I have an El Toro that is basically done, but found an odd problem that I can't figure out. Hoping someone can help shed some light on the problem.

When the special is lit and collected the game restarts. When the the left roll-over switch is activated the COIN relay engages, which in returns pulls the RESET relay. I'm not seeing what the CREDIT STEP UP SOL and COIN relay have in common.

Here's the link to the schematic.

Does the Coin relay fire if you get a high score replay too?

Either way, 2nd and 3rd Coin Chute relay switches connect to the Credit Unit step up solenoid which puts you in the neighborhood of the Coin relay I imagine. I'd have a close look at the Coin, 2nd and 3rd Coin Chute relays for a short. Try moving the 2nd Coin Chute adjust jones plug to both positions to see if that changes anything. Also, there may be unused wires (just to the left of the Coin relay in the schematic) that might be shorting to something.

If you're lucky you can probe this with a meter when the game is unplugged. Clip one probe to either side of the the Credit Unit Limit switch (assuming it's closed) and clip the other probe to the Coin relay solder lug (grey wire). If you get a short (1 ohm or less) you can then poke around and/or change jones plugs to see what might affect the short.

Thanks, Mark. You were spot on. The high score special adjustment plug (and the 2nd coin chute ) was plugged into the 3rd coin chute adjustment plug. Moved those to the correct spot and special is now working correctly.

Troxel, I am working on an El Toro for a buddy and I am having similar issues.

Where are these plugs located and how do I tell if the right pins or connectors are connected up there?

The EL TORO lanes up at the top do not all light up the lower EL TORO letters and you can never get to the ext6ra ball or Special.

Also, even though the Match is set to ON, that is also not working.

Thanks for any help,

If not labelled, compare wire colors on the schematic https://www.ipdb.org/files/772/Bally_1972_El_Toro_Schematic_Diagram_continuous.pdf

If the E rollover doesn't trip the E Trip relay, note that this is a 3 blade switch, and Inspect and diagnose this circuit with Alligator clip jumper wires
