I have a Harlem Globetrotters that was working fine but now I have a problem with the sound board. It sounds like the sustain pot is cranked up all the way - during game play all of the sounds run together, and the final sound continues indefinitely. Adjusting the sustain pot up or down will change the volume slightly but otherwise has no effect. I tried replacing the sustain pot (even though it tested okay), no difference. The board had all of its caps replaced a few months ago. Any ideas where to look next? Thanks!!

Quoted from cody_chunn:

Was any service done to the game before the problem?

Nothing. I did some work to the sound board a few weeks ago (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bally-static-white-noise#post-4364832) but everything had been working perfectly since then.

Quoted from barakandl:

there was a post from a couple weeks ago about a similar problem. I think the 86L93 chip was bad in that case. You might want to read that thread.

I did a search before I posted, not sure how I missed that one. 86L93 makes sense. I'll add one to my next parts order and see if that fixes it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Again.

Finally tracked the problem down, it was a bad 555 timer IC at U7. Actually the chip wasn't bad, just had some of that black corrosion on the legs that must have somehow shorted a couple of its pins together. After cleaning off the black crud it's working fine again.
