Hello everyone. I've just recieved a blackbelt. Close inspection, reveals a few interesting things. If anyone out there could provide some confirmation, or pictures of the main mpu board / PSU board should look like regarding connectors.

Mine has had a few "mods". And trying to clarify. I've attached a few pics.

First / last one. I suspect there was a straight molex connector, which became toast. Does anyone have a pic of the original wire connections. Currently, a length of speaker wire (Pair) is wire nutted to five wires. Three blue, and two red.

Second pic is a burnt up molex connector. Brown wire has been wire nutted. Was it originally going to the molex??

And main board. I had to remove the remains of 7 SCRs.

The lower left flipper, and wiring around it.. is a burnt mess looks like high voltage, bad soldering, and a lot of heat did extensive damage.

All fun huh??!

Long shot, if anyone has a used 6803 main board (I know.. they are exceptionally hard to find in good working order), I'm interested.

Thanks for any help advice

Jaime

Resolved the connector issue. Looked at a Motordome for reference.

Ok, a few more headaches. Lower left flipper area. Looks like a few wires have been modified. Does anyone know why the kickout coil has a different set of wires? (possibly a lazy replacement with another coil, and didn't wan't to to solder?).

And then there is this white purple wire, that from the schematic, Tech sheet, and everything else I have, shows as unlisted. Does anyone know where this goes, or have a pic of the same area on another blackbelt.

And if anyone is mad enough to sell me a spare mpu6803 board, let me know. I'm at a loss why this board, just seems to be a dead end in replacements or repair. It's early days, and I'm determined to give it a go. Simply because we have to.

Anyway..thanks for any help

Djsolzs!!,

Thank you, these pics do help a lot. I do have the manual, and the back box map from Marco specialities. However, trying to pick through the mods other people have done, is a minefield.

The MPU board has had all the visible damage removed. Burnt wiring will be replaced on the looms, and all coils checked, before I even power it up.

My priority is to protect the MPU from any further damage. They are hard to find. Swemmer electronics have them in stock. I'll buy one, but I could end up with 2 fried boards, if I'm not 100% sure everything has been fixed.

If you could determine or confirm where the thicker white / purple wire lands close to the lower left flipper, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you for all your help

Djsolzs, If you do have pics, that would be appreciated. I’ve cleaned some of the mess of the lower left flipper, and ordering parts for a complete replacement of both lower flippers. I’ll take pics of what I have left hanging around in that area.

If you have any questions of any mods found on your machine, I’m more than happy to pass on any advice help that I have found as well.

Thanks

Little problems are being worked out. I could buy a new PSU board, but where is the fun in that?

The power cable to the machine, lacked a ground pin. Which may have caused further issues. Anyway, cut a long story short, does anyone know where to buy a rebuild kit for a 6803 PSU, including the molex connectors (both sides).

And finally (for this post anyway). I cleaned up the mess of the lower flipper wiring. However, there was a long red/ black wire, that was cut / spliced. Knowing that looms are made to length, I'm curious to know where this wire actually lands or splits to.

Still have no idea where the white / purple (or violet) wire connects to.

Thanks

Jaime

Thank you!!!. Looks like that white / violet wire may go to a knocker??. However..from the print it says “strobe 5”. What’s going on with that orange wire nut / double brown wire combo??. I’ll have a look at mine, see if there is any clues to help you.

The white / violet wire goes back to a connector it’s the first wire on the left of J4?., on the MPU

The red/black wire did have a solder joint and close to that 1A fuse..so that lands there. Any clues to the kick out coil wire colours?

The only diagrams I have are the ones from the IPDB website. There is a high res version, but my printer only handles A4 paper, and A3 is needed. Maybe a quiet day at work, may change that!!

Any help, just ask..

Wow, and I thought I had a few issues. I'll look at each of your pics, and try and track down the wiring for each problem. That long yellow wire seems to be a supply wire from the upper to the lower flippers, but that's just looking briefly at pics.

One thing I'm lacking is a computer controlled bulb for the credit lamp on the apron. There's nothing there. And a missing knocker coil assembly.

Can't really see if that double brown wire with the orange nut, has a connection back to a flipper coil. Is that correct??

Little by little..

First question. Originally there was a mess of wires. A link wire was soldered one side of this 1A fuse. The other end was soldered to 3rd (if looking left to right) tab of the lower left flipper coil.

Then the same tab had another link wire, that jumped to the same (3rd) tab on the lower right flipper coil.

Can these wiring connections be confirmed?

Secondly. Kick out coil.

I'm assuming that the red / black wire is a common for some coils. When I first opened the machine, there was a mess of chopped and resoldered lengths of red / black wire.

The wire landed on a tab for this 1A fuse, and then continued, to nothing. Would this wire be common to kickout coil, knocker coil, both or neither?

And still wondering where this white and violet wire lands. If it connects to the knocker coil, then no big deal. It's referred to as strobe 5. Which, I may not understand the full terminology for that. So I'd rather leave it disconnected

Thanks for any help

Ok.. after much verbal intimidation, soldering, a good head wind, and a prayer.. it fires up.

No left flippers
No play field solenoids.
Right displays are intermittent. Probably a connection issue
A sh*t ton of bulbs out. That's a minor detail

I'm still.. still.. still.. trying to determine the following:

Kick out coil, wire colours.
Where that white/violet and red/ black wire goes to.

Ok, now that I have a lot of time on my hands..who doesn't?? The pinball is up and running, and there's lots of tiny things wrong with it, mainly switch adjustments, bulb holders etc.

A quick question regarding the groups of 3 flash lamps. I took out 555 bulbs originally, and replaced with 555's. They work, but quickly burn out. Is this part of the fun of early flash lamp circuits?..should they be 12v bulbs..and finally, is there a comet pinball bulb that may work just as good?

I'm looking at Q18-19-20 on the main board. They have been replaced with TIP122, which is a more robust spec than the original SE9302. Would this change be an issue?.

Thanks again for any help

Jaime
