I'm working to finish up a baby pacman. I have the game almost 100 percent but still have a persistent issue with the sound. It seems to only play part of the sounds. Plus it seems to jump out of program. Like the game is over and keeps going but sound thinks it's still in the old game. Ideas?

Ok so when I push the cab switch for the sound test I get nothing. When I push the sound test on the Vidiot it makes a single tone and the light flashes 3 times. I have recapped the board. I didn't think this would make a difference but I'm sure it didn't hurt as some caps were bulged. The volume pot is kinda scratchy but that does not explain the partial sound and it not starting or starting correctly. Issue with MPU dip switches? This is a new NVRAM mpu set up for baby pack. But maybe in dip settings?

Thank you. I'll swap it for a new one. Yes I get the start up tune. But i only get like half the game sounds. Then it seems to jump out of the sound program. Ie game is over but it just keeps playing the background music

I changed the U7 no change. I have repined all the mpu and most of the vidiot connectors.
There is no sound on any playfield switch hit. Game make the sound when I get ate. But other than that it plays intro tune over and over. Yes when I press vidiot sound test I get the ray gun sound and two flashes.

Quoted from jj44114:

I think the switch data inputs to the 6803 on pins 9-12. Step 1: Best to use a logic probe to see if there is activity on these pins as switches are closed.

Thanks jj44114! I'll grab the probably and see what I got going on there. But I think everything seems to score ok. I have not repined the connectors from the playfield to the sdb.

Ok. So i checked the pins 9-12 on the 6803 at Vidiot U27. On pin 9 i have 5v but no signal on the logic probe. On pin 10 i seem to have nothing. No voltage or signal. Pin 11 and 12 show low.

Quoted from ForceFlow:

Have you verified the data on the ROMs/EPROMs and/or recently replaced them? On rare occasions, a bad ROM can potentially pass a ROM check and cause wacky behavior. I'd look at those before you start chasing things on the board and desolder components.

I have not verified them or replaced them. Litteraly everything works but the sound. When in game play the switch hit make sounds but the game just plays the intro tune over and over. No waca waca waca when the gane goes back to the vidieo. When in the pinball mode it makes the tick tock but does not stop when game is over just keeps playing in attract. Push the game button and back to intro tune

Yes i did originally. I think i couldnt hear them where i had the game. Game moved to my new shop and now i can hear. Ok so yes all game sounds work except the 500 switch fruits and the spinners. They make the game start the intro tune again. No i dont have coin door sound test. It goes to sound test but no sound. Just when pressed on vidiot.

I just checked all the wires on the connectors to make sure they are all in the correct position. They are.

I down the volume and played several games last night. Today i have no sound at all. None on sound test when i press the button. Light still blinks twice tho. Yes i turned the volume back up.

No sound looks like is just the pot. Have to see if i have or need to order. I dont have the 6803 or the 74ls348n in my parts supply. I will add them to my gpe order just incase.

New u6 came today soni changed it out to rule that out. It did not change anything. Changed the pot for Rt5 volume issue is fixed. I guess i change the 6803 when the new ones arrive??

Well i finally got thte new 6803p. I canged out the sound processor and no change. I also have limited the problem to the Vidiot by swapping mine with a good vidiot and problem followed the vidiot. So... ForceFlow suguested new sound roms? I also need to get a sound rom for my Tri Zone. So i guess i can see if someone can burn both for me. Is there anything else i am missing it could be here. Seems it must be limited to sound side of vidiot

A good visual inspection with good light and a new more powerful mag glass. Looks like someone in the past dropped something on this board and damaged those two traces.
