How bad is this battery damage? Game has lights only and the green light is on on this board but nothing else.

Grab some side cutters and clip off those NiCad batteries now! Regardless of the next step, this needs to be done first.

#3 7 years ago

Cut them off now !!

Woah.. how are there 3 batteries on the board? I've never seen that before, kinda cool and 3x the trouble

Not that bad but I can say your 5101 and socket are toast. A little cleaning and a acid damage repair kit from GPE should get it working.

Oh I got them off the second after I snapped these pics.

Sorry if a dumb question but what do you mean by 5101 and sucket?

They are off.

The 5101 chip is that black chip in the green socket. It looks OK from above but the caustic from the NiCad batteries has probably made its way into that area and corroded the legs of the socket. The corrosion damage kits usually have a replacement socket along with most of the other components that are damaged in these scenarios.

Ahh ok I see. Thank you.

Sorry it's socket not sucket. Typo on my damn I phone. Can't see what I'm typing half the time.

Now that you've removed the batteries, post some pics of the area again so we can see what's happened to the traces that were running underneath the batteries. Also if there's any corrosion on the back of the board, some pics of those too.
