Can anyone explain this odd post at the gate and why it is there? One photo shows the post removed and the gate dogleg resting on the post for the gate. Then the other photo shows the post installed and the gate resting on this 'extra' post. The photo of the post removed is my machine. The photo with the post and rubber setup is from another Pinside post.

What bothers me is the way the ball had a tendency to bounce back into the scoring lanes if it hits the extra post when making the skill shot. It appears to be factory from other photos I have looked at.

Humm, Your right, Looks like a post W/out a rubber ring. possibly so the gate wire hits plastic instead of rubber. Where is the #6 guide rail in the lower photo? Will it fit with that upper post installed? No matter what, the 1-1/2" rubber ring needs to come off.

Mine has regular post rings on each post under those ball gates. And no ring on the extra post under the wire.

I agree, each post gets an individual ring. The top photo is my machine, the bottom photo was copied from another thread in Pinside.

What I don't like is the bounciness of the gate / post assembly. It causes the ball to bounce back into the skill shot lane or just below where the playfield cut and metal bracket meet. The ball doesn't get stuck, it just slops around all over.

The post belongs there, just not sure why.

My Fireball is missing the post in question, just like the OP's game.
p.s. my game is a German edition.

My game has 2 posts.
The game had a plastic backglass in it when I bought it.
I have read that might make it a re-import (German)?

I left the post there. Not a big fan out the ball bounce back into the lanes.

Played a few test games tonight. Very happy.

Quoted from wolftownjeff:

re-import (German)

Most all German Fireballs have PF and BG with German text (Silkscreened onto PF/BG)
