t a diode soldered across it.

Billc479 it goes through the whole startup sequence minus launching the ball. Yeah i just downloaded it. I will study it tonight.

@pinballdevah. I haven't pulled it out. I've just been working with the play field propped up. I will pull it out tomorrow and look it over in detail.

Inspect and diagnose this circuit with Alligator clip jumper wires
